Diesel heater setup in my 2019 Silverado! Best heat source for winter truck camping? 

Dude I like that suppressor box for the fuel pump, everyone says that the noise is the only downside to the heaters. I'm going to install one of these and I'm going to get that type of box. Thanks for the tip. Good luck with your channel

I have several of these heaters. The older ones with the metal body just don't die. The ones you get from ebay or amazon with the plastic bodies nowadays typically last a few years. The diesel pump and the internal fan motor are the only problems I've had so far. The pump for some reason just quits and you don't get the proper dosage causing it to try and start but it won't. The internal motor to drive the fan blades is a brushed motor. The brushes wear down eventually and its much easier and cheaper to just replace the motor than the brushes. You will hear a whining sound when it starts to go and the force of the fan starts dying down. From what I remember both conditions cause an error code. Much love from NW Ontario Canada

I'm thinking about using one of these to heat the cab of my Toyota Tacoma, on which the heater has gone out. My question is about the power source. I don't know much about marine batteries. How would you recharge the battery the diesel heater is connected to since, in the setup shown here, the battery doesn't have an alternator to recharge it? My biggest question is, if I mount the diesel heater in the bed of my truck and run a hose to the inside of the truck to pump in the warm air, while venting the exhaust out the tail gate, how would I provide electricity to the heater?

Did you consider using 2*6v deep cycle for a power source? Just to have more amp hours?

Really appreciate the level of detail here. A lot of content gets tailored for short attention spans, but this vid gave me a good idea of if I would be interested in a similar set up and how to replicate it.

How long will it run off the 12v battery?

I have been using one of these for 5 years now, a 8kw unit but its in a RV. I live in it full time, including Canadian winters. the only thing that wore out was the pump, $28 to replace. To be fair it was probably my error, at minus 40 the diesel fuel will gel burnt out the pump running dry. I now run a 1:1 ratio of kerosene and diesel in the winter, zero problems since. brilliant idea on the camera box for the pump. For the exhaust I used a marine chrome exhaust port flange from amazon, $40 super clean install

Great Video. I have been considering a Diesel heater for my truck, but I live at 7,000 ft in Colorado. I have been researching how well these heaters work at altitude, but even the expensive heaters say they work up to around 8,500 ft. which isn't much higher than where I live. Have you used your heater at elevations in this range and did you notice any issues?

Great video! Really nice DIY solution you came up with. One thing... I recommend you get a carbon monoxide detector to install in your cab just for safety in case there's a leak in the exhaust or combustion chamber.

They all use same parts and you can order any part you need and they have rebuild kits to make it new. If you can get kerosene or Jet A fuel works the best no soot build up like diesel or you can blend it 50/50 and your good wont have to take apart and clean, JetA or kerosene is the best and diesel is third choice or a blend is better then 100% diesel !

I have a 2019 Ram and was looking into this but I don't know if I want to drill a 4 inch hole on my 70k truck. I mean, my wife may not agree with it but 4 inches is significant.

I had a fun bunk in my 1992 3/4 ton Dodge 4x4 5.9 12 valve Cummins and we pulled a 25’ Road Ranger and we went all over the west so my wife and daughter and her girl friend for 5000 miles and in the mourning we put a 12 volt fan in the sliding back glass with blow up seal between truck and a big glass camper shell and with ac on max and vents blowing toward back window they stayed cool all day and it worke great and dear season a little ceramic heater plug truck and tur it on high and 1/2 later put on low and stayed toasty all night .

I have limited space under my bed what's the maximum height of it?

I’m on my 5th velvor? Diesel heater and I’ve never had a single problem with any of them. I full time a motor home and use two of these to heat a 30 foot motor home. I also have one in my jeep and truck. You can’t go wrong with these for the price.

I replaced the propane furnace in my 18 foot camper with an 8kw diesel heater. I lived in that camper full time for 3 years and only had 1 issue with the heater. About 2 months in the fuel pump gave out. the best part is the heater put out way more heat than the propane furnace and went through way less fuel. 20lb propane tank would last 1.5 days vs 1gal of diesel a day

Have you had any issues with mud, dirt, dust, or grime on your intake underneath the truck?

I’ve probably watched your videos ten times each. I’ve started collecting items for my build. What is the width and height of your box? I’m thinking about using 2020 extruded alumium for the frame, so it’ll be extremely light and tough. Thanks for your videos, they have helped me a lot. Can’t wait to see where you go next.

I'm curious. If the fuel line enters the heater from under the bed, couldn't the fuel pump be installed under the truck bed as well. Wouldn't that avoid noise inside the sleeping area? Or is there a reason it has to be inside.

Great video and camper build! I have a 2004 Dodge Ram I am planning to set up as a camper. I like the lightweight, simple design your have. Question about the heater intake: Does it use fresh outside air and or ambient air intake that's switchable, kind of like a car heater?

How cold have you camped with that heater? I'm just curious how well the 2kw heater works in extreme cold temps.

As for longevity I've had a five kilowatt one for over five years now and it has worked flawlessly I have it in a 24-foot Class C motorhome it will keep my motorhome warm at -20 Celsius no problem it's been a great investment

I've been dragging my feet on installing the one I have for my truck and really appreciate your videos on how you did yours. I do have a question about the fuel line as I must have missed something. Why does the fuel line go into the bed from underneath if the heater and tank are both in the bed?
