First off Nelle thank you for all your encouragement especially these last 2 or 3 mths! I am in the same boat as you were nearly 8 mths ago I have to face facts I am profoundly deaf with very little hearing! First off I love the zebra prints on your CI and remaining hearing aid & I so want that colour earmould! If I am not being nosey please could you tell me where you bought the earmold! A couple of months ago I bought the twisty things for my hearing aids from the same seller as you!Thank goodness for closed captions as I never heard the whistling from the aid! I am glad you jazzed the hearing devices up! I noticed you decided against having an earmould to hold the processor on! I think your uncle was like a lot us who would love to hear what an implant sounds like! As once you decide to have an implant you have rely on advice from people like yourself! It was good to show other types of hearing aids! I must admit I would have loved a full shell hearing aid! But we get what the NHS give us! It still can't be easy for you! It's only been 6 wks since activation! But anyone can see how much a 2nd implant would mean to you! Your hearing aid does very little! Apart from that the cute decales & earmoulds! But I don't see you giving up trying to get the other ear implanted it's a no brainer for the NHS! As for my broken hearing aids if you checked my Instagram feed I downloaded the email I got from my audiologist, they could find nothing wrong with the aids she thinks it's because I lost more hearing! So I asked about powerful Siemens impact DSP hearing aids! They first came out in 2011 & the deaf model Kellie moody used them! The audiologist found some reconditioned ones to try! As well as keep my existing hearing aids! In the new year we hope to meet face to face & try the Signia stretta UP rechargeable! And yes I might bring up the subject of a CI as you have a similar loss to me! But I am older than you so it's what the NHS can afford! The latest figures show £25K for one ear & 40K for both! I hope you,WIll & your family have a great Christmas & new year! Its not what you expected at easter when you had normal hearing but this is the normal now & your learning how to hear more each day! So this time next year I hope you have the job of your dream & the other ear implanted! Best video to date I so enjoyed it! Hope you will do more video's next year to tell us how much more you can hear! Let's hope these 10 yr old hearing aids help will update on Instagram! 💟💟💟

Hi, thank you for your comment. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I got my earmold from Boots. It's from Starkey and the colour is called 'fuschia pink'. Good luck with your new hearing aids. Nelle

@@nellefindlay thank you for letting me know where you got your earmould from! I will wait for covid cases to drop & to see if the NHS will still do coloured moulds! But if not I will get in touch with my nearest boots to get a price for two! I do like the idea though of getting red or pink! But yours look quite a stand out! I fancy a change from blue! Hope your Christmas day went well & your implant helped the day go ok! It's a shame you could not hear the sleigh bells! 🤣

Hello Nelle, fun and informative as always. Love the zebra print, if you've got it, flaunt it, as they say. May I wish you, Will and your family a Happy Christmas and a peaceful, except when knocking 7 bells out of Will, New Year. :)

Hi Nelle you were after ideas for another video! Maybe a recap from when you lost your hearing in April and how it's been with your implant! What sort of things you can hear now! There are a lot of new people watching these video's & your Instagram stuff! Some may be in the same boat as you suddenly losing their hearing! Before you started these video's there were very few like it & very few under 25! Yours have got better each time! Your so confident now! No notes but as you think of it! 💖💖

Hi Nelle - Just discovered your videos on CI - I'm a lot older than you - 67 - have been assessed and I am a candidate. I currently have a hearing aid in both ears - my left ear is my best and my right is very bad and the one for CI. I am in Dublin Ireland and HSE like the NHS are only funding one per person. You are an excellent communicator - very concise and clear. So I am now just waiting for MRI and hope full have a CI operation early next year. Was just wondering how does your CI work in noisy places like restaurants and pubs and does the combo of your CI and your H Aid work well together. I listen to a lot of audio books, podcasts, TV, Zoom calls etc on my H Aids does this work with CI and H Aid combo. Thank you again and i will certainly watch more of your videos on CI. Namaste. Declan

Hi! Thank you for your comment. Good luck with your CI. My cochlear implant definitely works much better in quiet environments. Even a little background noise really affects what I can hear. However, there is the option of using external microphones such as the Cochlear Mini mic or the MedEl Audiolink (depending on which brand of CI you have). You could also use a radio aid system such as the Phonak roger (compatible with most CIs and Hearing aids). An external microphone really helps cut out the background noise and allows you to still hear even in background noise. I personally received a Phonak RogerOn radio aid through Disabled Students Allowance, which I have found to be brilliant. It has a pointing mode (which is different from some other microphones) which is really helpful for situations where you are standing around talking in a group. Most new CI processors have ways to connect to mobile phones, mp3 players, TVs etc., so you can absolutely listen to Zoom calls and TV shows. I personally still find I miss things if I don't have the subtitles on. Still, I hear a lot more than when I only had hearing aids (although your experience may differ depending on your specific level of hearing loss and your results from a CI). I hope this answers your questions. Nelle :)

@@nellefindlay Thank you Nelle. Yes I have RogerOn and I find it excellent except for not great battery life so I always carry a small powerpak in case battery runs out.

Hi Nelle may I take this opportunity to wish you,Will & your family a very merry Christmas and I hope next year you get the other ear implanted! Your video's have been very interesting & shows what can happen to someone of any age to suddenly lose their hearing! It does not seem right if your say 18 or younger you get bilateral implants! It should be done on merit! If say after 6 mths you have done really well & your speech recognition is good then they should offer you the chance to have the other ear implanted! If you need two hearing aids you get them I know a pair of them probably cost as much as your processor! But if a hearing aid does not help then if you got one from the NHS it would be a waste of money! I hope we get more video's in the new year! As one person said we would miss you saying "hello people of the internet" 💖💖

Hi, thank you for your comment. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I'll wait and see what happens about a second cochlear implant, but so far, I've been told it's a very definite no. I'll be keeping up the videos in the new year.

Thanks Nelle, I really appreciate your video. I have seen people with the implant, but never knew how it worked. I have an implant of a different kind it's a, Neuro Spinal Stimulator. It's a wire that runs under my skin in my back along my spine. How far up it went was determined by a series of injections I had been receiving. I suffer from a lot of nerve pain due to issues with my neck. My wire is powered by a controller/battery which was placed in a pocket of skin that was made at the time of surgery. I have pics. Lol

Hi, fellow cyborg! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I had never heard of Neuro Spinal Stimulators before, but I've googled it now. It's really interesting. I hope it's working for you and it's helping you with your nerve pain. Nelle xx
