Why would they? The kids are in high school, never did anything like that before, and it's clear that the parents Do talk to their kids and support them. The mother was trying to get Viola to be interested in the debutante ball And both parents were at the game. Remember, this is Before helicopter parenting and bubble wrapping your kids. That's why the twins had the individuality to be motivated to take chances for things they were passionate about
the movie is a modern twelfth night by shakespeare !!! the main cast names all represent their characters and there are a few easter eggs through out lol, also the greatness thrust upon you speech is taken from the play too it is one of the most famous quotes
This movie is a retelling of 'The Twelfth Night' by Shakespeare, and I think the 'greatness' speech is actually from that play. Don't quote me on that though. My knowledge of Shakespeare is extremely limited. 😅
Love this movie! Man I miss Amanda. Not sure if y’all know what happened to her but she completely went off the rails. Her story is sad. Hollywood did her dirty. Maybe one day we can see her back on the screen cause she literally slayed the early 2000s 👏🏽
She actually hates this movie. She said it really messed with her head seeing herself dressed as a guy bc she struggles with body image issues from always playing the "goofy" girl rather than the "hot" girl
Viola was Dukes second choice, but Sébastien was oneof his bestfriends. So he didn't have insta love with viola, he genuine liked her as a person because he grew to really like his roommate.
And to be fair, Duke was crushing on Viola after the kissing booth and was gonna call her to ask her out on a date. Well, that was until Olivia threw herself at him at the gym in her vain attempt to make "Sebastian" jealous. Once she did that, Duke instantly developed tunnel-vision. And let's be honest, given that same scenario, just about every guy would take the girl who's actually there (and who he's been crushing on for over a year) over the mere chance with a new girl (who he recently discovered even existed) who isn't. A "bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" kinda thing.
I also had the same thought as Bryce about how Viola wasn't really Duke's first choice. Like they had great chemistry with the kiss and he seemed to enjoy it, but after that he was still so into Olivia that when she started coming onto him to make "Sebastian" jealous, he (Duke) completely forgot about his idea to ask Viola to dinner. It seemed like she liked him more than he liked her, especially because he liked Olivia so much. Also yeah the idea of a kissing booth is so gross, not just the kids or adults and old men in line to kiss a teen girl, but also to be kissing hundreds of strangers in a row spreads so many germs back and forth, potentially causing infections or disease - mono, herpes, colds and flu, etc. So gross lol.
(Edited) Well, previous generations weren't high-level germophobes. Cleanliness of person and environment was important, but there was a basic understanding that extreme aversion to interactions with other people wasn't healthy mentally, emotionally, biologically, or socially. Now, a lot of people don't want to even breathe the same air as everyone else; and simply touching people is strangely awkward. This is affecting individuals and society in negative ways that won't be fully understood for some time. Just another perspective. haha. Btw, kissing booths weren't for tonguing strangers. The kiss (done in fun for charity) is typically a very quick, very dry peck on the cheek or on/near the lips, like you'd kiss a relative. haha
@@Cherry-rg6hm I understand what you're saying, but I'm going to reiterate what I wrote. You're giving the vomit emoji over giving a stranger a quick, non-invasive, peck on the cheek or lips. You live in today's society and the way many people are brought up makes them fearful, creeped out, and bewildered about things that previous generations thought nothing about because no one got sick or hurt by the practice. You can stop reading here, but I have an example if you're interested... There's a scene in the 1996 movie, Scream, that perfectly shows what I mean: It's the scene when Sidney Prescott is in the principal's office with the police chief and Dewey. The principal puts his hand on Sidney's chin and lifts up her face to ask her if she's okay with answering questions. Almost without exception, younger people freak out. "Ew, that's so weird. Why is he Touching her? Ew." Everyone else don't even comment on it because they aren't fearful or creeped out by being touched. It's normal. And, we understand that the purpose of the principal doing that is to focus Sidney on him so he can see if she's telling the truth or not about the comfort level. He understands that she may feel like she has to answer the chief's questions, so he's assuring her that he's there to protect her if she doesn't want to. Sidney's perfectly fine with the interaction, but so many people have such a phobia about being touched by anyone, I'm sure there's a socialization difference between all previous generations and this one. Anyway, thank you for sharing your view. I appreciate it and have learned a lot
@@LA_HA Nobody knows what "today's society" means. Nobody knows what society was like "back in the day." We're all mostly blind for the first couple decades of life. Then our eyes flutter a bit until the end. You don't know what the current generation is like, nor how they compare to yours, at least in most ways and to a very high degree. Almost none of us have the necessary perspective, and we almost never get it, and even when we do - there's a limit to what's humanly possible. One lifetime is not enough.
This movie is great. Not only is it just a fun movie BUT it is a really well done adaptation of twelfth night. I love that they even do direct quotes from the play.
Yeah when my older brother played soccer there was a kid on the team that would do front flips for throw in. Somehow the momentum helps the ball go further
I think kissing booths were more a 50s/60s phenomenon- have you watched the 'Golden Girls'? Rose on there tells a story about working a kissing booth at a carnival when she was a teen (the character would have been in the 50s), how she got mono from the 2nd boy and passed it on to 30 others.
Debutant is a sort of elegant party that not many people use this days, it is meant to celebrate girls that become 18 (and for old fashion parents to consider them on the 'market') (At least, in my country, that's what it is)
It's like that in the Southern United States too. Not as much as it used to be, but it was a way for upper class Southerners to make sure their daughters met the "right" kind of guy to date.
Just One of the Guys From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Just One of the Guys is a 1985 American teen comedy film directed by Lisa Gottlieb and co-written by Dennis Feldman and Jeff Franklin, although according to Gottlieb, she also co-wrote the screenplay together with her writing partner Mitch Giannunzio but then was supposedly denied writing credit by the producers.[1] Just One of the Guys is a loose adaptation of William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.[2][3] The film ranked number 48 on Entertainment Weekly's list of the "50 Best High School Movies".[4]
I freaking love this movie. Great reaction! I had the privilege of sitting in a kissing booth but we were giving out Hershey Kisses. Never seen a kissing booth like this. 😵💫
I actually have never seen this movie iv only seen bits and pieces of it in clips but overall it was pretty enjoyable and yall got me in the beginning with zuff bit a womens underwear model lol zuff coming through breaking gender norms I’m sure there’s a market for that but it ain’t me lol you guys are hilarious loving these move nights
Apparently the front flip throw is a real thing because you aren’t supposed to let both your feet leave the ground at the same time during the throw so that’s a way to do it and throw it farther without breaking that rule?
After watching your playlists of Midnight Mass, and Hill House.. I really wanna see you guys check out another Horror show called 'American Horror Story', (at least the first 5 seasons).. seasons 6-10 get mixed opinons.. but if you end up loving season 3 'Coven', then you'll probably like season 8 'Apocalypse'. If you just want to give the show a little bit of attention seasons 1-3 would be fine, but season 2 'Asylum' is a must do, its fans' favorite season of all, so far.
There is another movie, like this, which I’m sure was the inspiration called “Just One Of The Guys” from 1985, you should check it out and see which you like better.
This is a cool film. I saw it last year for the first time. I loved seeing Monique being played by Alexandra Breckenridge, who played the hot ass maid on AHS season 1
This movies really messed with Amanda’s head cause she was already having issues with liking her body and having her look like a dude didn’t help. Also technically Viola wouldn’t be able to continue playing in the game since she isn’t enrolled at the school. With the last shot it can be played like that as long as the ball is still inbounds. If the goalie caught it then it would either end in a tie or a shootout.
43:53 Well it was in the original play. Wait, was it another country or a district? Either way Viola and Sebastian both arrived on different sides of Illyria from a shipwreck so that's probably why I keep thinking Illyria is another country.
Sorry, I can't see a reaction to this movie without the urge to post these lyrics from the original play: "When that I was and a little tiny boy, With hey, ho, the wind and the rain, A foolish thing was but a toy, For the rain it raineth every day. But when I came to man's estate, With hey, ho, the wind and the rain, 'Gainst knaves and thieves men shut their gate, For the rain it raineth every day. But when I came, alas! to wive, With hey, ho, the wind and the rain, By swaggering could I never thrive, For the rain it raineth every day. But when I came unto my beds, With hey, ho, the wind and the rain, With toss-pots still had drunken heads, For the rain it raineth every day. A great while ago the world begun, With hey, ho, the wind and the rain, But that's all one, our play is done, And we'll strive to please you every day." From Twelfth Night, Act V, scene 1
lmao with the wildness zuff says sometimes when you were like he left to become an underwear model i genuinely 100% was like "huh, okay." lol glad to know he'll be back. also i want to second the comment that says "react to legally blonde" i definitely think y'all would love it!
debutante = an upper-class young woman making her first appearance (or debut 😉) in fashionable society. It's a passé tradition that doesn't mean much anymore.
This movie is funny I definitely watched a lot when I was on the beginning of my teenagerhood. *Watching this movie made me think that guys actually seem more terrified to talk to girls than the opposite, like I don't see girls bringing up this different personality to talk to guys I remember watching this movie n thinking dude chill out u just need to breath n say what u wanna say to the girl.*
guys in the comments, i need your help. i look for a film i saw once when i was younger and i dont know the name and i cant find it. maybe you guys will know. it has similar vibe to that one, probably same year of production or smth. for teenagers. there is a girl school nerd and celebrity boy is coming to study in her school. and he asks her to teach him because he has to pass his exams ( i dont remember why but probably to go on tour with permission). and he falls for her in the end obviously. i dont remember the title tho xd and searching by phrases didnt led me anywhere :(
