Woodworking Grandma here....I have both! AND LOVE my Ryobi tools. I am so glad you explained this to everyone. Yes, you do need both! I cannot imagine being without either of them. Also glad you explained the reason for the special bits. I only buy what I need because I usually only use the impact for certain things but l so glad it is ready to go for the job. Thank you for your videos!

Excellent tip on pocket hole screws, I found out by trial that its best to use a drill driver as opposed to impact driver, thanks.

I love tools, just don't need them because I don't do that much building. Thank you for this video.

I have to agree with getting and using an impact driver! I don't use my drill unless I have to make a hold now lol

Great Video, and the answer, like most... "It depends!" I do like the drill/impact combo. I can switch between drilling a pilot hole and driving in the fastener quickly. However, I do use the impact driver for pocket holes, but there is a caveat as you said: I have to exercise a real light touch so I don't do blow the screw through and have a protruding screw and ruin my pocket hole joint and project... I am very aware that an impact driver _will_ do this so I've developed a knack for doing it. That said... However... I think a beginner might have some trouble because, like you said, it doesn't offer a lot of feedback when it's about to torque the heck out of the screw and punch through... The clutch on the drill offers better protection (if used properly), and I would a drill w/ a clutch that for a furniture project that I don't want to ruin with a screw blowing through the fine finish (Argh!!!)... but it really comes down to experience and getting to know your tools, understanding the application it's being used in (context) my shop projects have a low-bar anyway... but the benefit of NOT having to switch bits back and forth is a huge timesaver! (I could use two drills for this if necessary...) Anyway I know your video was addressing only so much and the subtleties and nuances like these isn't possible to cover... Thanks for the video I look forward to more of them!

Hey Ray, you have some great points. I have to admit I have also used the impact for a few pocket screws in tight locations, but as yourself I was super careful.

So so so right.......bottom line......a pilot hole is pretty much .......the way to go

Impact driver will drill the hole but.....a drill is just safer ......the impact is the bandaid and the drill is the ointment

I have both and love being able to switch from drilling to driving without switching bits. It is so much faster especially with my skill at dropping bits on the floor. ;-)

Ok, I feel like a dumbass because I didn't realize the ratcheting my Impact does was supposed to happen...I was just figuring it was struggling and wasn't strong enough to get the screw in 🙄 I am now enlightened. Thank you.

Hi PJ, please do not feel bad because you did not know. I promise you there are many others who were thinking the same thing. At least now you can get the most out of your impact driver.

@@SpecificLove7 it's true, I will use the impact driver more now that I realize its not a weak, fragile thing. Plus good to know about the power behind it for those smaller screws, too!

Are the Ryobi brand of tools shown in the video any good? Are they worth the money
@SpecificLove7
@SpecificLove7 2 года назад
Ryobi is definitely a good Intro brand because they are affordable and have a variety of tools for the same battery. But if you plan on using your tools several hours a day, everyday, I've been told by many builders to buy a better quality brand.

There was no magnet in that hex chuck. You were using a bit without a locking groove on the shank.

I have never used the swivel bit. It's still a little hard for me to get my head around the concept because I feel that it would cause more cam-out. Maybe one of these days I will get one.

Another reason to use the drill on small screws is the clutch set to keep from driving too far. - Chris

Don't forget impact wrenches too.

The size has nothing to do with the clutch. The impact has a hammer and anvil which does essentially the same thing.

An impact driver used to drill a hole can tear up the hole. Don't do that. Right tool for the right job.

Not too much pressure. Too much torque.

Don't drive screws with the drill if you have an impact. Your wrists will thank you.
