A lot of this is explained in HBP, just after Harry procures the memory from Slughorn. Dumbledore even points out to Harry that by choosing Harry as the one more likely to be the one more dangerous to him, he inadvertently made Harry the one more dangerous to him. It's like in an old folktale, where a rich merchant sees Death in his village one day. Death looks surprised to see him. The merchant panicks and flees to the next village to avoid Death. But when he gets there he's horrified to discover Death is waiting there for him. So he says to Death, "Why did you seem surprised when you saw me at my village today?" Death replies, "Because I knew my appointment with you was here tonight."

It is fortunate for most that Voldemort chose Harry over Neville because Snape would never have pleaded for for Frank or Alice Longbottom like he did for Lily so instead of just 2 deaths, it could have potentially been 5, including Neville.

When Voldemort used the killing curse on Harry in the forest and he returned, he temporarily made harry the most powerful wizard in the world. Not only did he have ownership of the elder wand, but through Harry's sacrifice he essentially awakened the ancient protection spell that his mother did with her sacrifice. Whenever Voldemort or his followers in the ensuing battle cast the killing curse against any of the people at Hogwarts,harry would cast protego (which cannot block killing curses in usual cases) but blocked every one that was cast at everyone he was protecting. not only did he have ownership of the most powerful wand, but he also possessed the most powerful protection.

If anyone’s wondering why Harry’s a half blood it’s cuz his mom is muggle born so his ancestry is not purely wizard borns. I know it doesn’t technically make sense since both his parents were wizards but I heard someone say u have to have at least 3 generations of pure bloods before you before your considered a pure blood.

When reading the books, I always thought that Neville was going to be the one to defeat Voldemort in the end. Harry was always built up as such a hero and Neville as a doofus, so I thought it would be poetic justice if Harry was really just the distraction while Neville was secretly the true hero. As it is, I am not disappointed by either the books or the movies, but it did my heart good when Neville killed Nagini in the movie. I can't remember if he did that in the book, too, but I was cheering my ass off when he got to delivery the penultimate blow to the bad guy!!! WITH the Sword of Gryffindor! Now THAT's justice.

If you read the books, you would know that Voldemort only heard the first bit of the prophecy, not the entire thing. Snape overheard this first bit and ran to tell Voldemort. He didn't hear the entire thing and came to the only conclusion he knew - that Harry was the one referred to in the prophecy.

First of all even Dumbledore says this is a self-fulfilling prophecy. As in, if Voldemort had not gone after Harry, he would not have had anyone who could have "thwarted" him at any point in the future. And in fact he was planning on going after Neville next. He just didn't get that far before he was blown into a billion pieces... Because apparently, murder chips away at one's soul... Voldemort had committed murder so many times that his soul had SPLIT too many times ... and therefore he was obliterated. He was too weak - or rather his soul was too weak - so the night he went after Harry he obliterated himself. Because he split his soul into too many pieces by this time and only had a sliver left... Unknowingly of course. But that's what happened.

Plus, his witch mother gave his muggle father a love potion, so Voldemort was incapable of feeling love or empathy. Any child born of a love potion will be lacking in love and empathy.

if I remember correctly neville told the trio that his family thought he has no magic because he couldn´t do any spells until his uncle held him out of a window holding his feet but let him fall accidently and neville started to levitate while it says in the books the harry already could fly with his toy broom when he was 1 year old so maybe voldemort just figured that harry was more likely to pose a threat to him later than neville

Honestly Rowling could make an killing in book sales if she started an series showing, "What if Neville was the boy who lived." Hell Voldemort can even ask Alice step aside because she's an pure blooded witch and that's, "shameful waste," thus giving her the same chance as Lily to protect her baby.

I think that because both boys had birthdays in the correct month and both parents defeated voldy thrice over, it no longer became chosen one and it became chosen ones. The sword revealed itself in dues time to neville. Harry outsmarted voldy by mastering the elder wand, the paid go hand in hand in killing voldy. One with the other. -I think it would’ve been a keen idea at any point in time for dumbledore to take neville to the ministry of magic and get his prophecy and reveal it.- But overall, Neville suffered in the same way as Harry by not having two parents because of voldy. Yet Neville grew up with his grandma and became scared to many things. Harry was placed by dumbledore to protect him, however with a terrible family that over the years would give Harry VERY thick skin. Through out the entire series, it’s as if Harry is the shield for neville! Harry does all of the dangerous work along side his friends, and when they were all kids, Neville tried stopping them in the common area one time and hermione cast a spell that froze him temporarily there, causing him to ultimately remain completely out of voldy radar. Harry believed he was the chosen one, given all circumstances and had more years to mentally prepare to give himself as an ultimate sacrifice. When Harry gave himself to voldy, he cast the same cast love spell that lily cast. So again, now Harry and Neville are alike because they have the ancient protective spell over them. It just makes sense that chosen one became chosen ones once pettigrew meddled and exposed potters family and put the huge target on him, however in doing so protected Neville from having any spotlight and stopping Neville from facing those many near death challenges that he wasn’t ready for. Neville admits to Harry in order of the phoenix that he’s proud to be the son from his parents, he’s just not so open about like Harry is. The only reason voldy believed Harry to be the chosen one was because he was tipped off. Had he not killed Harry and then went straight for Neville, who knows if anyone would’ve cast a protection spell for Neville considering his parents were already dead. It all had to happen the way it did for Neville to completely fly under the radar and vanquish the last horcrux at hogwarts, where voldy made his first horcrux with moaning myrtle. And the very fact that the sword presented itself in dues time to Neville, fate knew. Something knew. The hat can’t predict the precise future but it still gave Neville enough time to find the hat, talk to voldy 1 on 1 and express his love and loyalty directly about harry. Neville and Harry have the chosen one bond and became the chosen ones the night lily cast the ancient spell on Harry. Harry was chosen to act out the near death duties and neville was chosen to kill the final horcrux by the sword itself. Harry had to take the blow to create the protective spell on all of his loved ones. Thus creating the protection spell. Now here’s what I don’t know, if Harry’s friends were protected then would the snake really have been able to kill Ron and Hermione? Ron performed the avana kadabra spell on the snake and yet the snake didn’t die. So did Ron not truly have it in him to kill and admitted defeat by curling up with hermione? Or did Ron’s killing spell prove to be an example that Ron and anyone else that tried to kill the last horcrux would fail, and it was truly Neville’s prophecy to be able to kill the snake due to his parents beating voldy three times!?! There’s too many loose ends for Neville not to be apart of the chosen ones. Dumbledore may never have been wrong, but you can’t be wrong about something you don’t know. So maybe no one knew to begin with what the true circumstance rules were and misspoke from the get go by saying chosen one. Or even if voldy himself was the chosen one because out of all the wizards, he was the one who chose to be so evil and this is just a story of how the evil chosen one was vanquished in the eyes of Harry Potter. 😮

Voldemort is based on Hitler. The Nazi party greatly emphasised on Aryan features and Hitler greatly valued the Blonde, Blue-eyed Aryans, whom he considered to be true Germans. Despite having a Jewish heritage, Hitler greatly hated Jews. This is similar to Voldemort who despite having a Muggle heritage, ultimately grew up despising them. Also it is a well known fact that Voldemort marked Harry as his equal mainly due to the fact that both Voldemort and Harry were Half-Blood Wizards. Another reason could be that Voldemort initially did try recruiting James and Lily as he saw them as Powerful and worthy additions to his ranks. However they refused and defied him thrice. When Harry was born, Voldemort considered him a mortal threat and hence chose to target him. As for Neville, he was a pure-blood Wizard and his parents (Frank & Alice), while highly renowned Aurors, who also defied Voldemort thrice, there was no mention of the Dark Lord ever attempting to court them. Also there was a Peter Pettigrew who sold out the Potters while the Longbottoms had no traitors amidst them. One of the reasons as to why Snape hates Neville is this. Had Voldemort chosen Neville, then the Potters would've survived and Lily would've lived. Snape sees Neville's existence as his personal failure in protecting Lily.

The thing about this is - if Voldemort rooted for Neville instead of Harry, the prophecy would still fulfill. So that was basically inevitable. In order for the prophecy to not have an effect, Voldemort should have left both boys and their parents alive. That would of course mean Voldemort would eventually rule the world, undefeated and still with all of his horcruxes intact (until somebody figured things out). But Voldemort knew only part of the prophecy, didn't know the whole prophecy. Because Snape who overheard the prophecy (at that time still loyal to Voldemort) ran before the second part, desperate to hand over juicy new informations he just learned to Voldemort. When it became apparent Voldemort is going after Potters therefore, Snape realized he just doomed Lily to death and decided to deflect and turn sides. Pleaded to Dumbledore to save Lily and her relatives. He only truly cared for Lily, but he knew he had to make sure the entire family was safe. What happened next we all know.

Ok. If one goes by grandparents, Lily was either zero blood or full or ?. Those saying Harry was 3/4 are high. It is possible that Lily had a wizard or witch ancestor. Her parents seemed thrilled to have a witch in the family, which implies one of them had a clue. Maybe one of her parents had a grandparent who was magical . This would explain the thrill and the possibility of a line of squibs having a witch in the family. A great grandparent is 12.5% of your genetic makeup. It would make Harry 62.5 % magical.

I was going to say that Harry wasnt half-blood because both of his parents were a witch and wizard. However, Lily came from a muggle family (hence Petunia's jealousy). Thus, that's enough for Harry to not be considered pure blood.

Isn't that common for prophecies though? Everytime I see a movie or film with a prophecy predicting the end of someone, it's always the attempt to prevent the prophecy that causes it to happen

I've always thought that Voldy probably intended to wipe out both families. It isn't ever mentioned but the Longbottoms were probably in hiding too. Maybe it took him so long to get around to attacking because he wanted to find the location of both families and wipe them both out in one night. Thinking for whatever reason that the Potters would be the easier ones to kill he went there first with every intention of going to Neville afterwards. Obviously never imagining that the Potters would indeed be his downfall.

Yes, I love that Voldemort fracturing his soul to create horcruxes is what caused all this, bc by the time he murderered Lily and James, it had gotten beyond his control. Like a vase that has already had pieces chipped off, his soul was so cracked it just shattered when he tried to kill Harry and the last piece, or horcrux, went inside Harry. This horcrux is what made Harry the chosen one, bc it was what tied him to Voldemort to see and understand him, plus "it" saved him multiple times. If not for the horcrux, Harry would've died 6 times by the Deathly Hallows.

Also in the prophecy there is a line that’s stats “one cannot live while the other survives “ Meaning that only one can kill the other. Now that one is dead no one can kill Harry making him immortal

Actually Voldemort was not more interested in Harry because he was also a Half-Blood. He never actually heard the correct statement. Severus Snape was his best death eater at that time and he only heard "Lily Potter and James Potter's son". So Voldemort only knew about Harry. He never knew that Neville could also be "The Chosen One".

"As the 7th month dies = 7/31." Both were born on that specific day. Also! We can assume Voldemort figured out that Potters came from the Peverells on top of knowing Harry was Half-Blood. That made him inclined to go after him, thus "marking him as his equal" as the prophecy says.

Tom riddle marvolo aka Lord Voldemort was the descendant of Salazar Slytherin. And Salazar Slytherin disliked mudbloods. He did not like the idea of taking students of muggle born into Hogwarts.
