@@enriquerenteria6089 Good or bad, it’s culture! Maybe not upper-class or high-class culture, but culture nonetheless. Culture is not defined by it’s level of positivity or negativity. It’s defined by customs, arts and social institutions.
is this a joke? valuable to US linguistics? this ebonic trash is a detriment to the english language. It's not "culture", it's laziness in pronunciation and speech.
My determination as someone from outside the US, is that this is a group of sub 80 IQ monkeys. Just talking for the sake of talking but saying absolutely nothing.
Love this. Linguistically interesting of course but it just shows the humanity of the people that live in these neighborhoods - when you see how these places are portrayed in the media, they never show people just being human like this. And I love that you showed the Mississippi and Arkansas bits too, places that are so often neglected in the broader culture

Shout out to the group from Inglewood went from “stay dangerous because safes get cracked” to “FUCKKKK TRUMP” to a real solid analysis of recent American presidents to “yeah but I just don’t like his face.” You get the feeling an afternoon chatting with them would fly by. Love this project thank you for sharing!!!
A few commentators ask about St Louis. What’s interesting is the drastic effect on dialect Nelly and the St Lunatics had on the region. Prior to their release nearly all sounded somewhat in between Detroit and Little Rock. After Nelly’s success the entire hood adopted a much more southern/country dialect that Nelly brought in his music. It has always fascinated me how influential he was on the city that the next generation in the hood actually changed the way they talked.
Some of these young gentlemen seem very intelligent and just a victim of circumstance. I truly feel you are most likely to take the path in life based on the company you keep. It takes one of these young men to break the cycle in their family and strive for better. I recognize I am very lucky to be in the position I am and raised the way was. I don’t judge any of these gentlemen because I have never stepped foot in their shoes. God bless!
I’m a counselor, this was in my suggested videos. Thanks for sharing it with us all. I learned about a few new gangs I have never heard of, and I learned there are hoods in Canada which I would have never thought. Good counselors try to learn as much about every type of culture they can. You never know what your client may have faced in life or where they would have come from. This video is a good video for exposure to cultures that some people may have never experienced. I lived up in Detroit, and was born in New Orleans, so I have. However, I have met some counselors who def have been sheltered that would do good watching this. Also, watching this video Jackson, MS looked like he was on guard as when a car pulled into the area of the parking lot his whole demeanor changed. Seemed like he was in some danger and knew it. Praying for him. 🙏🏼
It's really incredible to hear. When you hear accents, it's not just the people or the area you're hearing, it's the history of the people, of ancestry, and a means of how communication changes over time. You get a literal history of a person by what they say and how they say it. Sometimes you can hear people from one region moving to another, or staying still, or any other manner of thing. It really helps me appreciate how people live their lives, you know?
@@oj4499 id say it should be seen because of the young generation these days. the things they say and explain in the video. the environment and everything. most kids these days think and act like they’ve gone through the most and that they live in such a shitty environment when they really don’t. living in a trailer park at most. when in these videos they talk about how dangerous the communities really are. just my perspective
Oh wow. Thank you so much for this fulfilling look at a bunch of uneducated thugs who only know how to be insecure and talk trash. I'm sure they'll all go far in life.
It's probably because he's African American too. Not saying this is every hood, but let's be fair, a lot of them wouldn't give him as much of a warm welcome if he was white or maybe Asian
@@libertyadams5961 That's exactly right. There is racism that exists within all races toward all races - not just one way, as the media attempts to portray.
@@JamesThomas-dz4vj Honestly, fuck the msm. They never want to call out racism from minorities because they're scared of being called ' racists'. They fail to realise that lots of people live in reality and can harbour even worse feelings towards these 'protected groups' that you can't even seem to critique without being lambasted by every extreme liberal on twitter. Constructive Crtitism in adult life is essential to growth, calling out mistakes in every party and working together to resolve them. It's insulting if they think us black people shouldn't be able to handle that responsibility (a lot of people don't seem to want to, but they should) . America is fucked, no offense but I'm glad I don't live there. As a black person I'll probably just be expected to subscribe to the more extreme beliefs of blm or stupid views of white people otherwise I'll be an 'oreo', or just judged by everyone else since so many African Americans act in specific types of ways. Not saying they all act like that, but I definitely wouldn't say that it's just a vocal 'minority'
HAHAHA I've been around people like this. Its actually enjoyable and entertaining when one of them says something slightly wise and they all act like its wisdom beyond mortals comprehension
This applies to everything not just living in the hood. Think of mothers that don't let their kids get dirty and rough. Living dirty and rough/dangerously builds an immunity physically but also mentally.
Stay disenfranchised? Stay asking? Stay stagnant? Stay losing? Stay struggling? This guy's answer to life is stay dangerous, with all those self inflicted problems they proud to claim! FUCK THE HOOD!
What you're talking about has more to do with social class and education level within a city. People with lower educational attainment usually have a stronger local accent, not always but mostly. Accents change over a wide geographic area.
Clyde Wuxler - that’s wild bruh. All these wannabe internet gangsters doing their thing and everyone’s likeminded selves getting influenced and doing shit they’d never do for the clout. And then it’s some real shit going down for real reasons but most of it is petty as fuck
As a Clevelander, the city has been trying to revive the area around East Cleveland and Buckeye, Eddy Rd, and other areas. The hood is still there and a lot of it still needs to be renewed, but the neighborhoods are starting to disappear and be replaced with new and safer neighborhoods. Just thought I should give an update about the situation here.
Gentrification is kicking folks out of their homes. Having said that, fixing systemic poverty is hard and most of the viable solutions are politically unacceptable in the US
yeah the only way to prevent gentrification is to have high home ownership rates in these neighborhoods which is extremely difficult unless there is a land reform which is, as you said, politically unviable. As long as the landlords have the profit motive, there's no reason for them to preserve the community. @@alexjeffrey3981

I often see on RU-vid that the Russian accent is very unpleasant when speaking English. Can you give an assessment to these Russian girls who sang songs in English. Do they have a strong accent and is it unpleasant? As a native Russian speaker, I cannot judge their accent ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ksdmzgY7Adk.htmlsi=dE3TX2g2oI7xINaA ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1A6sICBukb8.htmlsi=OXWo8Y17oaRfERp6 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_hZRMfurMEM.htmlsi=tjnemQZb2sovnpNA
True about Trump also, if AA smart they vote trump. Some time you have to join force with your little enemy to beat your bigger enemy. Trump say bad stuff but because of that they talking about AA and our problems so vote trump you need 4 more years of the spotlight on you.
@@jamiami3804 If you really want change vote Bernie Sanders. Hes the only candidate that truly cares about the lower classes. Our country cant survive 4 more years of Trump. All the MSM talk down on Bernie because they're controlled by the oligarchy. Bernie is the only answer. Just give him a chance and really listen to what hes saying. You might be impressed.
@@spencerzumwalt8957 Trump is good for women and all oppress groups, by being negative and hateful towards them he spread a spotlight on their issues that no other president not even Obama has done. He's just a mirror of Americans they don't like what they see reflecting backon them. What Trump says in public is the same views most people who has the power to enact changes has. I say give him four more years and let them be embarrassed, maybe some changes will come out of it. Voting for someone else will be just back to business as usual, hiding the negativity behind close doors and pretty speeches that don't mean a thing. Trump he says what they saying behind close doors and hidden in pretty speeches.
Being from the Bronx, NY. It blew my mind going down to North Carolina, visiting a Chinese restaurant, and hearing the family working there talking with a heavy southern accent.
I grew up in the South Bronx in the 70's Nuyorican, when I was in the Army stationed in Fayetteville NC I can tell they had a southern accent unlike New York City, when I spoke to some locals there they knew I was from NYC.
nah wordd, born and raised from the Bronx, Nuyorican, went to NC everyone got a heavy ass southern and as soon as I spoke in NC, they knew I was from NYC
Incredible job documenting these accents. Really shows how many subcultures have developed in black America throughout the last few century. Crazy to me that people don’t see the importance in studying these cultures.
Absolutely no idea why this is in my recommendations, but okay. I’ll watch. 🤷🏽♂️ Lol. Wow. I’ve never gotten so many likes on anything in my life. Thank you, guys!
The crap lord Sell true, but like most big cities, there are nice suburbs right outside of the city limits like Farmington hills, the 30th ranked safest place in the country to live (not completely current statistic).
They are at ossington station in central Toronto, I literally walked past exactly where the first two were today twice and I'll tell you right now that area isn't the best but isn't the hood. Its sadly full or drug addicts and otherwise struggling people but it is far from the hood, hence the cleaned up look to it.
Oddvar Galardi huh that's interesting. in the us there always seems to be violent crime with druggies or homeless... I think. maybe not actually. San Francisco has lots of homeless druggies but not lots of violent crime. I suppose maybe the more affluent the area + destitution = less violent crime. but the less affluent the area + destitution might equal violent crime
Speaking from experience or just this video? As the second guys said, Toronto’s gang related crimes and murders in the hoods have spiked. And considering it’s a lower population in a bigger sized city, the #’s aren’t very “clean”. Toronto(or the gangs) does a good job of keeping it just tucked into small areas of the city
@@melbatoast1858 drug addicts dont make a place the hood lol Thats irrelevent. most ppl who do drugs live in the suburbs/upper middle class. Hood is just where you go to buy them/get ripped off.
I can hear a gradual change from north to south on the east side, but it's hard for me to see the change gradually from east to the far west. I personally love hearing the Memphis drawl.
