Your dogs are so beautiful! I had heard that the Welshies were more reserved then the English, it was interesting to have you speak about it. We have an English Springer puppy right now, her name is Ruby, she is 10 months old. She is a liver, tri, roan. I got her from a breeder closer to my home. Her sire is from your kennel. So, the Welsh are still very loving, happy and friendly, not mobbing visitors that come in, but taking a little time to become comfortable. They sound absolutely delightful. You all have such a great way with your dogs. At some point in the future I would like to bring one home, but right now I am at the limit for dogs in our municipality. Thank you for making all these great videos, I have thoroughly enjoyed watching each one.
Thank you Sherri! They for sure are more reserved. They're SO SO sweet though. You are so welcome for the videos. Thank YOU for faithfully checking them out and commenting. It is VERY encouraging to us and is why we do them.
I think I have rewatched this clip over 100 times😊 I recently separated from my fiancé and her sister had a Welch named Greta and we more or less became like close relatives to her. There are so many scenes in this clip that reminds me of her: always playing around the house, spontaneously hiding behind the couch (why always the couch??), and all the love that they give you who are close. Especially the last thing struck me. I grew up with different breeds of terriers when I was a child and they were all great dogs. But with the Welch, I don’t think I have felt so close to a dog on a personal level. The way they look at you and want to be around you, whether you play with them or you work at the computer and they lie beside you and observe you. Such nice dogs❤
Finally, I've been looking all over the place for English vs welsh temperament comparisons but nothing good ever comes up. So I'm glad to find this video.
Glad I could help! In hindsight, if we were to do it again we would have one of our English on camera as well for a visual reference. Hopefully you got the answers you were looking for!
@@OSheaSpringers i've heard the welshie's hips are lower than their shoulders and opposite is true for springers. i've had field bred and bench bred springers and their differences are striking.
I have had three Cocker Spaniels and loved them all dearly. I still miss them. All wonderful, kind and great temperament. I am considering buying a Welsh Springer Spaniel puppy, perhaps two. :)
Thanks for both of the English vs Welsh Springer Spaniel comparison videos, and the male vs female video. It would be great to also see it from the opposite perspective with a video on the ideal English Springer Spaniel owner vs the ideal Welsh Springer Spaniel owner to help decide which I as a prospective owner I most resemble, to help me and other prospective owners identify which Springer Spaniel we would be most suited for. Even better if as an extra twist, the English/Welsh/male/female consideration was also thrown into the mix. That’s if the ideal owner for each variant can be identified.
Hi guys. I just saw that you had to take down the other website. I’m saddened by this. I looked for all the photos and Greta stories posted by everyone. Please know lots f us are out here praying that things work out and you’ll be up and running very soon! All the best. 🙋♀️🙏🏻💕💕💕🇺🇸
Oooh' your video so reminds me of my Welsh Springer Tammy. Thanks for posting this beautiful vid. Arent they simply lovely? Its 30 yers ago now but i always think of her, my Tammy. I used to groom her myself (except for her nails, but they were never in need of attention as she went everywhere with me). You are obviously very proud of your springers, as you should be - they're smashing. Regards, Dave x
Great looking dogs. So cute and didn't know they were smaller than ESS. We have two English Springers! Jeff, our (nearly) adult boy can be a bit overwhelming to people who don't want attention. He is very persistent if you do not acknowledge him. He also gets over excited when greeted and sometimes happy pees... His goal when playing with other dogs is to annoy as much as possible so they will chase him. Jeff is about 45lbs. Our new little pup, Jerry, seems much different though. Very calm and snuggly. Jeff had an overwhelming energetic personality from the start, but I suppose Jerry could still develop one later on! Jerry came from the biggest parents at the breeder, so he will likely be 55-60lbs. I have a bunch of videos of Jeff on my channel, but not enough of Jerry! He's 4 months today. Cheers!
Thanks for the comment! I watched a couple of your videos. Cute dogs! Yes Jerry looks more submissive than Jeff for sure. They look like they are more field than show/bench. That would explain the extra energy!
They’re gorgeous. I had a female for 15 years and although beset with allergy issues had incredible stamina. I’m trying to get another but have so far not been successful.
Yes they're both fantastic breeds. Did you have a Welsh or an English Springer? I'm assuming Welsh based on the difficulty of finding one. They're much more rare than English.
lovely dogs. Our Welshie is 12 years old. btw Welshies were also used for herding animals. Smallholders couldn't afford two specialist dogs so they had one that could hunt and herd - it definitely explains some of their behaviour (e.g. barking a lot)
Hey Ian! Thanks for watching. That's great information and not something that we had heard before. Thank you. I'll have to do some more searching for info on that. Thanks again.
Lovely dogs, I had a Welsh SS 40 years ago when I still lived in Wales. One thing I've noticed whenever I see a video of an English SS in the US is that they all seem to have the markings that your Remy has (in another video with all the dogs) ie a continuous dark coat from just behind the shoulders right back to the tail, something most unusual in British SS. Have US breeders introduced this deliberately? That said, your other English SS seemed more like the British version. Looks like you breed the working variety right? I don't like the look of the show version.
That's great! A TRUE Welsh Springer Spaniel you had then. Yes I would agree that there is a lot more white markings in British spaniels than in North America. Our lines are from Czech and Poland. The Roaning comes from European bloodlines. From what I have read they don't really differentiate between field lines and bench/show. It's a mixture. So that said, our lines are a mix. Not straight show and definitely not straight field.
I wonder if we're distantly related!? We have had two working-variety WSSs in Australia, and wouldn't have any other kind of dog. Tails never stopped wagging.
Love animals but especially Springer spaniels they are the best dogs in the world we used to have a bench liver and white female and a male Springer spaniel I will be looking for another two Female bench Springer spaniel next year, as my babies have crossed over the rainbow. bridge. I live in the USA but would love to know more about what you offer and would love to get a look at your English Springer spaniel breeding stock Even though I have no interest in breeding. PS I am a new subscriber and I think that you and your Fur babies are adorable
Thanks for following along on our channel Judy! Feel free to have a look at our webpage www.osheaspringers.com if you'd like. It has pictures of our dogs and past puppies and testimonials etc etc. Thanks for subscribing! That means so much to us.
They're very majestic looking aren't they! More and more people are wanting them natural these days. We love to be able to give our families the option.
We have been able to. It's all about training. They do get attached to you but we have found that having them used to us leaving the house has helped. It makes it more normal for them.
I love how your Welshies are groomed. They look great. Do you groom them yourself? If you do, would you pretty, pretty, please post a tutorial about grooming Welshies?
Oh that's awesome! They are fantastic people! Red was about 8 months there. We made this video around a month ago or so. Whereabouts are you from? Alberta? Thanks for watching our videos!
Beautiful dogs! I'm finally researching breeds after losing my beloved Parson Russell Terrier almost 2 years ago, it's taken me this long. I was actually at a dog show today-I'm in Ohio, and I've met wonderful breeders of both the Welsh and English Springer Spaniel. It's just me at home, I have a medium sized yard and love to walk. Some people have told me the Welsh has issues w/"strangers" and the English is friendlier, I don't want to eliminate looking at the beautiful Welshie if that's not an issue I could work out. My last dog was small, so I'm looking for moderation in size as well as maintenance. Don't know if there is much of a difference in grooming/maintenance and even shedding between the 2 breeds? Temperament is really important as I'm looking for another lifetime family member. Would you recommend one or the other based on what I've referenced? (I know it's not much...just trying to find the righ fit). Thank you!
Hey Randy, it really is a matter or what is right for you. They each have their own personalities. The English are certainly more friendly to you and EVERYONE they meet vs the Welsh are friendly with you and a little more stand offish with others for awhile. They are so so sweet as well though... The Welsh a bit smaller in size and weight. Hope that helps!
I had a liver and white female field grade English Springer Spaniel and she was the best dog I've ever had. That's what I would recommend. You'd be hard pressed to find a more beautiful, intelligent and loving dog.
@@randytolen9531 You're welcome. What I meant by "field grade" was that mine was one of the Springers which are bred for hunting. There are two types of Springers--the type bred for dog shows and the type bred for hunting. The ones used for hunting are called field grade English Springer Spaniels. They're a little smaller than the other Springers and they're prettier in my opinion. From what I can see, all of the Springers shown on this channel are field grade Springers.
Hey! Thanks for the comment. Very interesting! We've always found the Welsh to be 'pointier'. Even have a look at the thumbnail of the video. The differences between Red and Rayna are VERY visible. Thanks again!
Hey Nathan, you can find us on Facebook by searching O’Shea Springers. We do have a webpage but it has the English Springer Spaniels on it not the Welsh yet. It is www.osheaspringers.com
@@OSheaSpringers Thank you, I've been constantly checking the AKC to welsh litters and like most who know about the breed have been waiting a long time for the opportunity. I'll check out your page and will continue to watch your channel. Two very adorable puppers!
They are pretty rare and difficult to get. I would search the American Kennel Club page for breeders that are close to you. Hopefully you can find one near you!
@@OSheaSpringers did you see the movie 'the ring of bright water', which was shot in scotland? it's for kids and adults and there's a springer in it. i love that movie. i think the actors were also in the movie 'born free'. my library got the dvd for me to borrow through interlibrary loan
It’s all I’m the training. You can have a dog that isn’t trained and is nuts. Then have that same dog where it is trained and it’s very well behaved. Some are easier to train than other though. A Springer is very driven by affection and praise so is quite easy to train.
