For 2023 Suzuki made changes in the V-Strom 1050 lineup and added a new V-Strom 1050DE version with some changes, upgrades and... downgrades. The 2022 and before V-Strom 1050XT is no longer offered, however in fact you may still get it. I'm going over all the differences between the models and what changes for 2023 in the regular V-Strom as on its own, it gets a few really nice improvements.

I just purchased a leftover 2023 1050DE, loved all the updates on the 2023, most important to me is reliability, manual suspension, cruise control, up and down QS, it has one of the best TFT dash’s out there. 21 inch front wheel. I absolutely love the gear driven cams on this 90 degree V-twin! I paid USD $12,600 OTD. (total cost) I am 6’4” tall and this DE fits me to a T! I tip my helmet to Suzuki….awesome motorcycle!

One of the best reviews I’ve ever seen, you really know the subject matter. For what it is worth, I have a gen 1 VStrom 650. Regarding the 1050; I’m not interested in the DE 2023 because of the changes. The basic design of the bike is pretty much perfect for what it is perfect for, light off road and everything else you would ever want to do. It will never be good off road. Putting a 21” on the front and giving it a bit more suspension, not to mention yet more weight, is going to detract from its performance everywhere, but mostly on road. Suzuki now has a very very odd lineup. A single 250. VStrom 650. In line 800. And the VStrom 1050’s. I can’t see this lasting more than a couple of years. The Storms are fantastic bikes for the price but times, they are a changin,

Thank you for your educated thoughts. Appreciate your reviews! Waiting for your road test of the DE. After 89K Km on my DL650 2011 I would be tempted by the 1050DE but not sure I need such an upgrade. With USD8099+Tax then, 22L for the range, 220Kg, simple efficient abs, very economical on maintenance and usage, incredible reliability + no worries on gravel roads : my choice for daily commuting/week-end & vacation rides was so easy in 2011 !!! If you don't mind the look and are not seeking 0-100Km/h under 3s there was no real concurrence. My wallet and my logic push me away from the 1050DE, but my ego is kind of sold. Well Suzuki also present a 800DE, but not a V-twin so I guess it will stay under my radar, and yours as well?.. So again, waiting for your road-test of the 1050 ! THX.

If you're not pushed towards BMW, then I'd say that your ego may only be considered strong! But I do feel you. Coming off of a V-Strom 1000, I really couldn't see which bike would be a good replacement. The two issues in the case of an old 1000 was no ABS and traction control which is unacceptable nowadays and brings real danger, so I'd say that it was a necessity once these features have become very popular. But in the case of your 650 with ABS, you may chill. On the other hand, there are bikes that provide more performance and it may be considered an upgrade. 1050 is still pretty comfortable but as for the 1050DE, I'd definitely first test how it rides as those lifted front ends due to a larger front wheel can cause these bikes to behave in weird ways - like it happened with Triumph Tiger 1200. Others like KTM and BMW are great but we've got to see how Suzuki handled it in a V-Strom 1050.

Great review, well done! I am in the process of getting my 8th and final ride. I am looking at some great discounts this time of year( fall) on 1050DE. Love the whole reliability of the VStrom, and contrary to some, I like the styling( esp. Blue Pearl Vigor). I really want to like the VStrom! But honestly there are a lot question marks. As an example, the 2023 1050DE does not have heated grips, that would come with the 1050DE Adventure, which is not available in Canada for 2023.Big price jump to the Adventure( available for 2024 in Canada) Suzuki charges $700.00 for the parts.Only one example. Once you start factoring in the extras and things you cannot change, I start looking at the options. There are many options in this price range, with better off road capabilities, and have some options as standard such as heated grips, seat, easily adjustable windscreen, tubeless tires on BOTH tires. I wish Suzuki would address some of the shortcomings, which don't seem to be huge. Again, really want to like the VSTROM 1050, but for the price all of these "misses" should not be.

I am undecided between BMW S1000XR, Suzuki VStrom 1050 XT, Suzuki GSX1000 and Yamaha Tracer 9 GT Plus. Fillion comfort is very important. It will be used for daily commuting as well as long tours. Which one do you recommend and why?

I did order the regular Vstrom. I know bikes from before since my was the 2019 1000 XT. But in 2022 I did not like there was not TFT and quickshifter so I went with new KTM 1290 SAS, but after 6 months it was stolen. I love Vtwin engine sound and character so much that I ordered it for 2023 sure with Akrapovic from the start.

Very informative. I had a 2004 vstrom. Like some of features of 2022xt and 2023 std. non electronic suspension, vtwin engine, simple electronics no 21in. front wheel.. Seat and windshield suck. Want a new bike for weekend touring & dirt road occasionally with 100+ horsepower. Don't want expensive parts and maintenance of BMW, Ducati, or Ktm (no 21in front wheel)Africa twin or $20,000+ price in Usa. 15k or less is more like it. I Had a 2014 Triumph tiger 1200 and it was good. So what am I left with? Used Super Tenere? V strom? Or?
@ioandragulescu6063
@ioandragulescu6063 10 месяцев назад
the main advantage of the v strom over the ktm and/or BMW is reliability. Took one of the new 790s for a spin, 700 kms so brand new bike. The quick shifter was already acting up when going from 4th to 5th, about 50% of these shifts would result in a false neutral with the engine revving up to max. If failures are supposed to be part of the KTM experience and excitement then I'll pick the "boring" suzi anytime, thank you very much. I'm an asphalt creature anyway.

I have made some savings and I am thinking of buying 1 of the three models that I will tell you. I am thinking of traveling with the motorcycle for vacations in my country in the summer months but also having it for my work every day. Also sometimes hosting and my wife on my walks but not often. so my first choice is the one featured on your channel today.2 tracer gt. 3 Honda NT DCT.4 DUCATI ,HARLEY DAVIDSON PAN AMERICA SPECIAL MULTISTRADA V4 S.I hope you can help me. I have seen all the model presentations on your channel but I would like your opinion. Thanks for your time. we are waiting for many more nice videos.
@VToldsMotoShow
@VToldsMotoShow Год назад
I think I got it - the translation seems very good. It would be helpful to think how much you'd be riding in the city and outside the city and what you like in the motorcycle. If in the city, I'd say forget about the Harley - I struggled with it in the city. Outside the city it's brilliant and super comfortable. If you'd ride in both places, a V-Strom 1050 may be an interesting choice. Less power, maybe a bit less comfortably but super close and still one of the best, but also less money to spend on it. That's of course in very general terms. About the Tracer 9 GT - I'm not sure if I'd go for it if I was about to ride with a passenger. It's not as stable as the V-Strom and Harley. it turns more eagerly and feels much lighter but that's not exactly that helpful when riding with a pillion as every their move makes you fight the bike. I haven't tried the Honda but it's a different animal than others. Ducati Multistrada V4S - probably the best bike overall out of the mentioned ones. The most power, still comfortable, stable like a V-Strom, maybe a bit better in the city, so if you've got the money and like its character, it may be a top choice here. It's the one that I personally would choose out of the ones that you've mentioned. But out of all bikes in the category, I think I'd prefer BMW R1250GS and in some cases BMW S1000XR over it (and KTM 1290 Super Adventure S/R but I cannot recommend it to everyone).

You missed out the sodium valves (apparently they run cooler according to Suzuki) but a great explanation! I think the standard model is the sweet spot (without riding them) the spoked wheels have a reputation for corroding. That said here in the U.K. the competition is probably too good - Yamaha Tracer etc for the same money.
@VToldsMotoShow
@VToldsMotoShow Год назад
Thanks and I also think that now the 'regular" 1050 represents a pretty good combination. About the valves - I cannot tell how in real world riding this will impact the riding or even long-term ownership. About the Tracer, these two seem actually pretty far away from each other I think. The feeling of riding either is to me sooo different. Anyhow, thanks for noticing and if you've got an idea about what the sodium valves will change/help with, it'll be highly appreciated to share more about it.

Thank you very much for your help. It's really valuable. My result will be next year I'll save some more money and get the Multistrada, the Ktm was bought by a friend last year and after 10,000 it had some problems with the electronics, so for reliability reasons I wouldn't prefer the Ktm. The gs 1250 adventure is a very complete motorcycle but I don't know how convenient the boxer engine would be for daily commuting in the city. I think I'm on xr 1000 and Multistrada. Splitting, I'll test drive them again and decide. I think it would be worth a little more patience to raise some extra money. Thank you very much for your time and interest in being always well and full of health. In my country we call our biker friends (always stand up and write many kilometers). I will wait for a new video as always. :)

@@VToldsMotoShow Sodium filled valves are mentioned in the Suzuki marketing blurb, I’m just mentioning it because its another change for 2023. The benefits are supposed to be more efficient heat transfer etc., the benefits to the owner probably zero on this big lazy V Twin engine so I agree no meaningful benefit to ownership. My point regarding the Tracer is you do seem to get more for your money if you buy Yamaha when compared to the base V Strom, they both have an adventure style look (I think) and will appeal to the same market sector i.e. the Tracer GT costs £100 more than the Suzuki but you’ll get the panniers thrown in (U.K. market).

You forget to mention about changes of gearing and sprocket size (longer 6th gear, changes of 1st and 2nd gears) which changes acceleration and improve fuel economy, reduces RPM when cruising on highway (at least according what Suzuki claims). A certain disadvantage of this motorcycle is the IMHO low load capacity - which is only 198 kg (although it is still more than the 193 kg of the Yamaha Tracer 9). For example Kawasaki Versys 1000 has a load capacity of 220 kg. Do you agree that this is Suzuki's disadvantage?

Aha, let's ban forks as someone can use them to stab us in the eye. I've never been stabbed with it and never lost a fob in any car or a motorcycle, so it wouldn't really convince me. But yes, if you don't have keyless ignition, you don't have keyless ignition problems. Following this sort of scenario, your key may get bent in a pocket and you won't be able to insert it and start the bike. Or some mean pedestrian may stick something into the ignition and you also would be in trouble.

@kannermw Год назад
Suzuki marketing is to be kind in words delusional with 1050DE. It is not an off-road bike and never will be and even the marketing language used in their videos uses weasel words to downplay the off-road capability. They finally did what is right in base model feature sets with TFT, IMU, cruise, quick-shifter, hand-guards, and windscreen adjustment. They also fixed what I consider to be a weak spot in the gearing as first gear was too low but now that will make it even worse for off-road. I think overall the price is creeping up too high vs other competitors and they need more engine power and standard features like heated hand grips to be competitive in the value vs. price equation.
@VToldsMotoShow
@VToldsMotoShow Год назад
Well-said I think with good points about offroading capabilities. I also thing that it's more of a touring road bike as it's always been. Prices go up but as we know from an example of Kawasaki Versys 1000, in some places the asking price is a whole different story than what dealers take for them in the end, so perhaps Suzuki will also realize that and be able to make it more competitive. Thanks for sharing! You gave me a good laugh mentioning Suzuki's marketing. Cheers!

@@VToldsMotoShowI have 2018 VStrom 1000XT that I plan to sell now that I purchased Versys 1000 SE LT+ late this past fall. Finally, Suzuki introduced many of the features I was seeking except semi-adaptive suspension. I desired more room for 2-up riding and a less lumpy engine with a bit more power. I really liked the VStrom for the absurdly low price I paid in 2018 but now find it difficult to justify paying as much as I did for the Versys 1000 once you add comparable options like side cases, heated grips on a bike with 10% less engine power and no advanced suspension. Oddly even with 6-axis IMU the 1050 still does not have cornering traction control which was a strong consideration for my next upgrade. If you have never watched the videos demonstrating cornering ABS and traction control it is truly amazing how it could save you from an unexpected bad situation.
