you are right - back then every team had great players in serie a - that is why Italians dominated Europe - but how nice would it have been to have seen Maradona play in serie a when Italian football was shown on channel 4 in the UK

In recent times, we see about 3-5 teams hording all the best players in the world. Barcelona is paying for that now. That tactic incurred a lot of debt and they could not afford Messi. But that's killing the game. I only watch club football when the best teams are playing each other. Everything else is a mismatch.

Great post Mita. As you say it is subjective but in my mind there’s no doubt D10S is the greatest footballer I’ve ever seen. I was 10 in 1986 and idolised him since that day. I’d have Cruyff second. Beautiful footballer. Then Maldini third; it’s always attackers mentioned in these conversations but why shouldn’t it be defender?! it’s an art in its own right and he did it to perfection.

Loved R9 as well. And good shout on Puskas, outstanding and very underrated these days imo. He was my dad’s favourite.
