Hi, I’m a truck driver. Love what you guys do! See you guys all the time I pass CBP Inspection stations. But one day I accidentally called a female CBP officer a “sir” after asking me if I’m a US citizen. I felt genuinely bad because I’m so used to male officers. She was pretty upset. For a second I thought I was gonna get deported. Anyways.. keep up the good work guys AND GIRLS! And good luck to those who are applying. Hope to see y’all on the road :)
@@erikisass6942 - Hey thanks . Your notification brought me back here. I actually quit trucking this year. Too many useless regulations and got hit with a pathetic warning. Gonna miss the road and the good ol days but I’m moving on.
I hope you get this, I just watched my first CBP 'documentary ' on National Geographic today. I have been searching for a way to just send my gratitude and thanks for who they all are and what they do. I have a son who has been a drug addict for, unfortunately, most of his life. He is 40 years old, in and out of prison for possession and selling. It kills me. But I just know how much worse it would be, if we didn't have the agents and officers we do have. THANK YOU ALL. From the bottom of my heart. I'm praying this gets to as many as possible, to let them know that they are appreciated. Blessings
FLETC training is the best in the world. I graduated in February 2003 after my Spanish immersion course in the USDOJ INS. Good times back then. I had always been proficient with firearms....but they made me even better.
Retired Supervisory CBP Officer. After 13 years army active duty ( 11B 11M) and three years Air Force DoD Police, I tested for Immigration Officer position, (Special Agent, Deportation Officer, Immigration Inspector) Scored 100 on test plus ten points veterans preference. However, I was 40 and only eligible for I I position because it did not have 6c LEO retirement coverage. Went to academy in 97 and served in Laredo for seven years Grades GS 5-11, In 2003, Customs Inspectors and Immigration Inspectors moved to DHS CBP as CBP officers. In 2004 promoted to Supervisor GS-12,on Canadian border and in 2007 promoted to GS-13 and transferred to DC to manage CBP operations overseas. Retired as a GS 1895-14 in 2012. Excelente job, extensive overtime, ($20k + a year ) when working the border. Final salary was well in excess of $100k.
Hey Brother I hope you are well, do you have any advice for a 24 year old who has military background and God honoring values? I love combat, shoukd I do this?
CBPO = your on pavement all day and always have supervisors and back up near by and have better locations to choose from. BPA =. You work in desolate areas with less supervision in the field and will often be by yourself and will most likely be on the southern border for 5-7 years. Each has pluses and minuses if you like more outdoors type of work BP is probably better if you prefer a more office like environment and inspection of various cargo, etc. OFO is better. Depends on the person if your a hunter you’ll love BP because you will be out in nature tracking people. If you like more analytical work like looking for fraudulent documents a port is a good choice. Not all stations and ports are the same but in my opinion this covers the majority.
Wait what part of OFO is analytical? I could understand if you said Agricultural Specialist but not OFO lol. Oh wait I did see an OFO Officer count a lot of pills before. Overall good explanation of the two positions!
If you’re watching this and want to apply listen up! DONT WATCH ANYTHING OR READ ANYTHING ABOUT THE POLYGRAPH. Go into it relaxed on 9 hours of sleep eat normal have normal morning routine and when they give you the chance to talk before getting hooked up be honest about everything and you will pass it. Don’t let the fail bloggers freak you out! Just don’t waste everyone’s time if you’re going to lie about the one time you smoked weed 5 years ago.
writ flit jate you are doing the exact same thing I did to enter the Sheriffs. only difference I think is you need to be 21 to use a handgun. I was 52 as an ACO then turned 57 in recruit class. I am now 60. Have fun in what you do.
I thought the cbp officers worked with the office of field operations (aka OFO) i believe they are the biggest law enforcement agency in the cbp. And they do have a swat division as well i think.
Phoenix - what you say is not entirely accurate. It is best to check with the Homeland Security web site for accurate info. The main point it the abbreviation CBP stands for Customs and Border Protection, but what most people refer to as Customs Officers are officially called CBP officers, even though they are just a portion of the overall organization.. Employed 61,506 men and women including law enforcement and trade personnel: » 24,511 CBP officers » 2,465 CBP agriculture specialists » 19,648 Border Patrol agents » 597 air interdiction agents (pilots) » 339 marine interdiction agents » 296 aviation enforcement agents » 979 trade personnel
There are differences with most police positions. CBP Officers typically do not carry guns or arrest people. But there are more similarities than differences.
@@lawenforcementprep884you say CBPO’s don’t carry firearms typically but that’s contradictory to what you said in the video. I’m referring to the slide “Job Requirements”. It’s also my understanding that CBPO’s do carry guns more than not.
Great to know this ! I intend next year to become a Customs and border officer by next year after high school I just don’t know if my high school diploma will be accepted as I am an American studying overseas because of my dad serving in the Air Force ( I study in an off base school )
Thank You for the I2 ( Information and Intelligence) on The Customs and Border Protection ( CBP) and The Border Patrol, both under The Department of Homeland Security. KEEP AMERICA SAFE!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🗽🔫⚔️💣💥🔥💀☠️
You will make lots of $$$$ but you will have no life you will work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays. The worst part is working back to back to back 16 hr shifts with little or no notice and work with supervisors that are idiots and a**h****. I speak from experience I am a former CBP Officer my advice is to go with Border Patrol.
I thought you were describing the Border Patrol. I can tell you after a couple 16 hour days the aggression of finding someone wears off. The worst part was the rotating of shifts every month. Made good money though 46000 first year as a GS 5 in 1997 and 54000 as a GS 7 in 1998. Now they are GS 12 so that should make about a 100000 a year when all is said and done. Best way into federal service. I just completed 20 years two months ago.
Hey sarg just passed my test with border patrol with a 92, 5 point veteran i have an associates degree and one year of work experience at the sheriff department in Houston am i looking at gs 5 or gs 7?
Raymond Cruz if your year with SO is as a Deputy you can apply for a GS-9. Apply for all of them, 5-9. They will decide what you best qualify for. You actually write it up detailing your experience and qualifications for each grade level. If you have supervisory experience make sure to throw that in outlining what your responsibilities were. Good luck!
I'm currently about to start my final semester of university (graduate by Christmas) and was curious as to how long the application process for CBP really takes? The website says 2 weeks to 2 years, which is vague considering I'm looking for a career now and not in two years. Because I'm unsure of the timing of recruitment, I'm hesitant to apply to the current listing as I've yet to complete my degree and don't want any awkward situations regarding timing of graduation and any potential offers, and yet I don't want to sit around after I graduate for several months twiddling my thumbs hoping for approval. I contacted the two official recruiters in the port areas I'm interested in and one quickly responded with they "have new job openings posted every month" and the other still hasn't returned my inquiry after several weeks. So my answers were not satisfactorily answered through proper channels and I was hoping you might have some feedback as I'm concerned knowing there are test and background checks that need to be performed before anything can happen and bureaucratic nonsense can get in the way of time.
They are mathematical reasoning based on simple formulas. Train one left the station traveling 60 miles an hour at one time and train two left the station at 40 miles an hour at another time. Both distances given. What train will be where at another given time. Stuff like that. Twenty years ago you couldn't write anything down so I fingered up the screen trying to get my facts straight.
Don’t know if your still monitoring this feed but I recently applied for CBP not border Patrol. I was invited to take the test and I passed. In the email they said they will contact me after they run background. In your experience how long would you expect for an answer back from CBP?
I am a college student with 3 years of 4 completed. I have 4 years active as a marine, 1 year as an active Certified Correctional peace Officer. Do you think this would be enough to apply for either position?
Marine Fit RobShamstin Of course. You don't need a college degree or military experience to become an agent. It's great that you do and it will help you on the job. Also, if you finish your degree you will start at a higher pay level. There are many agents from all walks. Some came straight from high school, some transfers from other agencies like the fbi, law enforcement, corrections. Some agents with multiple degrees. All you need to do is qualify ie pass exams, physically fit, no felonies/ driving record, no past drug history, no unreasonable amount of debts. Oh and the ability to learn Spanish if you don't know it already
George g sorry, i just saw this. They look at your debt before hiring and I believe periodically like at the 5 yr background check. They believe if you have debt you maybe more susceptible to bribes, illegal activity or poor decisions making. Also Law enforcement has a high rate of suicides, domestic violence etc which is increased during financial issues. If you have debt I would still apply. My husband got in 10 yrs ago and we just had large amounts of college loans. I think they are looking more so at bankruptcies. The process has changed a bit from then.
i just took my BP entrance exam yesterday.. results come in about 2/4 weeks. Can I still submit a CBP application if I have failing results on my BP scores?
Hello, I was just wondering, what are the chances a cbp officer gets their first duty station in Florida? Is Florida a place where only people with seniority can go to? And as a cbp officer are you more likely to start out in the southwest as i assume an agent would do?
The Border Patrol is very marine corps based. Believe me it lives like the marine corps as far as I can tell. I was in the Air Force and am in the Army so I cannot compare the Marine Corps but they always talked about how the clothing was similar and the culture and the lack of funding.
very helpful video. I have three more questions. I'm on average what is the pay difference between them both. and which one would be the best first choice two apply. and finally can you apply for both agencies at the same time? thank you sir.
Hello Sgt. I've been thinking about applying to become a BP agent. Unfortunately around 6 years ago I arrested for an assault charge (class A misdemeanor) wondering if that's an automatic disqualifyer...
You work 5 days a week and have two days off and live in your own home except when you are at the academy. CBP Officers work 8 hour shifts and Border Patrol Agents work 10 hour shifts. CBP officers often work double shifts at busier locations and every hour past 8 hours is overtime. These jobs are civilian jobs and not military ones, you can resign at anytime. The key thing with CBP officers is location, if you work at a port-of-entry or an airport there will be a big difference.
Allen 2020, Port of Entries are going to have more action normally. You will see more drugs and action. Most people who work in airports for CBP do it for the location, not for the work. Airports are usually going to be in bigger cities and you can live a major city. There are a lot of ports of entries in tiny border towns with little available as far as things to do. When you first start your career your concern will be the work, after you have a certain amount of years in you will be more concerned with your location and your quality of life outside of work.
No benefits like the military. Civilian government gets health insurance at a 50 percent rate. You get retirement based on one third of your high three and you can invest in the TSP, which you want to do to get a retirement that you can live well on. You also get some form of AUO which is overtime. That changed since I left so I am not sure what they get now but it is less. It was a deal to get GS 12 journeymen. The patrol balked at it in 2002 but something changed since I left. Look up the GS law enforcement pay scale so see what they make. THIS IS A HARD LIFE but it pays well and if you want a fair start they will let you earn it if you meet their criteria.
I'm going to tell you the answer is no. I worked for TSA for 6 years now and no entity under DHS gives you any benefits like the military will. Retired Sgt. United States Army.
sir, I am a Deputy Sheriff with 3 years experience and was a Jail Guard for 4 years prior. I am a veteran and I am currently looking to join the border patrol as an agent or officer. I am over 40. Can I still qualify for either position inspite of being over 40? Thank you for your time. Deputy Dennis Martin
Dennis Martin Deputy Martin, I'm 19 years old and I'm a Class One Police Officer in NJ, I was just wondering how to become a Sheriffs Officer or how to work in the Sheriffs office.
Dennis Martin sir, you mention being a veteran. I believe there is an age exemption for military veterans right now. Don’t now all he details but I’m fairly certain of it. Look into it. Good luck!
Kevin - YES - normal max age is no 40. But you will get veterans preferences that extend that. www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/veterans-services/vet-guide-for-hr-professionals/
since you are required to carry a firearm, does this mean there is an age requirement of 21? everywhere i look online all i see is the age limit, but nothing about a requirement...
Study mathematical reasoning calculations. You can improve. I did it at night for the Air Force. They never commissioned me but I at least learned some stuff. The BP test is timed so practice with a time constraint.
What about my Russian speaking and if u learn Arabic? Will I use those alot and will they train me to speak them better or pay for that education elsewhere? Also, what countries will I be? I don't necessarily want to be at the Mexican border.
Sgt. George Godoy yes but seems like border patrol does more badass police stuff, true? I don't want to just stand around and interview people in their language. Is the Customs side pretty tactical?
I’m interested in applying for the CBP and I’m a military veteran, but I have anxiety. I know that I can handle a job like this. Can the CBP hired someone with anxiety ?
No, I have worked in two government positions with men who make over 100000 a year and barely got a high school degree. These are based on shooting skills, physical fitness and the ability to work hard and not complain.
Hi sir, thank you for the great informative videos you provided. I have a question, can cbp officers also apply to borstar and bortac, or is that only for border patrol agents? Thanks in advance.
If you made it through the academy, ramp up the pt training for those two programs. Thought of doing BORSTAR but left for another job instead. Was there when they started the program.
Veterans don't really have an age limit. As long as you can meet 20 yrs by age 60. So that means you can be 50 and do 10 yrs. So it's 20 yrs combined federal time.
Why is "keeping weapons out" noted as a primary objective (unless they mean bombs or fully automatic weapons or chemical weapons or the like)? It's not like it's that hard for anybody to access firearms in the US through legal channels (if not lawfully, via a 3rd party who is simply a citizen not prohibited from acquiring and possessing firearms). Preventing the export of firearms would be more important, theoretically.
No one cares about that. The border is open and families and friends move across all the time to visit and then return. We didn't even mess with them. Humanity has a base that applies to almost all people. There are a lot of Hispanics in the ranks and supervisory level with family in Mexico. That's the way it is.
CBP requirement is "Be referred for selection prior to your 40th birthday (or receive an exception for veteran's preference eligibility or previous service in a civilian law enforcement position)"
Are there reserve like positions within the BP? I am not willing to quit my current career but would love once a month duty similar to Military options.
I received an email from a CBP worker for all the information needed to prepare for your application, including a link to the study guide. Send me your email address and I will forward that email to you.
@@filampatriot980 jowford@wccnet.edu is my email thank you so much!!!!! I really appreciate it!!! Did you ever get on with cbp? Or at least start the process yet?
You will have to see if you are in violation of the Lautenberg agreement. If so then you will have to go through legal loopholes. Violation of that agreement based on domestic violence complaints may prevent you from carrying a gun.
Hey Sgt. I have been given mixed answers on this question. I am applying for the position of border patrol agent and i have my exam scheduled. What i have been getting mixed answers on, is if there is a math portion. Some say no and others say yes. On the site they tell you to study math, and the recruiter i emailed said there is math. But perhaps they think i am taking a different exam? My buddy who has taken it said there is no math. I only ask because i am very very bad at it hahaha.
Yup i watched it. But thats why i said i was getting mixed answers. Maybe wondered if the exam process or testing standards had changed. Thanks for the help.
Sgt. George Godoy I just passed my exam for bp I'm very happy about it but when I applied I intended to apply for cbp. Is the test the same? At any point can I transfer for the other position?
10th-planet Jiu-jitsu; going to be a professional passport stamper? Congratulations. Practice this: "Welcome to America." Gonna need that in various forms like 200 times a day.
mattlriddle bahahaha that was clever. Well that was my intentions to be a professional passport stamper but some how I applied to border patrol instead of customs
