CLIP DESCRIPTION:
McClane (Bruce Willis) has to escape the roof that's been rigged to blow and the feds that have mistaken him for a terrorist.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
It's Christmas time in L.A., and there's an employee party in progress on the 30th floor of the Nakatomi Corporation building. The revelry comes to a violent end when the partygoers are taken hostage by a group of terrorists headed by Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman), who plan to steal the 600 million dollars locked in Nakatomi's high-tech safe. In truth, Gruber and his henchmen are only pretending to be politically motivated to throw the authorities off track; also in truth, Gruber has no intention of allowing anyone to get out of the building alive. Meanwhile, New York cop John McClane (Bruce Willis) has come to L.A. to visit his estranged wife, Holly (Bonnie Bedelia), who happens to be one of the hostages. Disregarding the orders of the authorities surrounding the building, McClane, who fears nothing (except heights), takes on the villains, armed with one handgun and plenty of chutzpah. Until Die Hard came along, Bruce Willis was merely that wisecracking guy on Moonlighting. After the film's profits started rolling in, Willis found himself one of the highest-paid and most sought-after leading men in Hollywood.

This is a perfect example of maintaining the tempo of the movie. Die hard never gets lazy, just creative. They pretty much ticked the box on every way they could damage this building.

"Oh, God, please don't let me die." THAT is why Die Hard is such a good movie. I enjoyed the sequels (well, I still haven't seen the last one), but we go from a human scared shitless jumping off a roof to a guy sliding down a few hundred yards of concrete and dusting himself off like he just tripped. I will never get tired of watching this movie, and especially this scene.

THIS. whether you care for Willis as an actor or not, he was human in this film (compared to the Schwarzeneggar,/Stallone/Van Damme 'superdudes' action stuff that was being released at same time. His scene where he asks Powell to give a message to his wife equally makes you fear his survival throughout.

Truly memorable and unforgettable. An iconic, legendary, standout, and amazing film especially with this scene where he gets back up, says what he has to say if all goes wrong, and goes back into action saving the day once again, once they think he's all done as well as down. A film filled with so many iconic sayings like "Yippee ki yay", references about other films, actors, and much more to even mention as well as say about this film. Like its not one of those Christmas movies about joy or happiness but a Christmas film, that is filled with action which is what makes it so unique. Its a film about emotion, being a hero, fighting, against all odds and etc. Like every single part of it was amazing, the story, the characters, the music, the action throughout the film; where no matter what, you were always on the edge of your seat as if you were the character, constantly experiencing his emotion, what was occurring, his humor, the action, it was like a roller coaster of emotions that is honestly better explained if you felt it as well as watched it since you were constantly cheering him on as well as worrying what was going to happen next, and him coming out as a hero, his legacy, alongside saving the day. Like every year, I always watch a Christmas movie with my twin brother, since he always recommends new Christmas films to watch together on Christmas and when he mentioned this, which is a film we've never watched before only until now, it really goes to show how amazing it was & probably his best pick & by far one if not, the greatest action film of all time as well as Christmas film of all time due to its uniqueness. Like I honestly can't believe how this film came out in 1988, and how advanced it was for its time, especially with how great it must've been in that era. It's honestly hard to find anything unique to this type of film like what a time it must've been in that era to be alive. Such an excellent cast, especially Willis who honestly never fails when it comes to these types of films especially when it was in his prime. Sad to see the condition he is in now, wishing him all the best as well as hearing about Gilyard passing away a couple of months back which honestly makes you look back to the film and see how amazing he was. Same with Willis when he was in his prime. Like the amount of people that still watch this film and mention about it, really goes to show how much of a legacy it has, and how its by far the greatest action movie of all time. Truly unforgettable, especially every scene which was just so iconic, amazing and so much to say about this film. Like its a neverending page of words. Like if you're picking out a perfect action film to watch that will always make you on the edge of your seat filled with emotion and always focused this is your film to watch. 5 stars.

No doubt one of the best action movies in a generation (without the terrible CGI) : The reason why Die Hard films (including sequels : even the woefully bad fifth) work is they're unpredictable in their own way. Apart from action, witty banter/humour and backstory is part and parcel of the series - previously there were other movies, in terms of storytelling, they're pretty bland and boring - a trait that Die Hard (especially the original) doesn't have. And that alone makes it memorable and it deserves to be in any top rated list of movies to watch and have in any DVD/Blu-Ray collection!.

Hard to find anything similar these days, what a time. Such an amazing cast as well, especially with Willis in his prime. So sad to see him in the condition he is now, and hearing about the passing of Gilyard, few months back. But we can all agree on this movie and their talent will always have an everlasting legacy. This was the moment for me that this was one of the greatest action movies of all time, and why Hans Gruber is one of the best villains of all time. Such an fun but intense movie, Hans was no joke about killing these innocent people.

For me this is one of the movies that changed action movies, when the macho hero went from a monster that could wipe out an army without getting hurt once, to a simple guy in the wrong place and time.

This single scene exemplifies why I love this move: 3 different character story-lines all interceding right here: McClane has just beaten Karl and must now rush to the roof to rescue his wife (and the other hostages) and then scare them downstairs because he knows the roof could blow at any moment Hans (who has just given us exposition as to why he needs to blow up the roof: to fake his death and disappear onto a beach and be earning 20%) realizes that now that the hostages are coming down, he has no choice but to blow the roof, now improvising a key point in his grand plan. And then of course you have those FBI guys who aim to get the hostages and kill any terrorists in sight. They see John firing at them and respond in kind, now p*ssed that their plan has gone sideways and try to kill him. And then BOOM! The only thing I could never figure out was what was Karl doing up there same time as the hostages since HE KNEW HANS' PLAN. Anyway, it's just a damn shame they don't make movies like this any more.
