To me this is epic. The guitarist was like the Cure meets Voivod. That same year I went to see Voivod in Cali and I walked in early wearing a Die Kreuzen t-shirt and I heard someone shout out "Hey Die Kreuzen! " I turned around behind me and It was Away and Blacky sitting at a little table at the back of the club there. I went over and we talked. It gave me instant cred with them. I reminded them I had met them last year on the Roooaaarrr tour and hung out with them for the afternoon. The entire band was sitting on and around my 1977 Toyota Celica. They wanted our opinion about their new album. They were insecure about it. My friends and I all unanimously said it was epic and mind blowing, it was art. Never done before innovative. They said, "Really?" In disbelief and sighed a big sigh of relief! Snake was chewing on my band Malathion's demo with angst. They were opening for Celtic Frost. It should have been the other way around! They said this band and guitarist massively influenced them.They were the nicest band in toto I ever met. Hail Die Kreuzen! Here is to the originals!
I was at this show and still have the flyer that was posted around the neighborhood. A pleasant surprise to discover this online. I don't remember seeing anybody recording this excellent show but 33 years have passed...must be getting feeble. Die Kreuzen was my favorite HC/punk band @ that time and I still listen to their albums on a fairly regular basis.

I loved die kruezen, and still do. Saw them numerous times in KCMO. Played one of their songs as a cover in my band around '87. This video is a nice surprise.
Number 3 , cool breeze ,what ever that ' extremely slow ' song was for that girl ,the encore with all white , fuck yeah dude die kruzen will always be one of the sickest punk / grunge band ever
When October File came out it was a wtf moment. They had the balls not to be pigeon holed as well as with Century Days...all their recordings great in their own ways..
Chuck Abbate Yes straight up masterpiece on vinyl. The songs are timeless. Lots of odd time signature & top notch production! Way ahead of the game, I’m surprised it doesn’t get mentioned more often
I loved this band. I discovered weed around the same time October File came out. I just loved jamming this in my shitty little red Ford Fiesta. The bassist also worked at my favorite record shop on the east side of Milwaukee. i definitely miss Atomic...Great post...
I did same in Hull England. In my rusty shit brown mini . Cool Breeze was always a favourite. But that weird , goth tinged Among the ruins and Man in the Trees - they were wonderfully unique and we are so lucky to be around a number of bands who were pushing the boundaries from punk/ hardcore at the time. These should have been in Azzerad's book too. The s/t LP still sounds great though
An interesting thing with Die Kruezen, once they started veering away from hardcore (at which they excelled), was how they polarized audiences. At the shows I attended, 2/3 of the audience drifted away after a few songs, but those who remained were very, very into it. That would have been me. I liked a lot of really great intense and creative bands around then, but they were my favorite.
When I saw them near the end ('92, I think?) there were only about 25 people there and the band (Dan, especially, who sat on a bar stool sipping whiskey the whole set) seemed depressed. Then I saw them play a blinder of a set in 2013....with maybe 50 people in the audience. Never understood that.
Please shut the fuck up and never comment on anything ever again. They didn’t need to go further, this album and moment for DK was absolutely perfect and legendary.
