No one wakes up begging for a criminal record. 🙅
But it happens.🤷
Sometimes it could be a mistake, or lapse in judgment, or other times you think you just won’t get caught.😣
If you get charged with a crime, regardless of the outcome, you’ll still end up with a criminal record.
Even if your case is dropped, dismissed, or you are found not guilty at trial, your name will still appear in criminal record searches. 🔎
But you can wipe the slate clean 🧼 by having your record sealed or expunged.
Unfortunately, a lot of people don't understand the difference between the two.

I reside in Ohio. I had a petty theft record sealed 25 years ago. Recently, I apply for a job at a senior citizen facility. They ran a background check on me, the record showed up. The employer could see it plain as day. I researched, discovered any jobs dealing with the elderly or children, ie schools, can see sealed records. Really, what’s the point of getting my record sealed if prospective employees can see it? I was frustrated.

if it seal then no they can't see it you're good to go. Only place that will check that seal record is, if you're applying for a security clearance or military enlist they can see those record if they have a good reason why. But you're good !

That’s a really good point. There are many states that have exceptions to what can and cannot be accessed in a sealed record. Some of those exceptions apply to working in nursing homes, working with children, etc. I would definitely consider doing a follow up video to address your concern. Stay strong and keep searching!

No. Once it's expunged for example a domestic violence case, get it expunged then after it's on record obtain the copy and send to fbi with your prints and nics number cuz it can take a year for it to go into place even though it has been expunged

Frustrating when you didn't even hurt someone and your labeled as a pos and lose your 2nd amendment. In MD it's 15 years before you can expunge or hire a lawyer. Go to clerk of court and file a motion for expung. Remember they cant give you legal dvice

Every state’s laws are different. You will probably want to talk to an expungement lawyer in Texas to get the most answer.

This is something that you definitely need to talk to an attorney in your state about. Certain criminal charges can affect your ability to carry a firearm in the future.

Yes . Any state job will still be able to see it . Just not the public or regular job.

Hello Taste of Aroma, thanks for watching! This is actually going to depend on the laws of your state. Some states allow for expungements where the record is completely destroyed and in other states, law-enforcement officers can still keep a copy of an expunged record. You probably need to look up the effect of an expunged record in your state, and whether you have to disclose an expunged record for police academy applications.

The word “expungement” is a universal and broad word. It can apply to juveniles under 18 and it can also apply to adults, depending on what the laws of the state require.

The expungement laws may affect you differently if you were not a US citizen when you got charged. If my charges got dismissed and I just got them expunged because i missed court so every time I try and get a truck driving job those missed court dates shows up for some reason ,how long does it take to not to show up on your background check well in my case my mvr report

Hi, and thank you for watching! Every state has their own set of laws that tell you how long it should take to fully seal a record once a judge orders the record to be sealed. In DC for example, prosecutors offices, and law-enforcement typically have 90 days to certify that the record has been sealed.

If you've been arrested for a crime, then there is an arrest record whether or not the case later gets dismissed. You may want to speak with someone about whether the state that you were arrested in has automatic expungements or not.

Hello there, and thanks for watching! You may need to talk to an immigration attorney first to see if expunging your record is going to help your citizenship application in the way that you desire. If so, definitely reach out to an expungement attorney in your state.
