It's important to remember that doctors get sick too. They're human and deserve care and support as well.

Absolutely. Many suffer with addictions to controlled medications and must get treatment in order to keep their credential. I doubt it would end well for them if they made youtube videos featuring tips and tricks to keep using the medications.

What you eat has a lot to do with how good your skin is though, more than what you put on your skin. Just compare their complexions. I struggled with an ED as a teen, and my complexion back then was grey and dull like Dray's. I studied health and nutrition after, and after learning how bad malnourishment from EDs can get, I'm so thankful I recovered before I did permanent damage!

@ThatOne Other than protecting your skin from the sun, what you put on it dosn't do much actually. I have psoriasis and other genetic skin issues, so gone to a dermatologist since I was a kid. Learned a lot from him. And mydelf, I have an education in health and nutrition. Uhm, she does show signs of ageing, at least in this video. Definetly because of too little nutrients and fats though. But glad to hear she's doing better now!

Yea women’s bodies need a certain amount of fat each day to function properly. Underweight women often have issues conceiving even if they still get a period. Biologically speaking there is something called a “primordial pouch”, it’s that little extra lower belly fat seen in paintings of women from the Renaissance era, and it’s main purpose is to provide energy to a fetus if a woman is pregnant during a food scarcity.
@JKBelle

Vegetable oils are inflammatory (canola, seed oils, rapeseed) not good for you, but animal fats are necessary like butter, lard, tallow, etc. Coconut oil and Avocado oil are pretty good plant based oils!

I only recently discovered Dr. Dray and noticed that she was both intelligent, caring, and educational, as well as anorexic. Anorexia is not a dirty word. Neither is depression, bi-polar, manic, borderline--none of these are dirty words. As much as I love Dr. Dray for her intelligent content, I love her equally for her bravery whether she is ready to acknowledge it or not. It's not our business, but it's also not something we should be shamed for talking about. This is a subject that has affected almost us all. I used to do this. And also supplement a lot of food with cauliflower I was scared of eating potatoes and almost never did (unless I was stuck having to eat dinner with my parents) And also the nut counting I used to eat no more and no less than 14 almonds because it's around 100kcal. I'd set certain portions of foods to limit the amount of time needing to calculate and eat the same foods over and over At one point I even made a list of allowed foods 5 drinks 5 ingredients for meals 5 snacks And I believe there was another category of 5 sweets? (Also included sugar free gum) And that was all I ever allowed myself to eat unless I had no choice And the meal ingredients were stuff like cabbage, tomato, cucumber The only things that had some sort of substance were almonds, whole wheat bread and tuna The drinks where all 0kcal or close to it Looking at my old ed habits make me sad. @@AbbeysKitchen & Jason Manning: All you have to do is look at the intro video clips of her working out 3+ years ago when she started her channel & compare them to clips over the past year to know that her weight is MUCH improved. You have to blind or dumb not to see it. That's why I have zero doubt she's aware of her eating disorder - bc she's OBVIOUSLY working to turn it around. My problem with all these "well meaning" reviews about her lately, is that you all are *so full of yourselves* that you refuse to acknowledge the progress she's made (assuming you even bothered to check before filming). Her channel is not a recovery channel, and that is by choice. She doesn't owe explanations or daily check ins to anyone, and for all you know, it's actually HELPED her recovery bc her entire existence doesn't revolve around making a public spectacle of her private pain & struggle, or burdening herself with the responsibility of having to be a perfect role model to THOUSANDS of people trying to recover from an ed, when progress & recovery is hard enough as it is. Making her channel about her area of expertise is a chance to build not just a community, but self esteem & IDENTITY (ie, she is WAY MORE than just someone with a disorder, and as a fan of hers, I feel these types of reviews that don't acknowledge that, along with the healthy gains she has made, are trying to diminish & reduce her to an ed & make a spectacle of her for easy clicks, views, and likes. You got a view out of me, bc I had to click on this in order to say my piece, but you also got a thumbs down, as I've done for every other one of these reviews popping up in my recommends that refuses to give her credit for how much healthier she is today than she was when she started her channel).

"If she triggers you, then please kindly click off". See, that's the problem. Because she's a dermatologist making skincare focused videos, and she slips blatantly disordered eating into her content for absolutely no reason, as her ED is not relevant to her profession. Cooking and displaying your body in the manner she does is a dog whistle for the ED community; if you have the stomach for it, check out some pro-@na boards and see how she replicates that messaging in her vids. People wanting to know about sunscreen and AHAs shouldn't have to be surprised by cutaways of a shockingly thin person making a diuretic tea (which she's receiving sponsorship for, nonetheless). If she wants to be a dermatologist with an ED, fine. If she wants to be pro-ED on a channel geared towards dermatology, she needs called the fk out.
@KellyBlackwell

these comments are maddening. This dietitian is commenting on Dr Dray’s food choices, not judging her competency as a dermatologist. She mentions ED triggers as she explains having also been through it. The entire point of this “review” is for her to give her professional opinion as a dietitian on whether Dr Dray’s food choices are overall balanced and healthy or cause for concern. Clearly, everyone who has watched Dr Dray for any amount of time (I have followed her for many years) knows she has food issues. I don’t think Ms Abbey is digging at Dr Dray but she’s clearly illustrating WHY some of these meals are not balanced and are a caloric deficit for a person of Andrea’s size, stature and lifestyle. I mean, the objective is clearly stated in the video title. It’s not about judging a person or putting them down, but highlighting and emphasizing both good and bad of this specific diet. Let’s be honest, Dr Dray does not have a well balanced diet and it’s pretty obvious she struggles. It’s important that other people who follow her, do not follow her eating practices and stick to her guidance in the area of dermatology where she is clearly an expert.

Mental health issues among healthcare providers and still very taboo to discuss let alone acknowledge because they are expected to be calm leaders under pressure. 2,000 calories is nothing when she has said before that she works out TWICE a day. I used to obsessively measure my food when I was deep into my eating disorder. I also relied on laxatives. Not diagnosing her or anything, but she is demonstrating orthorexia, anorexia, and bulimia. The shape of her body, like her prominent rib cages, is a physical sign of an eating disorder... and she clearly does look underweight. I’m concerned and I don’t think she should be putting this behavior out in the public. She should strictly stick with skin care because she is an influencer and young or even people her age can get the wrong idea.

IMO, Dr. Dray seems more orthorexic than anorexic. She seems to eat large quantities unlike most anorexics and is concerned with the quality like an orthorexic. For all the people commenting on how “Dr. Gray is a dermatologist and has ‘horrible’ skin” is really kind of naive and rude to say. A lot of people go into a profession not because it’s a perfect aspect in their life, but because they have struggled with it. So basically, most people go into a profession that they’ve struggled with to become INFORMED over their hardship rather than letting it control them. Just how this RU-vidr shared she used to have an eating disorder and is now a Registered Dietitian and promoting HEALTHY eating is a perfect example, but no one is commenting on that. That would be like someone being a lawyer and saying “But you’re a lawyer you can’t be getting speeding tickets!” It’s really crazy to me that people think like that and can be so judgemental rather than praising someone for facing what they struggle with and LEARNING about it and be able to help other people who are going through the same thing. Super triggering to see how negative the world has become.

She actually has amazing skin. She just doesn’t wear makeup which is almost hard to come by these days. So we see “abnormal” when in reality a women not wearing makeup will have horrible discolored, inflamed, red, oily/ or super dry, etc. If you look at the rest of her skin below the neck her face pretty much is 1:1 which is actually a very healthy thing. I know, after I take off my makeup my skin is most of the time a completely different tone than the rest of my skin which is unhealthy. I think she just looks unhealthy in general BECAUSE she is malnourished and very very pale/lifeless because of it. It’s definitely not a skin problem it’s her eating disorder that’s making her skin and her as a whole in general look unhealthy.

The kind of high school gossip criticism I’ve seen of her on the wider internet and on RU-vid is so maliciously cruel and undeserved, and is so hard to understand given the mental components of EDs and how difficult they can be to overcome. Whether Dr Dray has an ED or not, whether she is seeking help or not, she deserves a place on this platform and in society as much as anybody does - whether she ever wants to address her private health publicly or not. Audiences seem to believe they are owed a creators entire inner world, and it’s just not the case - it’s a toxic way to think about people who are brave enough to present themself to the public sphere. Hi there, I, personally, would recommend to opt out of consuming animal products (protein) as animal protein is the cause of nearly all diseases, from gathered information e.g mad cow disease and tuberculosis, that are on the rise. Cows milk, for instance, is for calves not mankind, and it can contain puss and blood, things i do not encourage to consume. Furthermore, fish like wild salmon and tuna ought to be avoided due to radiation in the seas (mercury affecting tuna too). Farmed fish too should be avoided as they may lack nutrients e.g farmed salmon may lack Omega 3 Fatty Acids obtained from algae by wild salmon in the seas. I do encourage to adopt (even if it means making small changes here and there) a well-planned, organic, unrefined and untempered with vegan diet (consuming raw plant foods where possible so as not to denature or destroy the life-forces and enzymatic activities beneficial to the human system. If disagreeing on this matter, please take some steamed carrots, plant them and see if they will grow; if not, it is because they are 'dead' plant food that cannot benefit one's 'living' cells) consisting of organic fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds and whole grains as it is the best diet to provide mankind with ultimate health and longevity. I do not even see a reason to use pharmaceutical supplements e.g Vitamin D is obtainable from organic chestnut mushrooms (UV exposed) and sun-dried mushrooms with the exception of the body's ability to make it (and store it for future use) when exposed to the sun; Iron from organic beets; Zinc from organic cashew nuts; potassium and magnesium from organic bananas; Omega 3 Fatty Acids (beneficial for the brain) from organic walnuts and pecans (looks like the brain and targets it). Please avoid factory produced meat alternatives whose chief ingredient can be 'soy' and may contain preservatives as well as additives (e.g Vinegar, a corrosive agent). Food toxicity and nutrient deficiency are a deadly combination as one is hindering the body's building materials needed to action healing whilst at the same time taxing the system with more toxic stuff, thus bringing about disease and possibly even an early death. Best wishes 💙💙💙

My wife died 3 years ago, at 53, after having anorexia to some extent since childhood. I was her caregiver as she became housebound and finally bedbound before passing. Dr. Dray has so many anorexic traits and reminds me of my wife in that regard; she has the same unhealthy appearance and as well was very intelligent about nutrition; they just can't apply the knowledge in a balanced healthy way. It is a horrific illness, one that is extremely difficult to defeat. It can only be done from within (they must recognize the problem and request professional help); ultimatums and logic do not apply. Anyway, you did a fine job here. I just wish we could help Dr. Dray and others suffering ED... but we cannot, only they can and with extreme and never ending effort at that.

Zuzu Zuzu I'm sorry for not articulating myself better. I'm not happy that Dr Dray is struggling, not at all!! I'm happy because Abbey Sharp is setting the record straight for people who may view these videos and absorb toxic ideas. There's a lot of toxic information out there and I know if I would have discovered Abbey Sharp's videos sooner I might not have fallen prey to some of the incorrect advice given by influencers without the correct credentials to give advice

As a retired head dietician at a leading London hospital for many years.. I have to say, ths woman is borderline anorexic. treated lots like her over the years. Vegans do not eat like this, I know because I am one.
@Hanapetals
@Hanapetals 4 года назад
babavee100 you know, I wonder about the possibility of her actually having some severe chronic illness that she’s just not wanting to disclose (ie: cancer) that’s resulting in cachexia rather than anorexia.

M M so cachexia causes atrophy of not only fat but also muscle and exercising has been shown to help maintain muscle tone to a certain extent. I agree that she should be in taking mainly proteins and fats though. But it won’t stay a mystery that’s for sure, it was cachexia we’d find out in a couple years max anyways 🙈

My Mediterranean ass is *thirsting* for some oil !! I mean I love salads, but to me half the fun of the salad is enjoying the nice vegetables with a good olive or walnut or even hemp oil. Great video as usual, thank you for setting a good example as a health professionnal and being compassionate, as well as not judging people's diets on how thin/fat they look, but just on their diets, I wish more health professionnal did

Same! I'm not Mediterranean, but my favorite dressing is olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Put it on salad mix with red onion, lentils mixed with vegan pesto, avocado, and sauteed red bell pepper, and, "wow!!"😁 it's my favorite salad.

@craisins 86 Her skin doesn't look that great to me to be honest. It doesn't have the moist, supple, glow to it that I would expect from a dermatologist. It looks gray and red and her face looks sunken in.

This is a triggering video. Brings me back. Honestly I am worried about Dr. Dray. Over the years she has become very sickly looking… emaciated and her skin almost has a gray, dead look. She doesn’t look well. I pray she starts eating a more balanced diet.

The insanely high veggie and high fibre meals mixed with the magnesium supplement is concerning. I don’t know if I buy that the Calm supplement is being taken just for the taste. You can buy so many other flavouring options that aren’t as a side note, a laxative. I am a massive fan of Dr Dray, shes one of my favourite RU-vidrs. Thank you for doing this video with class and kindness, unlike a lot of other youtubers.

The Calm is a big red flag. She could just use Crystal Light or Mio etc to flavour her water as she doesn't have an issue with sweeteners. There is clearly an ulterior motive for using it.

I really like that you commented on the volume and amount of veggies/greens because I tended to do that and I had a hard time to keep up with the groceries buying so often. It becomes tiresome after a while.

The neurotic measurements of ingredients and counting out amounts of each nut and berry to achieve her "ideal" serving size is so indicative of a strained relationship with food. I'd be surprised to hear she hasn't suffered from an ED

Exactly. A discreet way of promoting anorexia and bulimia. Her videos convey this message: "I'm a doctor and my weight and eating habits are acceptable". And she blocks any comment that suggests otherwise. Also, her skin is zombie-like grayish translucent! She does not look healthy at all! And her overall energy is really heavy. I feel arrogance, anxiety and a strong need of control in her. If I watch her videos, I just don't feel good. In fact, I can't even get myself to finish watching any of her videos. And if she is not working at the hospital nor taking appointments anymore, why is she wearing doctor's scrubs and talking about her patients as if she was still working there? There's a lot wrong there.
