The end times are very close, the Lord has not forgotten the Afrikaners, and we have not forgotten Him. Even though South-Africa may never rise again, I know that one day, we will rise with the Lord as his children. That is what our entire lives have always been based on, this anthem shows that. Despite all the opression the Afrikaners receive as well as many other Christian nations it is only temporary, it is the final test, the test of every mans worthiness, I will persevere until my death, as will all the other children of the Great Lord and Saviour.

Interesting... 7 flags. South Africa proper - UK - England (within the Union Jack) - Scotland (within the Union Jack) - Northern Ireland (within the Union Jack) - Orange - Netherlands (within the Orange flag) - Theres another one I can't recognize.
The 3 flags(left to right) are the Union Jack(obviously), the flag of the Orange Free State and lastly the "vierkleur"(four-colour),flag of the Zuid-Afrikaanse Republiek.
I will try to count all: 1) Flag of South Africa, 2) Prinsenvlag, 3) Union Jack, containing 4) England 5) Scotland and 6) Northern Ireland, 7) Orange Free State and 8) South African Republic containing 9) Dutch flag (Statenvlag).
The red St. Patrick’s cross within the Union Jack actually represented the island of Ireland (from 1801 to 1922) whilst Northern Ireland itself has no official flag since 1973 (after the Ulster Banner was abolished). To be honest, the UK should revert it’s flag back to the pre-1801 flag

Under this flag, South Africa fought against and defeated Nazi Germany, instigated apartheid, ended apartheid, broke away from the British Empire and became a republic, built and destroyed their nuclear arsenal, something no other country has done. It's not a perfect history, but what country has a perfect history? I acknowledge it represents different things for different people, but instead of throwing the baby out with the bathwater, i hope history will judge it objectively for the good and bad things done under its banner.
The anthem and its lyrics are extremely beautiful…. I'm not even an Africaner but it almost made me cry. + If you speak English and know some of German or Dutch, it is very easy to understand.
This is really funny, but when I was in primary school (post-Apartheid), I would sing this. Mee too. This flag doesn’t have to be a symbol of Apartheid, the same as Australia’s and New Zealand’s flags aren’t a symbol for white supremacy and colonialism anymore. This flag tells a story and is part of SA’s heritage. The same as die stem.

@Sam • What about the border between Europe and Africa then? Migration is a fenomen that occurs frequently in human history. Within Europe, but also outside of it. A large chunk of the European gene pool can be attributed to a people from Russia. Also, Spain was once inhabited by many Scandinavians, as was North-Africa. Later, the Moroccans conquered Spain and this altered Spain as well. And in the case of the Boers we're talking about a people and not an invading army. Or would you suggest a group of farmers with wagons, women and children and their modest belonings were a "colonial power"? That's absurd. Don't be a hypocrit. You dislike the Afrikaners because they are white. And now you want the black South Africans to take the buildings and infrastructure the Afrikaners caused to exist. It's theft. Jealousy.
@Sam • I don't have the time to go into a lengthy discussion, nor do I think it is particularly beneficial to my mood. You want a verbal fight and I don't. For me it's even easier to understand as I'm Dutch. 90% to 95% of Afrikaans is of Dutch origin. And Dutch is related to German during the time of the Holy Roman Empire. Diets then split into German (Deutsch/Duits) and Dutch (Niederländisch/Nederlands).
South Africa was never going to stay the way it was. For every 100 good memories and experiences of the "old South Africa" there are 10,000 bad ones; that isn't to say that your experience is wrong or invalid, just that you should hold them beside all the suffering that went on during that same time to the majority of the people in the country you remember. The injustice from the system that created the beautiful South Africa you remember (and rightfully so, your experience is absolutely balanced) was too gargantuan to leave the country unchanged.
