I personally follow the ADMF (Alternate Day Modified Fast) protocol in which I eat just one meal/day consisting of 500-800 Cals on M/W/F, and around 2000 Cals/day the other days of the week. I place heavy emphasis on protein on all days while eating low-carb. This protocol is a great way to not only lose weight, but with slight modifications (increasing calories somewhat on the "fast" days) to maintain one's weight and muscle mass w/o going hungry, and w/o the weight rebound that happens to 90-95% of the population that goes on a so-called temporary diet consisting of calorie restriction. The ADMF protocol is a great way of eating for life!

Strict keto OMAD for 7 years now. Clearer thinking, stronger, better endurance, stable mood, and keeping ailments at bay. Eating this way is definitely do-able for life. But of course I get hungry. Hunger is a natural body function and nothing to be afraid of. Too many people don't allow themselves to ever get hungry, eating all day and keeping their insulin levels high. No wonder they can't lose weight and have no energy. And too many people are adamant that they are never hungry while fasting. If anything, a person will start to get hungry in the first 24 hours, before it starts to subside. Being afraid of hunger and being in denial of hunger are both silly.

Keep your calorie mostly below what your body can utilise. The most interesting thing for me is endurance athletes who have sugar all day but yet have some of the lowest risk of all cause mortality and type 2 diabetes. I don’t think macros matter too much as that’s the reason why people have success and similar outcomes with both HCLF and LCHF. Personally I do much better long term being in calorie deficit most days with between 1-3 meals a day. Other people may find fasting once a week or once a month to achieve the same deficit easier. Do what works for you but I think the calorie deficit is still behind the benefits.

@calebbreidenthal4300

I think he mentions in his book that while fasting isn't a favorite overall strategy anymore because of the lean tissue loss, prolonged fasting is still a tool that can be used only in severe cases where lean tissue loss is an acceptable price to pay for severely metabolically ill people. He tells the story of his friend who simply could not stay on track with a ketogenic diet but found that a rigorous fasting routine did work for him. Hope that helps.

@cyclamen831
@cyclamen831 Год назад
I agree that the message is somewhat confusing.I think it would be important to have Dr Attia or Dr Layman explain, say in a monthly fashion, how to eat to maintain muscle mass while incorporating these techniques to suppress periodically mTOR. I think the difficulty is also that each age group ( children , teens, adults, and so on) may have different benefits or detriment effects from these two approaches, not to mentioned if you are underweight, nl or overweight. From listening to the entire podcast I have the impression that the best data is all from overweight patients rather than a person say older but truly fit and with normal weight. Perhaps, and that may be the case, the science is not yet there.

MTOR activiation for muscle protein synthesis is different from MTOR activation in other tissues. Overactive MTOR likely leads to chronic inflammation, which is effectively your immune system ramping up excessively to fight what appears to be a problem, but would be better left alone.

when you are healthy you don't need it, it makes rather harm to you. that's the problem. most of people which talk about miracle diets were in deep shit state of health and then they improved. they are usually average at most but they are fanatic about this change. any change, especially when it is objectively for better, can improve health. but it is usually just limited time effect as you eliminate some kind of harm of previous diet. but after some time, new diet weak points will eventually build up too. there is no universal way. one should be mindful, flexible but still instinctive. and continue to learn more about his body and diet. also age, job and lifestyle and even part of the year could change needs of your body and one should include it into whole equation...

Try the ADMF (Alternate Day Modified Fast) protocol. You fast for three days of the week restricting your calorie intake to 500-800 Cals/day (eaten in just 1 or spread over 2 meals), and then eat normally the other days of the week. After a few days of eating this way, you actually won't be that hungry, and your hunger will actually disappear within a week, or so. This way of eating will help you to maintain your muscle mass and keep your metabolism high because you're eating normally on your "feast" days. If your motivation is to lose weight, then concentrating on a low-carb way of eating with emphasis on protein is the way to go. Exercising on your "fast" days would accelerate the rate of your fat loss.

Also as for experimenting on humans or trials ask people like me how we lost 50+ lbs in one year without suffering. I just cut out all grain and sugar. Ate potatoes and a huge salad a day with lots of protein in the form of hard cooked egg chicken breast walnuts seeds kidney beans garbanzo bean all the vegetables all the green sprinkling of blue cheese or parmesan and for dressing one tablespoon olive oil several tablespoons of vinegar. Ate omelettes of all sorts with just a teaspoon of cream cheese for flavor no other cheese in my diet no butter no high-fat creams or any other kind of fat besides a little peanut butter on a half a banana in the evening avocado along with the nuts and olive oil all minimal and at 53 I looked in my early 30s and got into my size 4 Levi's after being a size 16 lost my cravings at two weeks by drinking kombucha whenever I had one and lots of herbal infusions. Try it.

It is disgusting and offensive and ethically insupportable that people do these kinds of horrific procedures on other creatures in the name of research. There is no way to justify that. We are not mice. The fact that you get a result in mice does not prove a similar result in humans. I would question the humanity of people who can perform horrific experiments on any living creature. I am an attorney and if I could prosecute this, I would in a heartbeat.
@karlpk3907

Then we learn very little about biology and very little about we can do to help people. Are people more important than laboratory mice? For example, suppose it is true that people who have fasted recover better from surgery, but we don't know that because we have not tested it on mice. So rather than knowing how that mechanism works, we proceed with the surgery and some people who would have lived actually die had WE known from an experiment with mice. Remember this principle-- sometimes there is no perfect solution, there are instead only tradeoffs. Would you trade the life of a laboratory mouse for the life of a loved one? Because that is the tradeoff that, ultimately, you think is either worth it or not. By your comment, you think not. I bet you are in the distinct minority.
@Kyarrix
@Kyarrix Год назад
@@karlpk3907 Sophistry. You're making arguments without substance. Torturing mice doesn't give us real information about human bodies and how humans will react. We aren't rodents. The fact that something works or doesn't work in a mouse is indicative of precisely nothing for a human being. Many of these research labs are doing these things to justify their grants. It is abusive and ethically and morally insupportable. Why do you believe that it is okay to torture animals without any real gain? What in that is appealing to you? Perhaps these are questions you should interrogate on your own before responding here.

@@karlpk3907the comment above has a point. We are not mice. What might work for a mice may not work for a human. They are just speculating and to make an animal suffer for something that they are not sure about is wrong. If we can send people to the moon and have cars that drive themselves,I’m sure we can figure out how to find answers without making animals suffer. Specially when is just speculating.
@karlpk3907
@karlpk3907 Год назад
@@phoenixgirl11 True, it might not be applicable,, but then again it might because mice are mammals and so are we. If you think we should never do experiments using other animals, who clearly are not as intelligent as we are, because all living things are somehow precious, that's your prerogative to believe. But it is a belief. Then you simply have decided to forego the potential advances we we, as humans, might achieve, as OUR species. Remember, the lions don't care whether their prey survives as a species. They have simple survival imperatives; they do not and cannot think in those terms. We, as humans ARE different. We know the differences and understand tradeoffs.
