Become a TTT Athlete: www.trainingthi... On this episode of the Corpus Animus Podcast, TTT Coaches Max El-Hag and Brannen Dorman reflect on the 2023 CrossFit Games.
I like your insights, thoughts and moving forward solutions at this topic. 2 hours pure joy listening to you. And a big thank you for your phenomenal podcasts in general. You run the best podcasts in the whole crossfit world. Btw i am not a ttt client 😀. Love u guys.
I was not wowed by the events.....last years "The capitol" was so memorable, even some of the swim-run events Castro used to put together were so much better to watch than alot of the events this year
This is just my opinion, but it seems like they were really trying to save money on a lot of things this year and I’m not saying that’s a bad thing but if you look at it, there were no outside locations there was no new implements or equipment that usually come out each year The workouts were very basic and simple and contained and I think they did a lot of that to conserve money.
I am happy to see the sport of CrossFit becoming professionalized, but I do miss the early days when the Games were just a collection of guys and gals who liked working out in their garages
I think if a workout only contains "standard" movements, the basic building block movements, then theres no need to release ahead of time, you could bring the ahtletes out and brief on the floor and say go. If its a new movement, standard or item of equipment then it should come out ahead of time.
The rules of the bike workout made no sense. If you want to engineer a sprint component... give half the points for the first lap where everyone sprints and then the other half for the 50mins.
I hear you and maybe that is somewhat unfair, but how does that different from any other sport. If you’ve ever watch a triathlon broadcast on TV or mountain bike race or a bike race in general, they generally focus on the athletes in the front they will every now and then put the camera on athletes in the middle, or in the back for very brief moments in time, but the primary focus for the audience is who is in the lead, no one really cares how the guy and 23rd is doing because his job is to get into the front
Is it not possible to give out an alphabetical list of all the movements and standards two weeks before without giving out the workouts, weights, heights etc. At the same time this wouldn’t reveal for example swimming workouts if there is no specific movement standard. P.s. please no more bikes ever. The chance of being unlucky with mechanical failure should not be a factor for athletes.
Speaking of other training camps, Mayhem had the Mayhem campground, and PRVN and HWPO had booths in vendor village. Next year can we get the TTT parking lot or the TTT Porta Potties? Hate the idea all you want but everyone has to park their car and everyone has to go. On the Noah thing, I think people hated on him because they're all like Max and can't believe that anyone could like people as much as Noah does.
crossfit cannot claim "growing pains" anymore. It's been around this size for over a decade. This is more than enough time to solve some of their problems.
I look at the hard "tests" that people can't finish like the PGA tour events that sometimes the top players barely make par at the end. It's fun to watch them all go -20, but sometimes its nice to see them "struggle"
Love you guys and all you do for us athletes! Thank you for always being there for us 🤍 PS: any role besides being an athlete is much more fatiguing. 100%
Only 5 women finished alpaca vs 21 men. Does that mean it wasn't programmed well for women, or should the time cap have been longer? What do your female coaches and athletes think of the programming?
I personally think it should have been adjusted, but other coaches disagree with that. CrossFit, in my opinion, has done a poor job making the necessary adjustments for the female field and can benefit from better programming in that department.
I agree with your assessment that splitting off the age group, adaptive, and teens will create a huge hit for in person attendance at the CrossFit games. Those athletes, would have to double pay to attend their event, and then to go to the actual games. That’s a large outlay of money and time, which I think many would not do. Which group is more likely to get people into a CrossFit box easier? If you’re preaching health, then a better approach to going after the masters and teens, makes much better sense, and are much more relatable to the average public. It was sad at the coverage, but also at all small numbers of elite athletes, who actually attended the masters, adaptive, and teen events. Well, I know that they’re there to win large prize money, their support could grow the synergy that is so desperately needed, what happens with those left out groups, are there to support you in the future?
Dave castro talks about how it is not his job to showcase the athletes but to test them. Also creating the games to apeal to a mass audiance is a bad idea. The events and movements that take place at the games leak into local crossfit gyms.
Programming felt meh as a spectator, some good and some meh this year. Personally don’t enjoy the bike rides as I just think athletes falling is too likely and can ruin the rest of the weekend and I don’t really find watching a 40 min bike ride enjoyable or the best show of their fitness. Prefer a swim event or even a triathlon style event for that random event. Also think it’s silly when they make new tests like the double under cross overs last year and then don’t follow up to show the progress of the athletes having learnt the skill etc Time caps were also wild this year. Clearly didn’t factor in the heat or fatigue, seeing so many people not finish within a cap doesn’t feel great for the sport. Especially if you have people new to CF. And agree with many comments on here that it looked like they were trying to save $$ this year. Felt like ok it’s the games tick a box here you go. Didn’t feel very exiting. Felt like it was missing something.
I think the top 10 finishers should be invited to an annual athlete summit that essentially decides the movement standards for the upcoming season. That gives CrossFit the opportunity to soft introduce new movements. That doesn't say "Hey ____ will be making an appearance," but gives the athletes an opportunity to discuss/decide on effective and reasonable standards.
They need to stop with the crazy skill stuff. The work on the competition floor is supposed to replicate real life according to Crossfit, right? For example, when would a person do ANY work while walking on hands? pirouttes...double crossovers etc.? What's next, a f-ing bake off? Just stop. Get to the basics, the fundamentals of fitness: strength, speed, endurance. There are thousands of combinations to these 3 components. Stop with the unknowable nonsense and get the programming under control. Let's have the fittest person on the podium!...Semper Fi
Like I said, the FUNDAMENTALS/BASICS of fitness is only 3 things; I said nothing about components (which is way more than 10). If we don't stick to the basics, where does it end? What about shooting? There is at least 4 out of your 10 components there. Is that fitness though? of course not. Laser tag? tight rope walking? Those incorporate most of the components. It needs to stop. I think everyone would agree there is a line where fitness is just not being tested. People want to see our athletes performing athletically, not looking stupid because they haven't mastered a skill movement they just got briefed on a few minutes ago.
Well, if we want to get technical, schools teach 5 of the 10. So three, five, ten. It’s relative. They could apply some of the suggestions in here where the athletes had some type of notice and ability to prepare and then go beyond three or five. We,and they, can’t please all. At the end of the day, I’m a fan of the games and the methodology. We as a community can always split hairs.
