You can start off with CBP in any location, they have openings all over the place, lateral transfers are only filed by about 50 percent of vacances the rest are new hires. Also, CBP officers get shift differential, 20 percent for midnight, 15 percent 4-12. Also 50 percent for Sunday pay. The shift differential can be significant over the course of the year. Many BP officers transfer to CBPO because of the pay.. Pay increases come fast, you go from GS-7, to GS9 to GS 11 to GS 12 at one year increments with about a 10K increase at each level.

So if I was to become a BPA and decided to become a customs officer. Would I have to start training all over again or would my experience as BPA be good enough to get me in?

@@tsarsfield12 yes Depending on the application you apply for certain geographic locations Then once you completed all the hiring steps you are offered a position. There are Border Patrol Agents overseas. Agents go on details to other countries and agents in the elite BORTAC or BORSTAR units get deployed overseas working with our countries military operators. Border Patrol also works with foreign law enforcement and builds up their force through training in law enforcement arrests, contraband detection.

i went through for both BP and CBPO but CBPO took way longer in processing and more and i think CBPO is better since ur indoors if your at the airport if your at the border ports ur outdoor in the heat alot and long hrs but BP is all outdoors at the borders and u will be riding around in alot of rough terrain its all up to u if u wanna work outdoors ur whole career or until ur higher up GS 13 and on u pick BP in the heat or as CBPO at the airport if u applied at the airport station then u will go there after ur done with training

Another thing to note that I haven't seen people mention is that it is very very very difficult to change ports once you've selected one. Don't even get me started with preclearance ports. If you do choose CBPO then get ready for long hours, low morale and being stationary for 4-5 plus years before you even have a shot at moving anywhere overseas or any desirable stateside locations.

Did the CBPO thing did the rotating shifts, nights, weekends and holidays as well as graveyard, but the worst was the back to back to back 16hr mandatory shifts with little or no notice, going in at midnight and getting off at 4pm then going back in at midnight with only 2-3hrs of sleep was not fun. @@Saikoaktive because of my age bro and current situation, I chose to turn down Border Patrol and wait for Customs. The location I was being sent to was very undesirable and I know I was going to be stuck there for at least 5-6 years at the bottom of the seniority list. Even then, transfer options are short compared to Customs who cover not only Border, but Airports and Seaports, so there's a much higher chance/options to switch stations. I don't want to be getting a desirable transfer pushing 50 with my joints and back worn out. If I was 25 with no family, I would've took Border in a heartbeat. And Don't get me wrong, I regret my decision to have turned it down and think about it a lot and how the job would have been. But you can't think for myself anymore when you have a wife and child. It sucks, but I had to make a decision based on my current situation. If you are young and you still have time in your hands. I would totally jump for Border if it's offered. You can spare time to wait and even transfer to a better agency later with BP experience (which to me is better than CBP experience). As for me, I got no time lol. Once I hit 40, the job and location I choose is who I stay with for until close to retirement.

Yes. Border Patrol would hire you without college provided you have some police or correctional experience. Also the Capitol Police and Secret Service uniformed division do not require college.

I suggest searching USA jobs for entry level positions (USSS is currently hiring). If you meet the basic requirements, apply. The worst they can say is no. If they accept your application, you will begin a lengthy hiring process. While you are waiting to get hired, work towards getting your degree. Chances are you will get rejected a bunch before getting picked up by an agency so just keep applying and keep working.

Theres one guy that has D.O.D. military police experience as a security forces member with a Bachelors Degree and had a cargo inspection job for the railroad before working for the D.O.D. passed everything the poly, structured interview, step test, medical, but then O.P.R. said no, ur not worthy enough to be with CBP and that person is me. I strongly suggest enlisting and being a commissioned officer in any branch or if you can't commission be a senior n.c.o. and lead ur troops in a good leadership role as a E-7 or above!

Why are CBP officers not agents like Border patrol agents?
@federallawenforcementcaree9900
@federallawenforcementcaree9900 3 года назад
They are federal LEOs. Prior to the creation of DHS, they were immigration or customs inspectors who were not law enforcement officers, but now they do have LEO status and the same authority as the USBP. The USBP has been around since the early part of the 20th century and they just moved into DHS.

Everyone who's watching this and thinking about becoming an agent needs to stop right now and drop the idea from their head consider literally any other form of employment do not pursue this I am telling you the truth because I wasted so much time energy effort and money trying to become a border patrol agent. Still, many other people for which the polygraph is meant to filter out those that don't have the moral character become an agent.... but the truth (and this is the TRUTH) - is it's just used as a tool to keep these polygraph examiners employed - it doesn't matter who you are what background you come from how Christian of a life you've led up to this point. You're more likely to fail just because of some bureaucrat who needs a job I've wasted so much time and effort into this clown show. The audacity of the polygraph examiners is that they will ask someone to come back a second time for a 2nd polygraph - with zero intention to pass them the second time they will fail before walking in the door the 2nd time, no different than the 1st. Why? Because they get a whopping huge percentage of the $2200 it takes for the U.S. government to pay for the test itself. YES! It is that fucked up. BTW, the process to even get as far as the polygraph is.... immense. So you will be in a position where you have spent countless hours at doctors, structured interviews, filling out probably 200 forms, tests, exams, more doctors appointments, pre-security interview, background check (federal, it is like 50 pages long and extremely detailed with 32 different sections, enjoy), AND MORE. Then finally, at the very end is the polygraph. Confident? You shouldn't be. Brilliant men and women go in there with an impeccable record. And fail. Twice. It does not matter. The polygraph examiners are doing this for the $$$$ and for job security. There is no other federal agency who fails at even half the rate as the border patrol. DEA fail rate is 36%, CIA is 35%, FBI 30%.... Border Patrol is 75%. There are polygraph examiners with 100% fail rate (Del Rio Texas, Tampa Florida, and more). Let that sink in for a moment. And these people are have been doing this for years. There is no accountability and they are making bank. Just don't do it. Read up on the bullshit. Save yourself time & money. Just don't do it, I'm telling you. Fuck border patrol
