@@TheOneAndOnlyZeno It would probably be Handel, though many already consider him as such. Buxtehude will always be one of my favourite ever Baroque composers, and I think many of his organ works can stand up next to those of Bach and hold their own.
@@MrGar11 I am not sure anyone knows, however, the titles of 8 Abendmusiken (large scale Oratorios) by Buxtehude are known - and all of them lost..... BuxWV 128 - Die Hochzeit des Lammes / Und die Freudenvolle Einholung der Braut zu derselben (lost) BuxWV 129 - Das allerschröcklichste und Allererfreulichste, nemlich Ende der Zeit und Anfang der Ewigkeit (lost) BuxWV 130 - Himmlische Seelenlust auf Erden (lost) BuxWV 131 - Der verlorene Sohn (lost) BuxWV 132 - Hundertjähriges Gedicht (lost) BuxWV 133 - Die Abendmusiken des Jahres 1700 BuxWV 134 - Castrum Doloris (lost) BuxWV 135 - Templum Honoris (lost)
The same for me. Buxtehude should be just as revered today as he was during his lifetime. Without his stylus fantasticus, the works of his successors would have been far poorer.
Brilliant! I always considered myself as moderately familiar with Buxtehude's best organ works, but this has taken me by surprise! The level of genius and creativity in this work stunned me enough to distract me from writing.
This is a tremendous piece. May we know the organ used? I think you are playing from the Hedar/ Hansen edition. Right? I very much like the unity of tempo and your pedalling bb120ff and b133ff where you succeed in achieving a good cantabile like a continuo bass. Not easy in these bars. Tasteful use of rhetorical gestures, allargando and ornamentation.
would somebody be able to explain why this is in F#? was it tranposed on purpose, or is an organ tuning issue? Just curious as it seems like I see it a lot on Organ music.
@@MrGar11 Is that Russian, German, and English? How come you know Armenian? (I ask because I am a linguist, and seeing people use foreign languages always fascinates me).
I’ve enjoyed this beautiful piece many times but in June 2, 2023 it is destroyed by two episodes of intrusive and noisy ads. So sad. I have to withdraw my “like”.
