I think your best bet for the exhaust is electronic cutouts. That way you can keep it chill most of the time but just run open pipes when you want to get rowdy
i have a gs430 with a muffler delete and has enough growl for it only having 300 hp it doesn’t drone either bc it still has the resonators. i’ve heard them with a resonator delete and they’re ridiculously loud.
One of the better OEM HID projectors, IIRC, they were one of the widest beam patterns ever. + nice bulbs from Osram/Phillips, you'll be lighting up the entire 401 across 8+ lanes.
@@fmar.8311 I mean most people have moved onto superior LED upgrades now but back when HID retrofits were still a thing the Lexus projectors were a popular relatively inexpensive mod.
Best way to get power out of that motor: Supercharger/Turbo, 8-9 psi, headers, hi flow exhaust, intake. as for the exhaust, hi flow cats and mufflers will do ya fine. wont be too loud until you step on it. dont leave any stock parts in, its pretty restrictive. Just be wise with your boost as the 3UZ-FE rods are thin and cant take too much. Cheers from a LS400 owner
Okay? I say so because the factory ones are like $40 each & dont out a whole lot of light. $40 each vs $15 per pair.... was just suggesting a cheap way of fixing a broken piece
My 98 ls400 has a few weird electrical things as well, steering column being the most annoying. 190k... but it drives like it has half that, doesn’t burn a drop of oil, shifts perfectly and is butter to drive. Best built car I’ve ever owned, by far.
@@duftmand Actually mines a 96, blur together. Plastic gears look fine, it just incorrectly sets itself to stay up and the down button doesn't always work.
@@ricepony33 sets itself to stay up? What do you mean exactly? I know the 98 has both a tilt and a telescopic motor in the column. They’re fairly expensive to replace, but the issue could be a buildup of carbon inside the motor itself, since it won’t go down. My telescopic motor didn’t work, so we took it apart and cleaned out the carbon, now it works fine. If you’re handy it should fairly straight forward to take it out and pry it open carefully, or even just take it out and rest if the down function even works
@@duftmand it’s just tilted at it’s highest position, it moves to that position everytime you turn the car off. Problem is that it doesn’t return unless you manually do it. I’ll pull it apart again and see, might disconnect it once I have it set.
the thing will need a MAF clean or a new one regardless, its a wear item on these my 2002 toyota celsior with 100 000km maf burnt out, tried to clean it and it made the check engine light go away but fuel consumption was still high, had to buy a new one
When I had my 06, I went through a few systems: 5zigen fireball axle back, vibrant mufflers and a simple muffler delete. All three sounded great but honestly the best option is just a muffler delete. Once you start deleting the resonators it begins to sound more tinny. But since you guys have mentioned vibrant already then it will sound amazing.
For 6k. You got a Stealll. Especially with the interior being in amazing condition, no rips or dirty/stained spots. I bought my black 04 ls430 for 6700 with black interior and front seats are a bit worn. But it’s definitely clean but not as clean as this one😭.
Its a funny joke definitely got me smiling lol. But clearly its been planted there since later he admitted he's been driving the car for a month now. Had he just bought it and just got into it immediately I could have believe it
A good, cheap exhaust option is to remove the rear mufflers. It will give it a nice growl, yet keep it tame when you want it to be. Also you can replace the lock actuator motor for very cheap with a d-shaft motor. Looking forward to seeing the progress on the LS430!
I daily-drive an '04 LS430 and it's by far the most reliable, comfortable, and quietest daily-driver I've had. Other than not being able to turn-off the stability control and play around in the winter, I genuinely love my LS430. It is virtually without fault and is an unbelievable tank. The door actuators are easy to replace and they cost about $6 per door; cheap and easy fix.
Honestly I'm way more interested in this one than the M5. Nothing against the M5 here, but this one is far more of a novelty to me. I want to see this one transformed into a grand tourer, that can take the family to the zoo in comfort, but give a mountain road a respectable run as well.
ls430 owner here. The best sound is with deleting the mufflers and welding in exhaust tips to replace. You'll get a deep rumble but not droning. Removing the resonators doesn't give much sound.
I have a similar problem with my outback, my key fob is broken (no lock button) if I lock it at the door and close it the alarm activates, and for some strange reason 30 seconds later the alarm goes off, with DUAL HELLA HORNS !!! so I lock it with a key and unlock with fob LoL
My 2000 LS430 has no electrical gremlins, just a lazy passenger window. No way would I unmuffle the sound either, that is almost heresy! oh, and thanks for shielding us from the overwhelming stench of what was in the diaper. All our poor lily livered eyes would not have been able to handle it!
This is what I did to make my LS430 sound great. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3fZ4atFNgEE.html. I also used Vibrant ultra quiet mufflers in place of the stock rear mufflers.
when the fuck did these cars become so expensive? a few months ago i saw them going for 2500-4k all day. now im seeing people list them for 6-8k. thats insane.
Seriously... LEMON... Because someone vinyl wrapped parts, 15year old paint is faded and plasti- dipped... Seriously... LEMON?!? THATS STRAIGHT CLICKBAIT..... STOP IT
delete the cats and the mufflers. add a nice mufflers on the end with some 4" tips will sound really good. (leave the resonators, or just make a full exhaust with nice quality resonators)
@@danielcastaneda7801 If I was to do a custom exhaust on my car, I would do headers, factory cats ( just port the openings), a smooth Y pipe with 2 1/4" mandrel bent pipes going into a single 3" resonator. Then go into the stock mufflers ( even though they are slightly restrictive). The bottle neck is the horrible factory manifolds and restrictive intermediate Y pipe.
13:47. There’s that USELESS word again. “Sporty”. So what you REALLY want to do is ruin the luxury and bring the gawd awful noise decibels closer to a ford pinto with a leaky exhaust. WHAT A WAY TO RUIN THIS CAR!!!!!!!!! Sport is just another word for “Sh!tty”
I had a 99 LS400 before, and trust me, even cutting off the rear mufflers (I did before doing a custom full exhaust at Hot Rod Scott’s.. I can send you guys the vid from their insta!), that barely gave the car any sound. You could barely tell from inside at all. My setup on my LS was two 2.5” pipes off the manifolds, Y-Pipe into a single exit 3” with 1 Magnaflow muffler. 3rd cat was deleted, factory pre-cats were still there. Sounded absolutely fantastic. No drone on the highway either at all. Muffler was big enough that cruising around town everything was mellow, with a nice tone, but would perk up the right amount getting on throttle.
Not hear to be politically correct. Plastic dip wheels is " rice tuner " as sh!t. Plastic dip over " industrial hammer tone rattle can paint " is just plain ghetto @/F. Im guessing it was originally purchased by an elderly ( Florida retiree ) aka poligrip & depends diaper stashed. Florida has a long history of rust buckets & hurricane damaged salvage rebuilt cars. 2nd owner most likely did all of the diy ghetto work. Im surprised brake calipers weren't rattled can fluorescent neon. Looking at the rest of the car, you might have a diamond in the rough. Can't wait for the 19s, suspension, supercharger.
I guess I don't see how this is considered a "Lemon LS430" because of a 20$ door actuator and peeling factory wheels. The door actuators were a common issue on most of the Lexus lineup from the late 90's through mid 2000's. That one driver side door actuator replaced and a good detail (strip & repaint the rims) and that car is solid.
K&N is not really a good air filter. I used them for decades and still use thier oil filters, but most don't put enough oil on the K&N cloth media. Once dirty, they start to filter well, but THEN FLOW LESS THAN a high quality large capacity paper filter. Paper passes less dirt.
I own a 2005 LS430 and I do not understand buying a black car with the Cashmere color leather. My car is black with black leather. I have the rear window tinted and the wheels are the factory wheels like yours but are chromed. Too bad the previous owner didnt buy the Mark Levison stereo and the GPS package. The pass through in the back is fir your skies. Lexus never had a fridge option.
I have an '05 LS430 with 98k miles with no electrical issues yet. Lock actuators, tilt steering motor, mirror motors are known issues with the LS430. You can rebuild the door actuators with a motor off of amazon. I pulled the tilt fuse to preserve my motor. I also turned off the folding mirrors. My lock actuators have held up so far.
I'm really hoping you guys Twin turbo this car. I have a GS430 and this would basically be what I want to do long term. I have a twin turbo SC400 as well. The exhaust is custom piece. Its basically a 3 inch exhaust in one Borla resonator and twin 2.5 inch out to vibrant mufflers with 3 inch tips.
This project is super exciting for me. I've had two LS430's and am looking forward to my next one. I would love to see a post mortem after the competition on what you could have done differently and what you wish you had done differently.
Man, this series dropped at about the time I’ve been considering a vehicle like this. I hadn’t even thought about using a Terminator supercharger, aka the Eaton M90. Before, the only car that had been seriously on my list was importing an Aristo. Maybe I should look into the Celsior/LS now too.
Was considering getting a LS soon my self. Talked my buddy into selling me his CL500 though. Pretty stoked to pick it up soon and get into that Mercedes V8
Why do all of these car reviewers/gearheads promote Continental tires? Man, I'm sorry.. I really don't care about your Continental tires. I think i'm pretty fine with my Pirelli's
The K&N sticker is enough to show you that any problems aren’t the cars fault. The previous owner took horrible care. U can’t draw blanket conclusions about the LS 430 in general just because you bought yours from the snot nose teenager that owned it before you.
I have ls 400 1998 I deleted all exhaust resonators and kept the stock muffler and it sounds really good and not very loud do it and u will thank me ... and about the m5 .... u cant win - i tried everything
The Mercedes S class(W126) of the 1980's and early 90's had the sun visor over the rear view mirror that this guy lost his shit over. Mercedes also had adjustable head rests in the 80's.
so...the issue is basically worn brakes, bad suspension (every old car basically), and some electrical issues.. for a 15 year old car? how is that not the most reliable car ever? that is a fantasy in BMW land :D oh and that leather is prob worth more than 6k after it's cleaned lol
Proud owner of a 04 ultra ls430 can't wait too see what you do with this. There is a smart button underneath the steering wheel for you to activate the smart key functions. Also don't forget the lexus has two filters one in the glove box.✌🏾Ultra
I used to work at a busy Lexus dealership, we would get these, beat to shit, every so often. The majority of Lexus owners that go to Lexus dealerships for service usually treat their cars like ashtrays or shitboxes. Odd. Every so often there would be a car that’s just flawless, I miss those
just lock the driver side door manually with your hand flip the manual switch inside the car and then activate the key fob....you don't need to lock the door with the key!!!
Look into FigsEngineering for alignments parts. They've got a bunch of stuff for correcting geometry on this car. For the LS series though, its probably more for the vip look, rather than track performance... that would've been an IS series with the 2jz.
I bet those resonators are quiet enough without the mufflers and would probably sound better than the mufflers without the resonators. Certain local police forces have been keen to abuse muffler laws recently though so you might be safer with your plan.
