This was in fact written about Shawn Morgan when they broke up. Evanescence fans used to blast this song outside of the hotels that Seether stayed in. Shaun in an interview said the smile/laugh at the end was a dig at him. He responded to this song with "Breakdown" by Seether.

I heard this song in 2015 (first time hearing Evanescence in 6 years during that time); when I heard the lines 'You can't play victim this time' and 'I've made up your mind', that basically woke me out of the ABUSIVE relationship I was in and thanks to family coming to my rescue, I was free from a manipulative, controlling, abusive bastard I was with. So this song is basically calling out to all the abusive jerk-offs that because your former victims are gone, you can't make their lives a living hell anymore and they are better moving forward than putting up with your bullshit.
