2BCProductions2BC in my opinion I want consistency, especially in franchise. I want mcdavid, kuch to consistently be in to 5 in points. I want Ove to have 30+ goals per season. Another way to get sick players for nothing is while your a contender, trade for players at the draft that have expiring contract. I have stopped cause it’s way to easy. And I want it to be hard. I always change ratings before I start a new franchise just to mix it up because it’s pretty repetitive. Also playing for more that 6-7 years your chances to win the cup go up dramatically because the a.i doesn’t know how to develop, make smart trades. (Bubble teams record wise but the have (contender, champion) trading there picks for 83,84. EAs AI is brutal in gameplay and not in gameplay. It’s a JOKE. Still love hockey tho so I guess I’ll still play till the day I die😡
Johnny, do a sim with Chemistry. Try a use an awful team but perfect chemistry. Then take that same team but have it be perfect chemistry and see what happens
I actually think the quick sim data is very encouraging for the sim engine. You definitely want some variance, as you said the NHL has somewhat of an unpredictable element to it. But TB still made the playoffs all 3 years and the right players had good seasons. In my opinion, this data supports a pretty reliable quick sim engine.
@NicoTimeYT True, but with other quick sims in other games, like it’s sister game, Madden, the stats can be all over the place. A 74 ovr QB can have an MVP year while a great QB like Aaron Rodgers will throw 25 interceptions.You need that consistency to make it realistic, and any changes to the consistency must be explainable
In some ways, I do like the randomness. Think of it this way: each season is a different universe. In one universe, Stamkos is scoring at will and in another he can’t put a puck in to save his life. I understand it’s a video game and the better team “on paper” should win, but in hockey it’s pure randomness and you never know how the puck will bounce. It is annoying when you make this “god squad” and still come up short but that’s what makes the game mode so entertaining.... it shouldn’t be easy to win the cup it should be difficult, which makes it even sweeter when you win. Last year, Tampa Bay got swept by Columbus and we all know Tampa was the better team, but that’s hockey. I’m not saying this game’s sim is perfect, but it’s interesting how it works.
Chandler Armstrong yeah i agree, but than again. I have put together theese “god squads” year after year. And they suck in the playoffs anyways. I love the randomnes aspect of it, but surely the best team in the regular season should make the finals atleast once right?(speaking from my expirience)
There’s also options in the rules section of the menu that has a setting for simming goal frequency. Setting to higher or lower based on how many goals you want. Not sure what Johnny has his set at but it would be interesting to see how this also affects the sim engine.

I think a reason you are seeing the disparity between the two styles of sim is that real time sim takes the "Attribute Effect" slider into consideration which defaults to 5 out of 10 I think. With attributes muted you would see more randomness than with it not being used. I would be interested to see if you put it at 8 or 9 if you would get the same in-game sim results, same for having it at 0.
From what I learned working on the game years ago... Quick time Sim is based on overall stats of your team. Offense, Defense, and Goalie. Those are weighted and then RNG takes over. Real-Time sim takes individual players overall stats and applies them as the Sim goes on with RNG. They could have changed it.
If the quick-sim goes by just offense, defense and the goalie. I think that the results between the quick sim and real-time would differ way more than in this 4 season example. Considering that the real time sim takes into consideration pp's, all 4 lines, etc. If the quick-sim just compares the team stats and rolls the dice, then how does the engine determine which players get the most points? Or why does the 3rd/4th line pwf have 25 goals? That stuff. There's definitely more to quick-sim than just offense, defense and goaltending.
Look at the Atlantic in year 3, the whole division was horrible. I would love to see how the metro played because the leafs missed the playoffs and buffalo won the the division with 45 wins and 96 pts
I have done many and I mean many real time sims during the playoffs/ regular season. And what I have found is you will get that odd season where your 90+ overall goalie is lights out (and he will completely shit the bed the following season/ playoff), but I say majority of the time, my 90+ goalie plays like shit, where as my back up goalie will put up an .930ish save percentage in the real time playoff sim. I also find that when that said 90+ goalie drops in rating to about 85-87ish he plays way better. Also, if you have a good backup goalie with starter or elite potential, your starting goalie will play god awful through out the season and playoffs, to the point where you literally have to trade him. I don't know what it is...
Feel like these tests would have more weight if you put more time in and had a larger sample size, like 10 years of each method with the stats averaged out would be much more scientfic
@@omarantar408 If his goal is to actually draw conclusions and base his future thinking in NHL franchise videos on these results then absolutely, making sure that the sample size is large enough to draw statistically significant conclusions is an important part of doing things like this
Powerplays are jank as hell, I'll sim one season and my first line will be all 30+ powerplay points each and then the next year they'll all get half as much
Sample size unfortunately. I know the real time takes forever but to make anything substantial as far as findings you'd need a higher sample size. Interesting stuff though
Johnny just look at when you do period sims for your playoffs in GM mode. Almost every game starts with a power play in the first 5 or so minutes. It’s almost as if the game forces it to happen
Honestly I think the game has a randomness factor for both sims and it probably changes for the playoffs. The NHL has some of the most random playoffs of the big sport leagues.
if player development is persistent (as in it can't be turned off in the settings) then i can see how there's such large variance in standings sim-to-sim. seeing the Sabres in 1st place after the 3rd sim stands out to me with regards to player development because of their, like, eight 22-year-old and younger Med Elite+ players hitting their strides in unison
I usually prefer the low scoring. The team stats are a bit weird like better teams are barely at 3 GPG. But stats are better for players imo. Players like MacKinnon, Crosby, McDavid are all top 5 for points consistently. There isn’t an abundance of 100+ point scorers (which is my preference) but the guys listed above usually crack that mark consistently. Also, better goalies like Bishop, Vasy, Feury are all around .930 Save% and around 2.4 GAA. The stats just looks better and feel better with Low Scoring in my opinion.
I don't know if this is true but I feel like in real time sim, like you do for the playoffs, I think their are more penalties which leads to more powerplays and so on.
I find goalies no matter what their overall is, they can have a lights out season but their ability in the playoffs is entirely dependant on their poise. Off the top of my head I don't know his rating but I think thats why you had issues with Rask in Boston. Their poise and consistency rating are the "advanced stats" I believe you should be looking at for goalies.
I like the randomness, it’s not very fun if you get the same results every time. However I think the randomness shown in the quick sim is a little too much. I mean you had a 26 point difference between season 1 and 3 when everything else was the same.
Do you think Team Morale has anything to do with the big swings in the regular season? Was morale on or off? If the team starts losing with it on, it could have a domino effect and start compounding upon itself. Possibly a reset for the playoffs?
Honestly, Im pretty sure the real time sim cheats using powerplays against. In my Gm mode with Detroit, I have an absolutely stacked offense that sims really well together, 4 presidents trophies in a row 3 cups in 4 years. But I noticed that when my team would be down in a game, like with your boston gm mode, the other team would get like 10 minutes straight of penalties. Like the game decides to even it out for the worse team, and it happens a lot. At least a game or two a series. So I think its pure RNG until its not lol
I also really do think theres a difference between real time sim (going times 1-8) and the real time quick sim (skipping through periods). The RTQS I'm pretty sure is the same as the quick sim just with the story entwined
