We used to sell these, the first one looks like a earlier model of the small version, the second one(blue) is looks like a later version of the same, they had made, i think three the basic, HP and HP12, the HP 12 had two carbs the hp had one basic one i want to say it had like a smaller twin on it, they were built for the Florida everglade's
Greetings from the Worlds Largest Six Pack, (i recognized somethings in the video lol) How hard would running these year round there for supplies to a boathouse? (Preferably if one could get ahold of some type of full cabin covering)
I ran the blue Scat 2 year round, only up keep would be different jet sizes for the carb for drastic weather changes ( I ran it on 100°F summers to 0°F winters), and skirt segments. Don't add any covering, Scats unless modified with a Rotax 503 struggle with weight and adding any covering is not worth the lack of performance due to increased weight. Think of a Scat like an old underpowered jet ski, it won't win any speed contests and are annoyingly loud, but if you want a single seat joy ride or cruising around to enjoy the scenery, it will get the job done.
@jwish29 dang, so if a covering alone is a weight issue. It would have to be many small trips of low weight to supply anything. Food, water, ect. Cheapest new Rotax engine i can find is $6k. The Rotax plane engines are insane pricey, so that's out. Meh, gonna keep a googling. Thanks!
Yeah, they are the same. Rumor has it, Hovercraft Depot is working on a supplier to make the skirts since they no longer make them. British Hovercraft Company will make them too, not sure on cost to the states though.
Hi! I'm interested in knowing what years the Scat 1 and 2 were made for in production, as I noticed it was used in the Miami Vice Action Spectacular stunt show in Universal Studios Hollywood, there's many footage I have of the show itself, from 1987-1995 and would like your take on which hovercraft they used, if that's ok.
Found a video from '94, it was a Scat 2 with a two cylinder engine, probably a Cuyuna. Main two give aways are the engine is centered in the duct due to it having a gear box where Scat 1's the engines were mounted to the floor and belt driven, and the transition from hull to duct is swept where a Scat 1 is more of a harsh transition.
@@jwish29 thank you! It also looks like there was a guard where the engine is for one of the stuntmen to hold onto during the sequence of its use, I can see if I can direct you to the earlier 80s version if you'd like, but thank you for your information!
scat 2 is a rotax 277? and is that a 503 on the scat 1? what are your power differences like? id assume you probably perfer the more power for the better performance.
My Scat 1 in this video is a poor example. Scat 1's were belt driven powered by a Rotax 277, but a previous owner of mine installed a Scat 2 engine mount allowing a gear box drive set up. It had a Cuyuna engine on it. The best upgrade for a Scat is probably the rotax 503, but I don't believe any came stock with that engine, I think the largest stock engine was a Cuyuna UL430 which was on the Scat 2 HP.
They are rated at 350lbs, but most scats with a Rotax 277, I wouldn't go more than 250lbs total and would try to stay as light as you can. If you have a larger powerplant you can probably go up to the 350 lbs, but that is the max I would go as it probably won't float beyond that much weight. Max I have gone was a 40 mile cruise with the blue Scat 2 and that was all 6 gallons.
Just picked up a Scat model 2 with a rotax 277. Engine cranks and idles and revs up but no thrust forward, don’t know much about them and I’m wondering if the fan layout is wrong
Get a tiny tach to see engine rpm. If at full throttle you are in the 5800-6200 rpm range then the fan is matched well. The load the fan puts on the engine is a natural rpm governor, if it revs too high you need to increase blade pitch, and if your rpm is too low you need to reduce blade pitch. If fan is good and it's not moving forward that means you aren't getting enough lift. Check your skirts. If they are bad or not attached correctly then all the lift air is escaping instead of hovering the craft.

I believe they were "Wing Fan" but can be upgraded now with "Hascon fan" or "Multi Wing". As for blades I am not sure on all but I believe the most common was 6 blades on a 12 blade hub.
Hard to say. Average market that I have seen lately for a ready to hover craft is about $3500, and that's checking FB marketplace and Craigslist for the entire US. Personally I think that's a little high, but there aren't many out there, and with appearances on big RU-vid channels, the demand could grow. If I found a decent hull for under $500 I might become interested making a build out of it.
Check craigslist or offerup or Facebook marketplace. But be willing to drive. The blue Scat I drove 8 hours one way to pick up, the yellow was about 4 hours one way, I have a camouflage scat 2 that was about 4 hours one way drive, and my current UH-13P was 5 hours one way drive. But maybe you'll be lucky and have one closer to you.
Scats running could be anywhere from $1500-6000 depending condition. Add ons are red flags as Scats are already on the heavy side for size and power so any weight dragging add ons should not increase value. Anything over $6000 should stay away, no matter the condition they shouldn't be worth that. Cost of a new skirt from hovercraft depot is between $500-615 as of March 2023.
