Hi everyone, welcome to Abbey's Kitchen! In today’s highly requested episode of RU-vidr reviews, we’re going to be taking a look at Sorelle Amore's highly restrictive and controversial "dietary nutrition guidelines".
A few disclaimers:
1) The information in this video is for education and entertainment purposes only, so you should always speak to a health care provider about your unique health needs.
2) The recommendations for each individual meal I review is designed to give you a variety of ideas on how to optimize meals for balance, variety and satiety. Whether or not one individual meal or even one day is balanced or “healthy” does not matter in the grand scheme of ones health, especially if a person is eating in response to their physical and emotional needs. I give suggestions as examples and inspiration for you, but you can also gather this data for yourself over time by listening to your own body and figuring out what feels good.
2) Please be kind in the comments, here and on Sorelle's channel
3) TRIGGER WARNING: some graphics and discussions may be disturbing to some viewers so feel free to skip this video.
4) Don’t forget to subscribe to this channel and ring the little bell so you never miss out!

b Sorelle claimed anything not naturally occurring is toxic. The ingredients in Article Fox are not naturally occurring and she couldn't get her black hair blue without bleaching it first. Also Artic Fox isn't even "non toxic". It has chemicals just like every other hair dye. Sure they leave out some of the harsher chemicals but all hair dye is "non toxic". You aren't allowed to sell toxic products for people to put on their bodies. Toxicity is related to dosage of ingredients, not specific ingredients themselves. Water is toxic if you have enough of it.

@@b8665 Considering she seems overly fixated with the idea of "pure" and "organic"... with those standards, even arctic fox hair dye would be considered toxic. There is no such thing as truly non-toxic hair dye, all chemicals used in arctic fox are what would be registered as "no significant toxicity" yet that does not mean zero toxicity... just means it's not toxic enough to pose a real threat to your health, especially when used as indicated.

This! It drives me crazy when people say that. Fruit, meat, and, later grains, are obviously the main sources of food we would eat. Growing enough veggies to fuel ourselves for a day is extremely difficult. Even with our fancy cultivated varieties with less seed and more edible portion. Grains and fruit are far more nutrient dense, easier to grow (fruit at least), and easier to preserve. Its obvious that those are likely our primary forms of nutrition.

I'm confused. She says eating fruit is not natural if one does not live close to the equator, so does she suggest everything one eats should be local. A lot of the things she eats aren't naturally occurring in Iceland. By her logic, it is not natural for anyone in Iceland to eat coconut oil, tapioca flour or basically any fresh vegetables during winter months. They are all imported from areas closer to the equator. Is she promoting traditional Icelandic diet, the one the Vikings ate? Does her diet consist of cod, ammonia (urine) preserved shark, sheep, sheep blood sausage? In Iceland not that many vegetables grow naturally.

That's what I was thinking , we are not here to shame or nothing this is just a discussion , I get her point of consuming locally grown and native produce to the country or area you live in , I live by this because this is what my parents and grandparents did for years . I believe it evolutionary makes sense . But she lives in iceland and like you said that country has so little resources the natives live on fat and meat because , the old natives had to survive and adjust to the cold harsh atmosphere , fat and protein are key sources to store energy needed for survival . At least she should've applied what she preaches.

sorelle "acknowledging her privilege" to buy organic is the equivalent of a backhanded compliment because she attaches it with saying she can buy organic "with the money she works hard for." this is essentially making the argument that if people worked hard they would also have the privilege of buying organic. this just is a terribly flawed rhetoric. I am a college student who works hard to pay for 100% of my college via a job while maintaining a 4.0 GPA in my honors program. While I have money, I would be sacrificing my education or living space or luxuries (ie phone, internet) to pay 2-3x as much for an organic version. And that's me, a middle class american with access! imagine all of the people in less opportune circumstances or locations. I'm just so tired of the equal opportunity fallacy.

On the topic of *organic*, here in Ohio, over half the state is farmland. I’ve worked with many farmers at my last job and several used to be *organic*. They only need to pass an inspection by a percentage in order to be considered an “organic farm”.Not only that, when they go to have future inspections to keep their *organic* label, inspectors pretty much just do a questionnaire style approach and don’t even tour the farm or check the crops. Yes, many farmers have lied. Why? Because they are struggling severely in the farming industry and this entire organic movement is their lifeline. They use techniques to safeguard their crops that are not considered *organic*, but they’re able to sell at a higher price since people will pay more if they believe the product is ‘healthier’. This isn’t to point blame at the dishonesty of farmers, but so many farmers are taking their lives because they cannot survive when they try to make an honest buck. If you want to truly eat organic, grow your own garden....then you’ll see how difficult it is to manage.

I did this for nearly four months and definitely began to taste the sweetness in things that had previously tasted bitter to me which was nice, but my cravings for delicious milk chocolate did not diminish at all ! I don't think my brain was retrained. I kept this up until late April when my birthday came around. I allowed myself to eat whatever my heart desired on my birthday and just like you mentioned when I was exposed to sugary treats I literally couldn't stop. I ate most of an ENTIRE nutella birthday cake to myself with a whole tub of ice cream and all kinds of chocolate biscuits and sugary treats throughout the day. I had never eaten that much before in my entire life, I still don't really understand what happened to me that day. I decided that I was not going to be able to maintain a sugar-free life forever without risking huge sugar binges once in a while like my birthday, so now I let myself have sugary treats whenever I fancy and so I only ever want them in moderation. Since I accepted that it's ok to have a sweet tooth I've felt much happier. A balanced approach is the best for me. The vendetta against sugar needs to stop ! You can have a healthy diet whilst still enjoying sugary foods ! :)

You just reminded me of when I made this amazing chocolate cake and pretty much ate 3-4 servings of it a day until it was gone. It was good and It wasn't like I binged it in one sitting (it was spread over 2 weeks). But it was during the time I was trying to lose weight and restricting some of my food. Even when I was trying to eat less sugar, I didn't crave it any less and even more so when I could have it. I don't stop myself when I do want some sweets now, but I eat a far more moderate amount and freeze portions for later rather than eat a whole chocolate cake myself, basically.

I agree, strict sugar free diet is too restrictive. I personally consume sugary foods in moderation. If I want can of coke once a while I allow myself to have it, but I won't have it every day or several times a day. Or I know that cereal contains a lot of added sugar and I simply don't eat it for breakfast, sometimes I have a bowl for desssert. But checking every label for sugar content is exhausting. Everything in moderation is the best rule.

Gina Di Vito you can enjoy sweet foods/treats without consuming cane sugar, or other sugars that add empty calories and spike blood sugar. Plenty of options....Monk Fruit sweetener, stevia, Erythritol, xylitol. Chocolate is a deadset Superfood. NO, not in the form it's available on a supermarket shelf. Buy your own 100% Organic cacao nibs (or powdered form) and make your own chocolates with cacao butter, Grass Fed butter, or coconut oil. If you're not intolerant to dairy, make your own killer hot chocolate with the same ingredients. Even small amounts of Coconut sugar and Manuka honey are fine in yogurts, kefir, smoothies etc... There is zero requirement for simple processed sugar in your diet with so many healthy alternatives.

While not defending such a restrictive diet or her reasons behind it There is at least a kernel of logic in eschewing fresh exotic produce like the fruit, but not necessarily exotic processed ingredients like coconut flour. It comes down to the environmental cost of transporting fresh produce from the other side of the world in a timeframe and under conditions that means it is not a rotting lump of halfcomposted organic matter when it reaches the consumer, ie has to be flown there in environmentally controlled containers. And commonly have a higher degree of food waste involved as not all of it makes the journey in a fit to sell condition. Vs a much more shelf stable product that you could in essence stick on an oxcart then on a sailboat and it would still be ok when it arrived a year later.

If it wasnt clean it was toxic and I would fast and purge if I ate things that weren't included in my religion. Of course then I fixated, binged and purged in a cycle that nearly broke me. I'll never forget crying and eating boxes of cakes in the rain cause I couldnt help myself with my 'addiction'. Through wellness food had become toxic to me. Her language is very dangerous. I feel like she started with the belief that all people should have access to food and clean water as a human right, but then just veered off into extreme restriction. Never mind proximity to the equator, there are some parts of world, such as indigenous communities in northern Canada where it is so cold that nothing ever grows and the majority of their food is what they can fish and what is canned or boxed and can be transported and stored easily. They still deserve to have access to fruits and vegetables, and increased technology allowing us to flash freeze and ship food allows that to happen. Also, just a mini rant, I started a soap and body product shop with my mom and the more research I do and look into the way that people sell certain things, the words "natural" and "clean" and "pure" mean absolutely nothing. They're all just unregulated marketing terms and should not influence our health or stop us from doing any further research on our own!

The argument about our bodies supposedly not being 'adapted' for certain types is incredibly irritating and, quite frankly, total bs. I'm an anthropologist and one of my college courses was centered wholly around the human diet and how it has evolved, how we limit it, and nonsense claims about it (particularly the so-called 'Paleo Diet'). There is absolutely no reason to attempt to eat like our prehistoric ancestors did for so many reasons--major ones are that a) we don't really know what they ate (plus, food varied tremendously based on things like local/seasonal available and timeframe), and b) literally all of the food we have access to today would be unrecognizable to prehistoric hominins because it's evolved and been altered by people over hundreds (and in some cases thousands) of years. Major yikes that she implied that we shouldn't eat grains because we're not 'ready' for them.

don't know where this notion that our ancestors were healthier comes from. Even ignoring the difference in life expectancy, look at archaeological discoveries around the globe in difference eras - they've found signs of heart disease everywhere. I'm curious on the fasting research, but even if something comes of it, my postcholecystectomy digestion makes it a non-starter.

Abbey!! Can you pleaaase make a video on how to buy meat?? I am SO confused about Organic, Grass Fed, Vegetarian Fed, Vegetarian Diet, etccc!! When I go to whole foods is fine because they usually carry organic AND grass fed at the same time! But in most other stores, is one or the other... and when it’s just vegetarian fed, I just have no clue if that’s the same as grass fed or if it’s just a marketing strategic word 😓

Vegeterian fed means that it is fed mostly grains and that it is from conventional factory farm (if organic is not stated directly) 😵 If you want grass-fed and organic, both must be declared on package. If there is only organic it does not have to be grass-fed only, but it can mean that it is fed organic grains and sometimes the animals can be outside and have grass (however, definitely better than factory farmed!!) . I.e.organic does not equal grass-fed (it can, but you should ask the farm...but if it is not stated it is not probable)
