Keown - "You played at Wimbledon and you'd stand in the tunnel and you'd be outside the Wimbledon dressing room and Vinnie Jones is headbutting the toilet door" Has to be the most English bit of punditry ever.
Big Dunc wasn’t just a hard footballer but genuinely hard as nails full stop. Beat the shit out of 2 burglars and dragged them back into his house when they tried to escape haha
Gutted when Big Dunc had to leave Rangers but fully understood Why Big Dunc is Ibrox Cult Hero Roy Keane was wise not try tangle with Dunc esp after would see Stam (no shrinking violet)having hands full Surprised Sir Alex never tried sign Ferguson fellow Scotsman Walter Smith rated Dunc Sir Alex respected Walter & Archie both had spell Man Utd Fergies no 2_
Duncan Ferguson! a mind him headbutting the boy, was it that he got the 2 months in barlinnie for or was it an accumulation of things?? Canna mind, it was '94 but aye he was a big lad and could handle himself on and off the field. Think he's still working at Everton, possibly even with the youths. He was obviously a young boy when he headbutted the boy and came with a £4 million price tag. A lot of pressure for a young lad. Would loved him to have stayed at Ibrox but after that incident the prejudice would have been ridiculous. Wish him all the best
Keown's Wimbledon story was BRILLIANT. I can totally see Vinnie Jones headbutting the door in the tunnel and the French players watching on in bemusement 🤣🤣🤣
Dave Mackay is the Hardest man to play football in the UK. Anyone who knows football genuinely saw how he dealt with other 'hardmen' without being violent and barely saying a word. Lifting Bremner off the floor with on hand was a personal favourite
Duncan Ferguson. He’s the hardest man to ever play football. Ferocious. He made Stan and Keane crap themselves and he didn’t just know how to hurt players like some so called “hard men”, he knew how to fight for real and he’d fight anyone, anytime. Genuinely dangerous man.
Ads Read this and have a little think www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.hitc.com/en-gb/2014/03/08/i-used-to-stay-away-from-him-even-roy-keane-was-afraid-of-everto/%3famp
Billy Whitehurst end of chat. Reporter asking Vinny Jones " Whats it like to be considered the hardest man in football," Vinny Jones " I dont know you need to ask Billy. " 😂
Picked his victims m8. Read some of my comments above, I played at the same time as him and though I wasn't close to him ,I knew him and he knew me (I'm not claiming to be a hardman though incase you get the wrong idea)
@joepaccrakurii1227 no Souness was very cynical and nasty! He went to win and left his mark.. McMahon Smith; half of the Birmingham team of the 80s 😢; Case; Robson; Roberts; Moses; Whitefield et al...
@@artvandelayRFC - That’s how I remember it south of the boarder. Big Dunc’s prison sentence was injustice. He probably had a Celtic barrister, Celtic Prosecution, and Celtic Judge all against him.
Big Duncan Ferguson for me, there’s a clip somewhere of him at a corner with Jimmy Bullard and it’s hilarious. Big Dunc is steaming and Bullard just looks at the camera and makes the “what the hell if this guy on” face. Also two intruders broke into his house and he battered them both to the point where they pressed charges against him.
Sure big Dunc was one hell of a tough guy. There's a clip on him being rude with Jaap Stam when trying to get the ball, and even if the beast Stam have more physical power, you can see he respected Ferguson (otherwise he would've gone mad at him, as he did with others). Anyway, I wish there were clips of Billy Whitehurst around.
Gerard was the one who answered most correctly. He was fairly tough himself, but Souness was up there overall. Everyone loves to hear a story about house breakers getting their due, but Duncan Ferguson managing to dish that out on two separate occasions on Merseyside of all places was absolutely story gold! Footballers homes seem to get robbed more than ever nowadays, it’s time for a modern day big Dunc to leather a robber but I just can’t see it 🙄 Cowering in their safe rooms more like.
i remember as a lad in the shelf watching graham roberts dare a winger to pass him, hard nasty bastard, under rated in the best spurs side to date,,,49 years ago (((((
I spoke to Richard Gough at Dave Watsons testimonial and he said big Dunc went on a night out in Glasgow with his teammates and it kicked off in the bar and big Dunc was the last man standing.. The rest of the rangers team ran outside and big Dunc strolled out with his chest pumping with tough glaswegians all over the floor in the bar... Now that's tough...
It's also BULLSHIT I, I played at the same time and ferguson had a BODY GUARD, not only that but one night after a night out the body guard gave him it stinking and offered him a square go, Duncan picked his victims , this is stuff I know for a fact, lol do you think he could KO a club full of glaswegians? You don't know glasgow m8
From my brother telling me this all the time - He played Professional football with Birmingham City and Luton Town. He always told these players - Mick Hartford, Billy Whitehurst, and Noel Blake - don't ever, ever go cross them.- Mick Hartford was so, so good - that Alex Ferguson was after him to sign for Manchester United, but the deal broke down...Plus he was as hard as nails but played like Paul Marnier....for those in the know...
I remember an interview with John Fashanu when they asked him who was the man that nobody messed with at Wimbledon, he said without a doubt Mick Harford.
The hardest man ever to play football was probably Harry Gregg. Not only was he a goalie at a time when goalies had to be tough. But what he did in Munich makes anything Vinnie Jones et al did on the field pale in comparison.
Gerrard spoke well "theres lots of type strong man..." I remenber Roy Keane with Shearer, never step back always staring to Roy Keane, Keane he just shouting and missing a punch. Shearer stood there kind of saying "keep barting and you out, idiot". I think was the most frustate moment in Roy Keane career, he try to opennent looses is temper and he was chilling seeing the sent off.
United used to regularly batter Wimbledon, that brilliant Cantona goal in that 3-0 win that’s always being shown ? That’s one instance, no way United ever got intimidated, ffs they shit themselves when Sir Alex went off on one after Viv Anderson was nutted. Cowering in the dressing room 😂😂
People to don’t mention Terry Butcher literally carried on playing with one of the worst head cuts ever seen and the famous photo of him explains it all
Jimmy Johnstone 5ft 2 Hardest man in football ever. He used to get kicked up and down bruised head to toe. He’d get brought get up demand the ball then run directly at the guy who fouled him and akin him. He’d often go back and skin him again
Best celtic player of all time, and not only his skill but how durable he was. he kept going after getting kicked about from rangers players back when the refs were even more corrupt, the thugs of atletico madrid of 1974 and the thugs of racing club in the club world championship in 1967! And many more but he still went past players like they were not there
A big notable mention is Coventry's record outfield appearance maker, George Curtis aka The Iron Man, from the late 50's throughout the 60's. There was a story of how two doncaster fans tried to fight him, one was laid out cold and the other was thrown over a car, another of how some fans waited for him after a game, just to see him emerge and think 'f$$k that'. Also there's a great pic of him on a stretcher, broken leg, but sat upright as they carry him off. During his time as gaffer Brian Kilcline started dating his daughter, and was apparently shit scared of him.
What a player and tough as nails. Used to love watching the Hammers even as a Liverpool fan. Moore, Best, Bonzo and Lampard were brilliant. Always will have a soft spot for West Ham, London’s best club and fans. YNWA
Billy Whitehurst would take the both on. He maybe wouldnt win but hed have a go. This guy wasnt even on the pitch when he threatened Ruddock and Razor complied with Whitehursts non too polite request
You must ask hard man Martin Keown about the time the elbowed Eric Young on the blind side and was then chased from the pitch by Andy Thorn and Geoff Thomas. Some hard man Martin........
HAHA!!! You clearly never heard of Vinnie Jones. You could put those 5 guys you mentioned into one human package and Vinnie would still cut through them like butter. He wasn’t just a footballer you fucked with. He was a maniac.
I used to watch Celtic maybe five or ten times a season and Scott Brown was consistently the most fouled player on the pitch, not the most consistent fouler as some people would have it.
Yes m8, for the sh*t the biased media up here had to say about Scott you'd think he was an animal but it was round the other way, brown was a hard man in the sense he got a lot worse than he gave out yet never fiened injury or dived. He was hard but fair and unlike the fergusons and honesty ge wasn't a bully,he led by example and was a great servant to the club
I agree with most on here.Big Dunc put the fear in so many so called 'hard-men'. Razor Ruddock, Roy Keane, The fucking 'Guv'nor' Ince and many more knew not to look in Big Dunc's direction before, during or after the game.Hard men dont go in studs first, they go in head first.Proud to be an evertonian because of people like Duncan Ferguson...and he could play aswell.
It's not weak to acknowledge that someone is nuts. Keane wasn't afraid of ferguson, they never went near each other because they were playing in different areas of the pitch. Stam was the one who battled Ferguson
@@micky1878 because you don't know what to say because you're a fucking idiot. They were both hard players, I am sure Ferguson respects Keane and vice versa.
@@declanobrien1283 roy keane watched ferguson out-muscle every utd player and did nothing.as captain and enforcer at utd it was his job to show the opposition who's bossing the field.the fact is he didn't go near him, never went toe to toe and outright refused to mark him.if you knew the difference between a puncher and a kicker or if you knew anything about footballing -you wouldn't talk such utter shite.you're a moron, go talk to someone who will tolerate the horse-shit coming out ya mouth.
Duncan ferguson is well the hardest football player ! I was born in an era ware every team had a so called hars man and some even had 2 or 3... the butcher of bilbao stick in my mind for what he did to Maradona but I have seen even the so called hard men of football take a back seat from big duncan!!! What a player.. football needs more players like this back in the game b4 it turns into a fairy's game...
But who was harder? Am going for Sparky 100% krown sky and dirty Sparky built like a wall and tougher that a over cooked steak.. my top 3 in my era, i.e premier league is Big Dunc way out infront, mark hughes and stuart pearce
What about malcolm macdonald and peter schmeichel two players who never seemed to back down or shy away from a fight a must say, a do agree wuth Stevie tho for me toughness is also when the going is really bad and you are still there taking everything that can be thrown at you and still keep going thats a bit iv mental toughness imo
For me it’s between Big Dunc, Tommy Smith and Jimmy Case. The thing about Case was he was stone deaf and a very gifted midfielder. He was better than Souness in my opinion. Tommy Smith was intimidation personified and Duncan Ferguson was a freight train of a centre forward. Then again, if you go further back, you are spoilt for choice. My Grandad used to tell me how Hughie Gallacher used to knock goalkeepers into the net when they caught the ball and regularly left centre halves with no front teeth, despite being only 5’5”. He was like Joe Frazier crossed with Lionel Messi.
Liverpool had so many hard men but no one mentions Jan Malby. He had some screw loose. I remember 1986 cup final Everton players just stayed away from him and they had some hard payers at that era. He was also in prison for 8 months I think, for drink driving and speeding away from police. Later found car parked in his driveway after a long failed chase by police.
Game's changed because of the media. When you make a tough tackle, the media broadcasts all the public outcry from opposition fans and you're chastised for it. Now everyone's afraid of being painted as a villain.
