Attacking spaces at high speed, in the final third, at the front of your teams formation, is much different from using the ball deeper and at the back of your teams formation. The Pirlo role requires soft, intelligent touches, higher awareness of your environment, a more open focus, reading the body language of the first defender better, etc. There’s just less room for error and Ronaldo’s not good enough. Ronaldo is more like a fast horse with blinders on the sides of his eyes. That’s good for scoring goals, but not for a central midfielder.
