The clip on the fuel pump wiring plug is designed to push in not to be pulled right out (* squeeze the wire clip in an then seperate the witing plug) saves loosing the clip while working on the pump, also no need to try to get the wire clip back into the slot when rejoining just leave the wire clip an push the plug socket back in till u hear it click.
I have the same ‘self-contained’ heater and removed the rubber pump mount altogether, then wrapped the pump in bubble wrap - made a vast reduction in the tapping noise. I also have a Webasto heater on my boat - I removed the pump mount rubber from that and suspended the pump with Ty-raps - that is a better solution and is virtually silent!
For best results: separate the pump, put it in a small box totally filled with fine sand (birds sand). If you suspend the box or put some soft rubber feet under it you will have a quit pump without any costs. Remember to mount the pump a little skew to prevent air enclosure.
I was going to make a video the same about this pump but just beat me to it I ordered my pump from China and it cost me £17 and it only took 2 weeks to come and the difference is amazing I can't hear the pump at all there is a slight ticking but it's not a problem anymore for me the pump is brilliant.
Best sound reduction I have seen so far on those pumps, involved using a couple of small bungies and supporting the inlet and exit fuel supply and suspending it from like a lid or seat area. This is more like on the one's not encased but good info.
I don't know how good it would work in an all-in-one unit like mine since it's pretty cramped and I move it around from place to place. It might be worth a try. Thanks !
I swapped a standard pump for one of these from Ali express, mines bolted in the rubber mount to the van floor and was ready to try hanging it from cable ties but this pump is so quiet it’s not worth any more mods. When it’s very quiet I can only just hear it. I think they must have a rubber stop for the piston as the ‘clunk’ just doesn’t travel in the same way... very worthwhile indeed!
I need to try one from Ali Express because this one is not quiet. It is an improvement as it has a different sound but not "ultra quiet" like the description says. Thanks for sharing.
Seems like a worthwhile upgrade at that price. As you say, it’s improved the situation rather than solving the problem altogether but with the all in one heaters it’s likely the best you’ll get. The metal casing acts as a sound box with the pump bolted to the side, even allowing for the rubber holder. Not sure if anything else is possible but I think I’d look at an alternative attachment to reduce the sound a little more. A styrofoam block cut in half and hollowed out to clamp around the unit, instead of the rubber ring, comes to mind as an idea if there’s room to wedge it in place between the tank and the casing.I feel that disconnecting the mount from the case will help, though. After, that it’s down to ear plugs, I guess! 👍🏻
I agree. I might try to experiment around with the mount like you said but I'm always going to have it close by inside the all-in-one box. Thanks for the suggestions.
@@massa-blasta Just got my heater....It has the crappy soft fuel line...after i replace it with the right 2mm ID hard nylon fuel hose, thats what my pump AND nylon hose will be slung from soft hose for a quieter pump & fuel line (yes the nylon hose is so hard it echos the pulse also)
I extend my fuel line and connect it under the van and back which helps alot.i fell for this pump £21 but I haven't connected it after buying it a year ago as I'm not convinced.so I find watching this Interesting.
I suspect a bit of kilmat stuck to the outside of the steel panel would help with the echoed thump... and maybe some weighted blanket over the top. That cover is like a box drum.
Well yes it is quieter but a rotation pump would even better. The update i saw use a boat fuel tank with quick connections. So refueling is easy no chance of spilling fuel inside. Just a thought.
Thanks for your taking the time to ‘explore’ taming that ‘sound’😡. i don’t mean to “knock” that pump 🤣🤣🤣. Sound Abatement by Isolation is my next step. 🤔🤔🤔
I've been "clicking" around on the internet trying to find a cure to "knock" out my noise problem. Keep me updated if you find a good solution. Thanks!
I saw a video where a cup hook was screwed into wood above, then the fuel pump was suspended from the hook with a loosely fitted tie wrap ( zip tie. ) The zip tie went through the mounting hole on the pump bracket. After that it was super quiet ! HTH
I just wanted to comment, that a it seems like a large portion of noise comes from metal sheet transfering the vibrations from a pump. So In this case suggested solution should give a great results.
The retaining clip on the pump is pushed down to free the electrical connector.no need to take it out .It has a nut on the end to clean the pump inside, thay are sound free when mounted away from the metal unit.
on yours, it sounds like the sound is amplfied by the metal housing panels, like a little drum. On my external-pump type, it's a higher-pitch click. It sounds like yours has a click and a thud sound. I wonder if putting some cheap sound-deadening adhesive foam panels on the inside of that housing would decrease that thud sound. The empty part of the fuel tank may also resonate like a drum, so putting some of that sound-deadening foam on the sides/top of the tank would also help.
I totally agree. I have some sound damping material to add just like you suggest. I never thought about adding to the fuel tank. Thanks for the good suggestions!
Keith, As smart and as good a fixer as You are I believe You could make You a stove out of a propane burner. Of course the best and safest heat is an electric heater and a quiet generator. You might check Gonagain channel he heats a 6x10 Caro Trailer with a small propane heater.
@@J1I9M7M4Y It is hard to believe but one pound of propane will produce 1.6 pounds of water....sounds like magic but it is true. That equals 26 oz of water added to the air for each one pound bottle. This not only causes condensation problems but can also cause you to feel cold.
The fuel line between the pump & burner is too soft and is expanding on every pulse so replace it with a more rigid hose. This will provide better & cleaner combustion + help with the noise. A lot of noise is transferring to the steel enclosure thru the rubber pump bracket so get rid of it entirely. Suspending the pump from above and below on a leather or rubber strap or even the old fuel line, hold it to the pump body with another (larger) hose clamp. The idea is to let the pump float quietly in its mount.
I have a heater in my shed. With the pump mount fastened to the shed wall the pump was very loud even when standing outside the shed. I suspended the pump in air with cable ties and now can't hear it at all outside and its much quieter inside too
I did something similar and it makes a world of difference. What I did was insulate the inside of a tupperware like container and suspended the pump inside it. I have the pump inside my van so I can still clearly hear it. However, it is night and day compared to before. Man that thing was loud. It sounded like someone knocking on my van door...lol. I was tempted to just wrap the thing in insulation but I wasn't sure if it might overheat or something. Suspended in the container it at least has some air around it.
You need a smaller fuel pump output hose. The size you are using is approx. 3mm I.D., it should be no larger than 1.5 mm I.D. to prevent cavitation (air bubble in the line).
Just a lower tone, actually I find neither to be worse than an old school wind up clock. We had those for years before digital and the sound never bothered anyone.
I agree! I recently took a piece of dense foam and zip tired it around the pump which is pretty much what you suggest. I believe that was an improvement. Thanks!
I've got my pump in a 150mm x 150mm PVC Electrical box with 20mm thick dence foam all around it on my truck frame chassis and same foam on back of the box . it's not bad I can't here it in the cab but outside only 50% quieter now.. just brought this pump to get that noise to 25% hopfully outside.. just payed 25$ Australia eBay.
Great job once again. I have heard on another You Tube feed that there are also softer rubber supports out there somewhere that help with the noise. Keep up the good work, thanks.
Yes the new pump is quieter, but if you want to keep the price of the heaters down then one has to put up with a slighter noise. Also interesting to note that you can purchase for much less than 30 dollars.
Please post a link to the original heater. Would you buy again? Why/why not? Does anyone make a heater that is already "quiet" when new? Thank you for a useful post.
My heater is not available from the same seller on Amazon I purchased for $111. I think they are all very similar as long as it is 5kw or 8kw. The tag on mine says "New Ideas". I think they are all a little noisy and there are many videos showing ways to silence the pump. This video might be helpful: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VjZU7Les19c.html Thank you!
That fuel tank is incorrectly seated in the casing.... Have you got something out of placed or trapped under the tank....every time I open up the case and play about I get the same problem, tank not located correctly, usually if you pull the fuel cap back or forth it lines up and pops up into position where it should be.... Thanks for the video, just what I was looking for. I think I'll try and sound deaden the pump with some sort of fire proof wrap at a much cheeper cost... Mines located next to my campervan bed so it's so annoying. Thanks
Could have did wat I did..made a thick plastic egg like shell with one way valve . Silicon both half's encase the pump plus 1cm of each end of the pump ends and vacuum all air out..in a vacuum enclosure no sound at all and the tick sound is 99% gone..yours sincerely from the old qeer corrupt uk 🇬🇧
i think in a video i saw somewhere, where fuel pump came with a dampening piece to help with the noise. I think it was a fuel pump for the ultra expensive Diesel heater made in Germany.
@@geenote you can check out this video(Diesel Heater Pump Noise Damper Test) this guy installed one of those dampeners. Results 4db reduction in noise IDK if its worth it?
You must get the pump out side and far away as possible. Then take out the shock of pump action 🤔. Use a peice of spiraled fuel pipe either side of pump to support it, about 4in long excluding length clamped each side onto the pump it's self will do it, that will safely suspend the pump, or you can use soft rubber suspension set up to hold the pump leaving it relatively free to move a small amountused l used both options, spiraled fuel line double ( clamps each side) and mounted pump furthest away l could get it. Then you have silence. Complete silence. Good luck bud . Martin. 🇬🇧
That sounds like a great idea. One problem I have is that I move the unit around often. I use it in my house, in my truck shell camper, RV camper, tent camping, etc. I have to keep the "All -in-one" design all together and portable. Thanks for the tips! 👍
Yes - I did that and it was an improvement. Others let it dangle from a string but I really didn't want it unsecured if possible since I move it around often. I was going to add sound deadening material to the inside case but there is no room. Thanks! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VjZU7Les19c.html
@@geenote My pump is in a rubber diesel pump case (ebay), then wrapped in 2" of very very dense foam, then wrapped in duck tape and mounted underneath my van and still there is ticking/vibration - enough to bother us while we sleep. I'm going to try re-mounting and have it "free-floating" somehow. My only concern is with it being underneath the van and having too much freedom to move around if it's not firmly attached...
@@geenote Yes, I agree, I am not satisfied with that option anyways. I've already suspended the pump with zip ties and it barely even helps. I plan to buy a weatherproof junction box and soundproof the inside. If that doesn't quiet it sufficiently, I'll purchase the actual silent pump that James Browning-Smith makes.
I mean if you had a choice between freezing or listening to the fuel pump I mean it’s obvious I have an Espar On my semi and to be honest I’m so tired at the end of the day the click click click does not even matter
It makes almost as much noise as the original one. I am thinking about wrapping it with some specific material that blocks the noise, not sure which one but there must be something out there to end this nightmare
I'm now wondering if sticking something like Dynamat sound deadening sheets on the inside of the casing would have more of an effect on the things sound level ?
I've heard that if you hang the noisy Chinese heater fuel pump from a twist tie as aposed to screw it in is hella quit .Cost of twist tie ,a few cents .
Someone told me that we must angle that fuel filter in addition to the fuel pump upwards (like yours)? Is that true? I don't understand why the filter needs to be angled if the pump takes care of the bubbles?? Thank you.
@@geenote Apparently, it does NOT necessasrily need to be angled up. Especially, if it's going to be 1-2 inches away from the tank (in my case). John is the Chinese Diesel Heater Guru (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jCZhjGyR3bo.html) !!
Short answer is "sort of". The result is subjective. I was hoping to save people time and money by providing information in this video. If you are interested in one, it might be worth watching an 8 minute video before you order and pay for one, wait for it to ship, install it, and see what happens....
I see alot of videos on chinese heaters And $1500 heaters I think the Zen would be a $200 that does the job quiet and last a few years a upgraded Chinese heater should do this That being said Take the fuel pump Wrap it like a hockey stick handle with silicon rubber tape Don't throw it in a box with foam Unless you are going into the speaker box business ...Hollow out a dollar store Noodle That you use in pool cut it down to 6 inches throw that over it and zip tie that ...I bet you You have a upgraded pump for under $40
