The first hit made it look suspicious, but the second time confirmed it! You can see the right leg of the catcher brace for impact as she leaned in towards the oncoming runner and throws her elbow out. If this occurred in a boys sporting event there would’ve been a brawl.
Embarrassingly intentional. She should have been pulled and taken off the team. She obviously couldn't handle losing and decided to be take her frustrations out on the players. Thankfully, Needville lost. They didn't deserve to win with this sort of unsportsmanlike conduct.
she done this more than once i can tell you that and if there wasn't any up roar over it the school wouldn't of done crap the administrator is a crap as well. i talk to him through e-mail twice saying this was something unlike her... bs.... and secondly she was taught to do it thirdly if i could i would of mach right down and spoke to him face to face ... he told me to come down....
@@nazihaalfrid was the whole teamns fault? no did they coachs and managers stop it no. they didn't do anything till got into media and that was saving face vaule nothing would of happen if media didn't report on it. the 3-4 for umpires clearly saw it and had no call which he should of called which tells me these umpire should be ratted out and not every get another game. they allowed such nonsense like this to happen so i blame all adults here and the catcher
The first time she did it, you can clearly see her looking over at the player before elbowing her. You can tell she's been doing that for a long time! The umpire has a lot of explaining to do.
Tony Miller Actually she was not blocking the plate because the runner had room to touch the plate and if she was blocking the plate the runner would have run into her so it can be called an obstruction on the catcher so there for the catcher was not blocking the plate, but you are right that there needs to be a play at the plate but she was not blocking it. Next time do your research.
+Rachel Schoch exactly it's so weird being a catcher because we are taught block the plate taught that your job is to to stop the runner from getting to the plate but then you also have to think about obstruction. It's a balancing act
That's a judgement call for the umpire. I can see where some might call (or at least warn the catcher of) obstruction. And actually in the 2nd occurrence, the runner wasn't able to touch home plate and had to come back to step on it. So that IS obstruction.
Tony Miller she has all rights in front of the base. She had the whole plate open to the runner. (As I would know considering I've been catching for 12 years)
as a catcher never should you take your anger out on other players, your teammates, or anyone. If you want to go that low to intentionally hurt the opposing team then there should be extreme consequences for your actions.
As a softball umpire with 30 years exp., a rookie umpire should have known what to do there (ejecion). The home plate umpire didn't even see the first flagrant act by the catcher. One of his duties is to see if the runner touched home plate. Then to let it happen again? inexcusable!
So we are all catchers including myself it’s not easy for me to tell if the first one was on purpose or if it truly was an accident but the second one was for sure on purpose in my eyes
The school superintendent finally did something after massive outcry. He vigorously defended her and her punishment was basically a slap on the wrist. If he made the punishment too severe, she would have stopped sleeping with him.
I have been a coach for many years and I would have taken her out of the game myself if I thought she did it on purpose. Catchers are to guard the plate not hit the runners!
@Glennda Bradley Well “coach” it looks like you need a refresher on the rule book! The catchers job(just like any other baseman’s job) is to be there to make a play at the plate, but nowhere in the rule book will it say the catcher’s job is to “guard” the plate!!! No player on defense(those playing the infield and outfield while the opposing team is at bat), should be anywhere along the baseline(blocking runners from gaining access to the bases), unless the ball is being thrown in their immediate direction so as to make a tagging play at or near the base!!! The players running the bases cannot step out of the “base line”(they have to maintain their run within certain limits of the lines around the bases!!! If a defending player is standing in the baseline; thereby, causing the runner to step out of the baseline as they are progressing around the bases, that runner can be called out for stepping out of the baseline, no physical tag needs to be made in such a situation!!!! In other words, if you don’t want run over by the train, get your ass off the tracks!!
That catcher is suffering from a very rare dis-order called the George Costanza syndrome. The symptoms are involuntary elbow movement at an opportune time.
Long time ago I was scoring and noticed the catcher standing 6 inches in front of the plate. The ball never even came her way. As I crossed the plate I raised my elbow to protect my ribs because if you're running full speed you can't tell what will happen in an instant. She gave me a mean look, but I said "If you don't have the ball, get the fuck off the plate."
if it was unintentional why did two girls go down. why does her elbow only goes back when a opposing player is next to her? she should be thrown out of competitive Sports for life otherwise we were teaching our kids that poor sportsmanship is okay
yeah, let's slow our roll a bit there. She was penalized, including losing a scholarship. That more than adequately fits the crime. But, just to see you tremble with tear of frustration, she went on to graduate high school as an All-State academic and All-State athlete, National Honor Society, went to Sam Houston (D-1) on full scholarship, was team Captain, and graduated with high honors.
That is the position I play catcher. If there isn't a play at home you get out of the way. And you let them go and step on home plate unless there's a play. I believe we're there at her emotion got the best of her and she threw elbows intentionally.
her emotion didn't get better of her that how she is Mel i get your given her the benfit of doubt however its well done and to well done for me to even support nonsense like that. let say my favorite team i like was red sox and catcher of the red sox did that to player.... and i was the umpire i am still going to properly call it as it needs to be called. and i am ejecting people. in youth ball its automatic ejection and runners are safe
Definitely intentional and if the umpire had been watching the runner touch the plate he would have seen this. I’m a softball umpire and one thing we are how can you handle a challenge of missing a base when your not watching them touch them.
She looked and saw the runner coming and stepped back into her path to give her the shoulder. That was 1000000% intentional. Coming from someone who played baseball for 20 years, I would of pulled and benched a player who played that way.
Even if you could excuse the first elbow as "accidental", which already stretches credulity to its breaking point, you definitely cannot defend or excuse the second one! She knew she got away with one and tried her luck again, and got away with one again
i understand that, as a catcher, using your arm to protect your ribs from an oncoming runner off 3rd is a tactic, but this is undeniably , intentionally harsh.
At one of my softball games, the ball was rolling to the catcher (the catcher on my team), when it came to home plate ( by the catcher), the runner kicked the ball away from home plate and was STILL SAFE! Their empire was terrible anyway. They won by 2 but we really won cuz they pretty much cheated.
As a former umpire in girls softball, the catcher was not blocking the base path. She was standing there where she could do just what she did. She should have been ejected with the first occurrence. It's definitely a gentler society we live in as the girls of 45 years ago would've gotten to her before I could and she'd be on her way to the ER instead of the bench. She'd been coached how to do that and had probably done it before.
Finally someone with a brain... Why would you let someone plow into you intentionally when you're not even on top of the base.... It looked like she was tired of players running full speed into her and just braced for impact.. The elbow was just deflecting the intruder away after getting ran into..
When I was playing, which was some time ago, sometimes this kind of thing would happen. We were always taught by my coach "don't complain, don't say a word." The next time that player comes up to bat (in this instance being the catcher who threw the elbows), we'll solve the problem. Our solution? Head shots! That's right folks. One way or the other, when that catcher came up to bat, she was going to taste dirt. Period. End of conversation. Why? Because a dog is not going to change her bark. You have to pop it upside the head to get it's attention.
@@APT420 hahahahaha! Okay but throwing an elbow is not the way to handle it. When I was catching, I talked more junk than anybody else just to rattle the batter. That's as much a part of baseball (or fastpitch) as the bat, ball, and glove. And the response to that is if a player is chirping at you, chirp back. So I can absolutely imagine this catcher talking trash and the other team responding in kind. And umpires will generally leave that alone unless it gets ugly or violent. But when you take it to the violent level by throwing elbows like that, you have to go. I simply cannot imagine that catcher not being ejected.
There is no question of the fouls, if you watched the play!?? Obvious, deliberate, tantrum inspired hits by the catcher! You would have to be nuts to call either of her plays reasonable or you approve of cheating. The catcher should be suspended for at least one full season! The umpires should be fired!
It was obviously intentional because she didn't even ask the girl if she was ok and she did it a second time I mean she did it so hard both girls flew not even touching the plate
Lionel here in central California. I used to umpire high school softball and I would have ejected the catcher on the spot. Shame on the officials and that catcher's coach for not taking care of the matter. One would assume the coach condones that type of play if nothing was done. Here the safety of the kids is first and foremost. I hope the two young ladies were okay. Just saying...
Coached High School and Jr College Softball, the catcher was on TOP of the plate when there was not a play happening there. The runner had no where to go to touch the plate. My question is, if the runner slides taking out the catcher, would they have been penalized?
I played catcher for a men's softball team, i never blocked the plate or threw elbows. If i didn't have the ball yet, i was close to the plate but did not impede the runner. When i had the ball i was defending that plate as if it was a defenseless child. Man did I get bulldozed a bunch. But luckily, I never coughed up the ball.
The rule Sate that if the catcher did not have a ball she ca not be in the way of base line and was those two different batters hits or just one batters hit so those women could in fact could knock her down in my special olympics most every single person is blocking the hole plate and when I run to home plate I push the catcher and we only wear helmet and catcher only wear helmet and he did not have a ball in his hand and it is unify special olympics slow softball so if the runner comes into home catcher can not be in base line or running line both batters safe and catcher is ejected from the game and why the umpires who was half way up the third base line did not look back to home and see the catcher?
Both the catcher and the ump should have both been suspended for the rest of the season, maybe even not let the ump officiate any more games...I mean how can you not call this, he was staring at the play the first time and then allowed it to happen again and did nothing to protect the player from a horrible catcher...that is borderline criminal conduct, regardless if it happened in the game...it was intentional, and designed to cause harm.
Wow... that's pretty poor form for an umpire to turn a blind-eye to that. The umpire saw the first elbow happen then double-taked at it like, "did I really just see that?!" The catcher should've been ejected twice...
Shouldn't even be a question. Stevie Wonder could have seen this, and yet some people think it was accidental. Well,I would've "accidentally" taken her out if I were the next runner. 😡
Yep definitely intentional. That’s for sure not a sudden movement or elbow twitch. You can see she’s looking over the runner for the right time to throw the elbow.
International, there was no ball to played and the runner was in the base line so the plate has to be cleared for the runner, unless the catcher was playing on the ball.
Not only did she do it twice, but she did it while standing on the chalkline, blocking the plate and her elbow extended once the runner came in contact with her. How is “was this intentional” even a question?
The girls standing at the plate should have kicked her ass. You stand up for your teammates. Think they were scared. She was taller than them. But screw that. You take her out ladies.
They need to start disqualifying teams for intentional fouls like that. That is the only way to stop it, especially with how self-centered and entitled the kids are today. She should've been suspended from school as well and not allowed on any sports teams for 1 year.
My girls would not put up with that, she would have been heading to the dentist office for that crap for sure.. defend yourself at all times. She needs her ass whooped!
I am glad Huffman Harvested that girls tears. Her elbow is her crying as Huffman scores and each score is a harvested tear from that catcher. She should have been warned the first time if she wasn't already and then the last time she should have been ejected.
Good thing I wasn't the opposing coach, there would have been an impromptu team meeting about how to get to home plate with the catcher standing there....just saying....
Thus why there is so many problems in sports. These umpires failed the game miserably....Warning should have been issued after the first collision and they need to explain to the coach and catcher they cannot impede a runners ability to advance without a play or ball.. The second time should have been an ejection...The opposing team is lucky there were no injuries from the sucker punch which is basically what she did.
I'm an umpire.. never done softball before but if I saw that happen as clearly as that umpire did, I would've tossed her first time. I've also never ejected anyone in 6 my years
for al my years i have umpire i had my first ejection in softball for 11-12 year old girl collide on purprose with catcher i couldn't tell if she did at second base it was close... so i was watching her at home. called her out told her coach she canot do that she out of here. i threw her out but i didn't make a secne i did tell score keeper on the home side that she was ejected and will not be coming back out i did tell the coach she was ejected. though i have no clue where her parents were so in that case she ok to stay in the dugout
Intentional dirty play by a classless player. Her parents, coaches and teammates should be ashamed of those bully tactics. I hope no coach recruited her.
She was academic all-state. National Honor Society. She got a full ride to Sam Houston State, where she was captain of the softball team, graduated with high honors. As much as it hurts your feelers, this stupidity didn't destroy her life.
Absolutely intentional! Should have been ejected for either one. Umpires equally to blame. How can they miss both of these incidents. One if them had to be responsible for home plate!
Most definitely intentional both times. In the first instance the umpires are rotating and missed it. Not something one would expect so that missed malicious contact can be forgiven. However the second time the HP ump should have seen it. Immediately call 'TIME!'. This will kill the play. Eject the catcher and award bases. I would be generous with my base awards since the catcher brought this on herself.
It looks like the base runners are ready to throw a shoulder. So, I wouldn’t say the catcher is just supposed to stand there and take it. If you’re about to check someone you better be ready for them to check you back they just got demolished
First one was not intentional at 033 the runner was starting to lean in to make contact with catcher. Second one was retaliation for the first runner thinking she was going to take out the catcher. Both times catcher was out of base line.
That's obviously intentional, unacceptable, and she should be removed from the game. It's a game. Of course, normally u see runners blatantly running over the catcher to score runs and plenty of ppl defend that and shouldn't. Both are unacceptable. It's amazing to me that the level of anger, win at all costs, not caring about other ppl is everything in society. It's even all over girls sports, not just guys in my opinion. Thx.
First off anyone that says "it was accidental" needs to have their head examined. Freeze at 0:32 and there is no question that this is intentional. The Catcher's eyes are looking at the runner, not at the ball. she even braces her body before contact then swings her hips open as contact was made. If you don't possess the ball vacate the painted base line completely, stand in front of the plate (toward the mound, not towards 3rd), and don't go towards the line until you have the ball or are actively retrieving the ball. This girl needs a lesson in sportsmanship. I hope nobody helps her if/when she ever got railroaded at the plate.
Then watch between 1:06-1:08. Why did she step in foul territory then back towards where she was originally. The is NO QUESTION to what her intent was. She intended to knock someone out and get a cheap out.
The audio says she did it again. It was intentional. She was not about to catch the ball and the fact she moved her glove arm in the opposite direction you'd move to do so says to me it was on purpose. As an umpire I never tolerated the idea or action of hurting another player. In this case the catcher would be tossed.
