The scalloped edge on a T-shirt is so pretty. I make lots of kids' T-shirts for charity and this 'new to me' idea will make the girls' T-shirts more girly. You not only have good hacks and ideas, but you are a very good teacher. I learn a lot from you and enjoy your videos.
I LOVE this video! The zigzag stitch is NOT boring after all. I am definitely using that scalloped edge on my next T-shirt, and then move on to the shirring…👍
I got up this morning dreading a skirt pattern my granddaughter chose because she wants the waist band shirred! Thank you for showing me your easy technique!!😘
Wow. I always learn new things from you. Your close ups of the settings and sewing is perfect, and much appreciated. It is like I am standing right behind you understanding the technique.
This is so interesting Alisa, I never knew a zigzag stitch could do so much! Will definitely be trying out the scalloped edge and the tight rolled hem! Thank you so much for sharing this video 🙏🤗 I wish you and your family a very peaceful New Year and lots of happy sewing 😊🎉
I love the Scalloped hem idea. But the tight rolled hem is the prize winner. Yes, I have heard and read it many times " use a tight zig zag stitch." But I never really understood exactly how to do that. Now I do! Thanks Alisa. You have done it again. I am still loving that color blocked shirt. 😍
Omg scalloped edge on knits a game changer. I struggled so much with hemming knits. Not only is this beautiful when you get the hang of it it’s so much faster. Thank you
I also use that shirring technique as you can control how much it gathers in. Another similar use, is when you have to gather really thick fabric and the normal 2 gathering rows may not be strong enough to gather it. Then I use a strong cord/upholstery cotton thread and zigzag over it. Gathers easy peasy
Awesome lesson! I haven't used my Sewing Machine much, except for straight stitches while making pillows and such. I bought every Foot for my 45 year old Singer, and it is a beautiful machine. Can't wait to use this method of Shiring! What type of Cord is used? Thanks Thoughtful!!! You just made a complicated Sewing Technique easy!
wow I love the way you explain things simple and informative. I have been sewing for 60 years and you have given me tips that make things so easy . I subscribed after the first video.. Excellent.
Hi, Ok am Vandana from India. I agree, sewing scalooped stitches or Shell tuck stitches on hemline gives very attractive decorative look. Can you please mention the settings. I will be waiting for every opportunity, where, : when, I can use these two type of stitches. I just love your video very much. So clear & so informative.😊
For your knit dress I have pattern drafting and sewing videos on the channel, especially useful for clean and beautiful necklines. I hope those will help you get a beautiful result!
Learned a lot of useful tips from you and I am not a beginner . Thank you for being so generous . Wishing you a happy new year full of health , love , peace and prosperity .
Wow, I love the rolled hem technique and the scalloped hem. I can't wait to try these out! And if I ever need to do shirring, I definitely will give your hack a try! Thank you so much for sharing these.
Absolutely fantastic video. You have opened my eyes to zigzag. I haven’t done a few of the techniques that you showed. I watched your video two times in a row. ❤😊Thank you so very much.
Hi Misss Really love your demo I would like to say something and please don’t take it wrong When you began sewing I wanted to look at your video, but you was some much excited That your voice was cracking me lol, so I was not listening. BUT know you are more calm and I will enjoying listening to your video. Really please don’t take it wrong, I’m a person that expresses is self but never to put down someone else 💕 Thank you for video Sofie
Wow... these tips and your video skills and effort sure made these techniques possible for me to use. I thought some of them were only possible in factories with special machines. Wow.... More please!!! Thank you! Also, you have a way of teaching that makes sewing more alive to us and achievable.
Thank you for these tips! I had meant to previously try the blind hem technique with the zig zag to see if it would work, but you just confirmed it! All these tips are mind blowing (and I don't say that lightly!)
Happy New Year! This is just the video I want for the new year:) Beginning my journey into knits for 2024. I'll start by hemming knit pjs that are too long - after practicing, of course! I also picked up some beautiful thin fabric for a scarf, so I'll be trying the tiny hem. Thank you!
With the tiny hem on knits (if you want to try it out) - use wash away stabilizer, the example that I made is just woven cotton (and that's where I mostly use this technique), for knits this would come out wavy without stabilizer. Edited to say: I also have a video about sewing knits on a sewing machine and it has useful info for needles, stitch choices, what stitches are good for what and more. You might find it very useful for starting our with sewing with knits :)
@@ThoughtfulCreativity Thank you - I will watch the knit video for sure. The tiny hem is for some rayon fabric I picked up for a scarf. Hoping it works well on rayon:) Might try it with a wash away stabilizer and without since I have some handy and the rayon is so "slinky."
This is the first time seeing the scalloped edge, awesome idea and very creative. I use zigzag stitch for knit sewing everyday and I learned a lot from this video. Awesome tips as usual and always a pleasure seeing a notification of a new video ❤❤❤
Thank you for this! I’ve used a regular zigzag stitch with manufacturer’s default setting on the raw edge of knit sleeves….. just stretching fabric as I sew and end up with a lettuce edge.
Hello there, Mary Ann, l mentioned one of the extra tips in the video - if you find that you keep stretching the edge then a water soluble stabilizer or knit interfacing will help :)
Great video. I use some of your tips already, but I am always looking for more. RE: Shirring. The same process works for a gathering stitch - just use a slightly thicker thread, such as Top Stitch in place of the elastic, zigzag over it and pull the result to gather - stronger and more accurate and less likely to break than the usual 2 rows of basting stitch. Looking forward to more of your videos in 2024. Sally from Australia
I actually really enjoy Sheering clothing 😂 I know it sounds daft as it can become repetitive, I also purchased a serger last year, just a 3 thread one to see if it was something I would use,I have since sold it on and can confirm that I barely used it and prefer the method you have just demonstrated. Thank you for your continued uploads. Happy New year 🎉
First thank you for detailed instructions for the beautiful scalloped edge and idea for using on underwear. 2nd, as another commentor noted: when you get excited you speed up speaking. I have a hearing disability and even watching at 75% speed when you are giving specific #s for stitches and settings you speed up to 150% it seems. Please give a slight pause at these times. These instructions are valuable and I don't want to waste time trying to back up the video every time. Again I appreciate your sharing your amazing knowledge and talent with us.
