That is Not a Diesel engine, it is a multi fuel engine. Diesel is what is used most in it but can mix gasoline and motor oil to keep the injection system lubricated, jet fuel, peanut oil almost anything that burns. Needs to have something about like lubes diesel. But most anything with some oil added will run.

@ridgerunner0001 I did do some research as i was really puzzled and you are correct. I guess this model went through some revisions. These older manual multifuels are cooler in my opinion.

@KeeperofTheMountain It could if i managed to get one started. Thats the issue they sell them as no starts most of the time and you have to get them off the lot. It can't imagine they are very difficult to get running but its a huge risk to take.

so, i am looking at one of these, i drive them in the military and want to own one of my own. do you think this could make a cool rv, or just leave as a man cave?

multfuels could run on avgas, mogas, diesel, kerosene (JP4 like the helos used) I had a guy in Thailand that ran his tank dry doing daily maintenance over a month and didn't keep his 5gal can full. well he wuz pullin' a generator trailer that had something like 6 5gal cans of mogas....I loaded one into the duece & a half so he could drive to the POL for diesel topoff and then got him a brand new -10 manual for his very own reading pleasure (G)

@Liowen when you say any gas do you mean as well as gasoline, or ethanol

@OnusofStrife Well he just took the info to the DMV and got the title. He is the first civillian owner.

This has the continental multifuel, sounds likes this has the whistler turbo too.
@KeeperofTheMountain

@Liowen Cafe standards. The Federal Government requires an average fuel eficiancy rate from manufactures. No multifuel engine can run well enough on any fuel to meet those standards.

in its military day it might be like he's gonna use it or as a work shop. you could see these on the flight line as a maintenance office. man cave for the top of da mountain. (G) this is a 1960's era Army truck. I called em M35 platforms although there's a fancy name for it before the box or bed is mounted on the back. doesn't have to have all 10 tires....two on intermediate axle and two on the rear axle. and DD1 is correct...about two gal/mile (G)

If it's 1960's,then it's late 1960's because the Deuce & A Half from 1961 to 1966 had a LDT-427 instead of the LDT-465,LDS-465,or LT-465,they weren't the same Engines.

No power steering I take it?

No, we call this "Armstrong Steering".

Keeperof Themountain He should look into getting the air assist or hydraulic conversion...they're worth every penny. I got a good deal on a brand new air assist kit and got a "buddy" to help put it on. $1000 for the kit and $200 for the help. I also got a brand new 18 inch steering wheel (as opposed to the 20 inch) that they use in the M9XX series trucks...I think it was $125 for the steering wheel. If he can keep the cost around what I spent I'd go with the air assist but any more than that and you might as well go all out and spend the $3000 to get the hydraulic steering. Then it will drive nice and smooth like a modern truck. www.imagebam.com/image/8aed7d379819427

Its all fun and games until you start driving it almost everyday and in tight spots. I'm finally finishing up the power steering on mines
