Thats actually Basil's second iteration. Basil used to be this character known as Flower, Flower's personality was then split into Mari's personality(with her perfectionism and motherly nature) and into Rowen.Tho I dont remember why they then changed Rowen into the Basil we all know and love but Omocat explains all of this in a livestream she held.
I believe she mentioned that as rowan, it was incredibly hard to write for him and still give him a purpose, or any kind of development. At least that's what I remember from the stream. Basically, he was too static.
I'm a bit salty how a lot of the community seems to picture "Rowan" as a rude and hot-headed kid, all because of this one image. I feel like he was always supposed to be a kind and sweet boy, and this one image was him in his darkest hour, having snapped at Sunny. But I think Basil's far more neurotic and still well-meaning portrayal in the game is great, and by God, it's such a gutpunch when even in a maddened angry state, he's crying and shaking, because he really doesn't want to hurt his best friend. "Rowan" actually lashing out in sincere - and honestly justified - anger would be an ouchie too, but I think Basil's sadness is more impactful, and shows how much he really cares about Sunny.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iPI856fdQH0.html 48:43 is when they start talking about him. [There's also more before this mark as well such them talking about the even earlier iteration, Flower, and showing off the old version of Faraway and Rowan's sprite.]
Now that you mention this (Now being 2 months ago, and me discovering this comment 2 months later) Stranger Basil reacts to Sunny/Omori's evasion from the truth in anger, which is how Sunny/Omori believed Basil would react. Meanwhile, in reality Basil reacted in sadness and was more confused than confrontational. I guess Community Rowan would be closer to Stranger Basil, and reality Rowan would be closer to your interpretation. A big parallel of two different perspectives. Yours and the community, and Omori's and Sunny's
@@okokcool284 and rightfully so, he saved both Sunny and Hero from despair and therefore also saved Aubrey and Basil, all whilst only having burgers on his mind.
@@azra3004i know, he’s so misunderstood 😭😭 it’s probably kel now. kel is my favorite but basil’s a close second. im too much alike basil to hate him for anything (i don’t need another reason to hate myself lol)
@@galxie There is two sides to this, he is hated by ALOT of people for how he reacted to Mari getting killed by instantly trying to hang her, or how he acts in the entire game overall. I personally had that reaction at first, I did not like him. Then there is the other side full of people babying Basil or defending Basil, for sometimes Valid, sometimes stupid reasons. He is loved alot but that is matched by the amount he is hated. If you ask the general Omori fan who does not interact with the community a lot, they would prob be neutral to negative to Basil. If I had to guess Kel/Mari/Sunny are liked more overall than Basil.
@@galxie i think when he's hated, he's really VERY despised, but when he's loved, he's absolutely idolized and woobiefied which is probably even worse
I love how I can still compare one of my friends to basil. Pass version of my friend, he was just like today’s basil, but now he is definitely Beta basil. He still likes plants though.
[SPOILER] Just fyi originally basil was suposed to shoot himself, and the blood splatter would make the shape of something. Omocat said so in a stream they did.
The way basil is pronounced en-basil-ment is now my newest joke egg-salent you just added a new joke to your joke book I'm pretty dumb Yes I do know my jokes are cringe and corny
According to the Omori Basil Wiki (found in the trivia section): “According to OMOCAT, BASIL was originally named FLOWER, a character who appeared multiple times in the OMORI'S STORY comic. He was depicted as a timid, gentle character who possessed the traits of a perfectionist, like MARI in the final game. He was also briefly named ROWAN, as shown in a few promotional artworks such as a teaser from 2012. ROWAN possessed a rough, angry demeanor and was the complete opposite of BASIL's current depiction, much like AUBREY. This concept was eventually scrapped during the game's production, as OMOCAT was displeased with his characterization. Despite this, OMOCAT states that BASIL's current depiction took from both FLOWER and ROWAN's personalities and became his own character, as shown in the final game“
