Bok van Blerk - De la Rey Keyword: boer war boere boereoorlog oorlog afrika suid-afrika south africa history song lied liedjie afrikaans trots generaal pretoria cape town kaapstad johannesburg
Wow! I am a 17 year old American who is learning Afrikaans. My grandfather was from the east of the Netherlands. He told my mom that he could understand practically anything a Afrikaans person would say. He is part of my inspiration to learn Afrikaans along with my love of the people. Best of luck my friends!!!!!! Brave Boars!!! We both beat Britain!!!
Boer not boars, the word boer means farmer, although it's not commonly used nowadays as it got picked up by a racially charged extremists political group and their misuse of the word made it offical be deemed a racial slur by South African courts, it's nowadays only used when speaking of an actual farmer/addressing a actual farmer, the apartheid government pushed all whites both Boer and English into 1 white grouping that's nowadays called Afrikaner which means African just in Afrikaans. Also Boar is a wild pig, in Afrikaans it's called an aardvark (Earth pig)
This song has beautiful melody, strong lyrics and motivational spirit. Afrikaners, you have a great history, culture, beautiful language and prosperous land! Be strong and safe! May Prince's flag (Prinsenvlag) will rise again on the land of South Africa (Suid-Afrika). May God bless you. Love from Central Asia, Kyrgyzland (Kirgisië) 🇰🇬❤🇳🇱 Met jou land en met jou nasie, Sal dit wel wees, God regeer!
@@80ki68no its not this song is part of our history here in SA it speak about what the boere had to go trough to still be here ur the boring thing ur comment is dry
It's quite simple really. I'm British-born but bred in South Africa from the age of 6. South Africa is the only home I know. I've lived through it all, and I wouldn't change a thing! This is MY country!!!
Black or not. I love this song. I love howthe boere stand together. Our team would sing it and hug each other black, coloured andwhite at our bootcamps.
As a 5th generation English speaking South African, I am so proud of my boer brothers. Your courage, strength & discipline is unmatched. I stand with you anytime against anyone. You will rise again. It is already written........
RU-vid randomly recommended me this song today, turns out I ve been listening to Van Blerk throughout the reminder of the day. Afrikaans is such a beautiful language! Greetings from Romania, boers! preserve your heritage!
God instructed RU-vid's algorithm to bless you with this song. Even tho I'm Dutch I love to speak Afrikaans. And as such I say to you: baie dankie vir jou komplimente.
i remember first hearing this song in 2006. It became one of my favorite songs. over the years it was just lost in the chasms of my mind, until today when this popped up in my feed for some reason. now i have a whole bunch of childhood memories unlocked. thank you for sharing this music :)
Am I the only one to note the similarity in the tune to Motorhead/Sabaton "1916"? Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery of Alamein: “Give me 20 divisions of American soldiers and I will breach Europe. Give me 15, consisting of Englishmen, and I will advance to the borders of Berlin. Give me two divisions of those marvellous fighting Boers and I will remove Germany from the face of the earth!” (I wonder if he then placed a phone call to Jan Smuts?)
😂Not laughing at the song itself but the naughty boys in my Afrikaans class use to sing this song and the teacher would get so mad😂 she could never figure out who was singing. I'm shocked at what a serious song this is 😅 i really wonder how/where did thet learn it cause they barely even understood Afrikaans 😂
Sadly, this is a song about the past. It's very emotional YES! It suggests nothing about doing something positive about going forward as a nation, that means everyone!!! This will always be South Africa's biggest hurdle? the past!!! It has at times been horrible for almost everyone, yet it's the most beautiful country on the planet? Does any South African really want to go to war about things that our children could never possibly comprehend? Look at the current Springboks people, there are no more quotas, just awesome rugby players representing our nation? TIME TO GROW UP AND FOLLOW SUIT? JUST MAYBE???
There is nothing wrong with the past, if you don't let it affect the future. Which is song and Afrikaans people are not doing. War is something that cant be stopped when people act that way they are acting. Its all come down to just timing. When doors are closed to you are can't hear what is being said.
this song speaks of a time when the boere missed a chance of being African choosing to be to the us what the English was to them. hence they became European peasants for ever in our eyes and in the eyes of the then British lead west. hopefully one day they will choose to be African as a few of them are already.
I AM African! Arrived in S.A in 1966 because Britain was offering its starving, poverty-stricken citizens an option.... Australia = £10. South Africa = £20. We were fortunate that my late mother was able to save up the £20 for the journey. I don't remember Britain. And although my skin is white, I am an African.
The boer isn't british nor european. We've been here for over 4 centuries. Also there aren't just white boere. The black afrikaners of Onverwacht fought with us. They were also descendants of non white voortrekkers. They love all their cultures. The loss to britain enabled the broederbond to rise to power and continue segregation. I spit on the broederbonds graves. They have sullied our peoples name. Other than their tainted legacy i am proud to be a boer and always will be as should all others be with their own ethnic group. As for the british of that time i spit on their memory for all the boer and black women and children they put in the concentration camps. If people as me to show them a different side to our people i show the unity king mpande and andries pretorius held. If the british lost I'm certain apartheid wouldn't have been. All the national party leaders were members of the broederbond. May they rot. For bringing shame to our people. This is my homeland and the birthplace of my people, language and culture as it is for all the nguni descendants that make up the bantu groups and the native lands of the oldest southern africans in the khoi-san and other smaller hunter gatherer groups.
@@lukeozade9957 These are a really beautiful words. To bring a true honor to owns heritage means that you need to have guts to face what was done wrong. Otherway you are onyl fanatic nationalist.
@@Westerner86 thanks, i would be lying if i said i wouldn't prioritise my own people. But not at the expense of others. I'm a nationalist in that sense. But I'm not a blind followers of one or another. As all people should be. If you want an insight into apartheid look up the broederbond. Also the NP promised whites a vote to choose to abolish apartheid or not. They voted for it's end. I hate people that lump us all together. That would be like me lumping modern british in with the british leaders that oppressed my people so. I refuse to condemn a entire people because pf the actions of their leaders.
