Did We Forget About This Gem? Tomb Raider 2 Remake By Nicobass 

I had so much fun making the soundtrack for this demo!! Hopefully we get an update from Nicobass one day :D

In a fair world, this game would've been picked up by the company, funded and released to amazing reviews.

Any Tomb Raider fan would like to see this project completed, but at least we have the demo to play.

After all the years, it is still one-level-demo...

Definitely still want this as a FULL GAME!! It is absolutely perfect!

Tomb Raider II and III definitely deserves at least the same level of remake that 'Tomb Raider I' received in the Anniversary Edition.

This is the remake we all want but will never get...

There seems to be so much more passion and creativity in the modding community than anywhere in the actual games industry.

The tigers even chase you in the water (yes, they swim!), and the spiders climb onto you in the most inconvenient moments (when you balance over pits) and you have to shake them off! Insane! Why don't they give him the chance to make it for real is beyond me.

This little level is better than anything Crystal Dynamics has done. It just has that old, authentic Tomb Raider feeling to it.

This is what Tomb Raider games should be about, you and the game, Lara and the Adventure. No handholding, no talking, no crying, no daddy issues.

We want this kind of remakes of Tomb Raider

it's funny to think that a lot of the content in the 1st level is outdoor and Lara could have just used that helicopter to reach where she wanted...

I hope they remake all first 4 tomb raiders exactly like this. This is beautiful and spot on.

This demo ist the best tomb rider I have ever seen! A whole game in such a maner would be awesome and I could imagine would bring the creator a lot of money. Thumbs up if you would buy the game, too :-)

Didnt Forget. Stil have it installed on my PC and thought of it, when they announced a Tomb Raider 1-3 Remaster. They should make it like Nicobass...

I can never forget about it.. tomb raider 2 is my favourite game and this demo made me happy and I know how hard it was to develop this small section of the game but man it was epic😩💜.. and I imagine how it would be even harder to make the whole thing alone.. without money😶

I had kind of hoped they could all be remade with this engine. The remastered versions aren't that bad. They're pretty challenging.

I remeber playing this a few years ago and I really loved it. Unfortunately, they never made anything more than this rather short demo. I'd REALLY love to see this as a full game. I'd pay some serious money to get this...

Just finished the demo....man I so want this game to be complete. This was such a treat. This felt right at home. Kudos to the team !!

This is exactly what we need from future games. Classic gameplay with modern graphics. No more of this wilderness survival bs.

This one level must've taken Nicobass a LOT of time and hard work, and he cannot make a single dollar out of this project without being sued lol so it's understandable why he wouldn't wanna continue working on this.. It was more like a mini passion-project.

Geeez, this was built from the ground up by one person??! One level or not, that is impressive! Considering AAA games have thousands of people on board which also takes many years to develop, having one or two people to work on a comparable production value even if its just a fraction of the length is still very telling. You can feel the passion in this work, unlike some corporate assembly line. This is why indie games are outselling big ones today!

I absolutely have never forgotten this gem. It might yet be the best remake of a Tomb Raider game if only the developer was never alone remaking it. And TR2 is my favorite Tomb Raider game among all entries. As far as I know, he was making the quad bike course and the manor, and beyond that, not much news except silence. I’m still hoping he continues it despite the remaster coming soon. Everything about his version is spot on, a really good balance between modernizing the game with the Anniversary controls and a journal that gives you clues, but retaining some “not spoonfeeding you” game mechanics while exploring by your own. I’m only hoping that this project doesn’t get shut down by Crystal Dynamics. This is the route I imagine Tomb Raider should have been, if the latest reboot trilogy had never happened. With the remaster, I’m hoping CD reconsiders their plans for future TR, because I still didn’t like the ideas they were going towards for the sequels. Classic Croft is still better in my opinion. More puzzles, exploration, less guides, interactable vehicles, no excessive drama, more about archaelogy instead of looping around family issues.

It's so goregous. I can't believe Nicobass made this all by himself. I would give a lot to be able to play the full version of it. Crystal Dynamics, hire him!

I remember this! Absolutely incredible. ONE person embarrassing an ENTIRE company with the quality of his work and sheer dedication. (the soundtrack guy knocked it out of the park too)

They should have hired Nicobass to remaster Tomb raider I-III

This one small demo made mostly by one guy was way more fun than anything Crystal Dynamics has put out since 2013.

This looks like millions of times better than the official Tomb Raider Trilogy Remastered

I hope we get acrobatic lara back in the unified game. From the recent photo released, it seems we'll finally be getting the dual pistols back but reboot Lara didn't really have the space for her to jump around the jungle with flair.

Tbh, I would pay the guy the full price of an AAA game for this remake if it ever gets finished.

I sure haven't forgotten. I had a blast playing it and honestly, it's fucking impressive even on its own. Can't really be believed, even. Absolutely nuts.

I understand that the creator of this game works alone but it’s been years. I completely forgot about it.

When fans cared more about gameplay and gaming, versus companies that care more about money and quantity over quality. I actually played this over and over again because of the effort Nicobass put into it. Plus it was nostalgic as all hell.

We didn’t forget, we just played tf out of it 3-4 years ago.

Remember watching this on you tube the 1st time it was on there . This is how the remasters should be , but for now they will have to do .

This was the upgrade back in 2017. The graphics can be even more updated today with Ray tracing and more mesh and textures. I don't see why the licensed publishers are backing this

It's a shame this and Sonic 2 HD were never finished. They are so well done. It would have been incredible to see the entire games like this.

Square Enix should hire this guy, give him a team and a budget and in a few years we'd have a kick-ass Tomb Raider 2 remake.

Too bad this project has been stagnant for so long. Everything about it is spectacular. Lara's design is faithful to the classic character but unique enough to be recognized from this project at a glance. The visuals are stunning and carefully crafted, and he captured the FEEL of playing TR Anniversary even though it's on a completely different game engine. The level is familiar to the original from TR2, but isn't afraid to expand the world with new notes, areas, puzzles and platforming challenges. This is one of the most impressive things to come out of the fandom, I hope we get to see more someday!

I haven't forgotten. I regularly visit his website and check on his twitter/facebook to see how the progress is going. It's also one of the reasons why I don't get hyped for fan remakes anymore, and I can't even get mad at the guy - he's doing it for free and he's going to release it never.

More than a remake, I want a new game like this. If you can't get the license, make a spiritual successor with enough changes to not get sued.

I'd love to have seen a fully remade version of the Tibetan Monastery and the Temple of Xian, they were incredible areas back in its originality.

It will always be just a level. NicoBass was active in Twitter for a time, posting screenshots of the mansion level and other areas, with new outfits, a vehicle, etc. Apparently, he made this level as a kind of portfolio to get a foot in the game industry, and managed to do exactly that, so it was shelved shortly after. As a curiosity, there are multiple versions of the level out there, and the early ones include a more stylized Lara model with (ehem) way more 'reasons' to play it.

Nico hasn't posted anything on his web page since 2017 about this game, ive even asked him questions & got no reply, maybe something happened to him or the project got shut down.

No, no I didn't. I was actually thinking how much better this would have been. But I'm still happy I'm playing my beloved series again in updated beauty.

You take the best Lara Croft adventure from the first era, a bit of Anniversary and Reboot gameplay, modern graphics and improved sound effects, music, lightning, give back Lara's iconic look, and tadaaaa... you have this pearl, too short, too good, too bad there isn't a whole team behind it to create a dozen more lvls to recreate the original adventure... Imagine venturing the streets of Venice, going to the opera hideout, swimming in the wreck of the Maria Doria, walking into the heights & depths of the Tibet mountains, meeting the peaceful monks and monsters lurking down there, and make a way throught the hell of Xian, the ephemeral and dangerous jade dream, to confront Marco Bartoli as he plunged a dagger into his heart to become the dragon of legend... But in a more concrete, beautiful and kinda faithful to real places, and at the same time places full of mysticism that we really don't know who to talk to about it. Picture it, dream on it. The POTENTIAL. And of course, keeping Home Sweet Home, as a last stand, in a blue little nuisette... After that very moment, Lara would be right asking us if we don't think we've seen enough, because it we will have seen enough, indeed. Or maybe not. Maybe we'd be ready for another adventure, searching for five artifacts that originated on a meteorite millions of years ago. And that for this we would wander in the jungles bordering the Ganges, then making our way through other jungles, those of the Pacific Islands, where cannibals meet dinosaurs, and after this taking a wide detour through the Nevada desert, not so deserted, because it would hide the famous secrets of Area 51. We would return to London where the queen of cosmetics reigns, through hidden corners, between subways and sewers. Then our road would lead us to research in Antarctica, where a catastrophe like The Thing threatens human evolution... Tomb Raider Anniversary is my favourite game of the franchise, and follows Tomb Raider II/III. I would buy it 100€ each game if their remake would be that quality. Seriously, no matter the time, no matter the money, this has to become a reality. Maybe we'll have a good surprise with Next Tomb Raider ? Think of it one second. Every Tomb Raider is a part of a trilogy. Tomb Raider I-III. Tomb Raider The Last Revelation/Chronicles/Angel of Darkness. Tomb Raider Legend/Anniversary/Underworld. Tomb Raider Survivor/Rise/Shadow. We may have the start of a new one. I wonder if they will reboot, remake, or make a total new game taking from the original while keeping a lot of elements from the others. Seeing the promotional pictures so far, it seems that we are on the brink of a very good turn for Lara Croft.

I have played all the TR games, but have never seen this.

What I liked about these is that there was very little dialogue and the game wouldn't force you to walk slowly just because of it. I would like Tomb Raider Reboot II.

No matter how great this looks, I still prefer the og controls and platforming

Wow, I've seen a vid about it already years ago but just thought, yeah, really nice UE4 tech demo, but - Well, at least they got an impressive demo out. And it's definitely professionally made, kudos to the team, this as a full game could easily be sold (besides legal issues) and they did it in - what? - one year, looking at their website. As a hobby project. I'm sure these guys/gals are working on other games in some company now.

It's funny seeing people saying they want this game, but Anniversary had the lowest sales in the entire franchise. There's a reason they didn't make more remakes and changed Lara's character completely.

Personally I like the original controls and the classic engine. Would've been nice if they remastered the original with this quality and kept the controls. The controls aren't necessarily bad or good. They're simply harder and part of the gameplay.

I would have loved this version on TR2. I’m playing the new remaster on PS5 and although I have really fond memories of the original, I prefer modern gaming controls and movements

I wandered whatever happened to this project. It has been stuck in a demo state for a while now, kind of wandering if it will ever be fully finished
