Dr. Chau Phan talks about different types of pharmacies! (T) 510-200-9984 (F) 888-453-7344 Email: info@pleasantcarepharmacy.com website: pleasantcarepharmacy.com Instagram: pleasantcarepharmacy
Great Video Dr.Chau. One quick question - what is the difference between a Retail Pharmacy and Outpatient pharmacy ? Is it in terms of patient access ? That only patients with Rx from Dr. Affiliated to the institution get to purchase drugs at outpatient pharmacy outlets ?
Thank you! Great question! Retail pharmacy usually describes a community pharmacy while outpatient pharmacy describes a hospital affiliated pharmacy. However, working in retail pharmacy and an outpatient pharmacy can be similar where you interact with the public more. That's why I said in my video that there's inpatient and outpatient pharmacy in the hospital setting. Retail pharmacies can be a mom-and-pop independently owned or big-box store owned while outpatient pharmacy is usually owned by the hospital or the healthcare system like Sutter, Kaiser, Dignity Health, etc... Hope that helps!
@@pleasantcarepharmacy945 Thank you so much for your prompt reply this definitely helps. One last question - apart from the ownership and location of inpatient Vs outpatient are they similar in terms of basic prescription drug dispensing operations ?
Mam what about clinical researcher and ms in pharmacology whts the basics difference between them wht is better option after graduation in pharmacy for masters
Very informative video I really appreciate for sharing us. Also I wonder to know what type pharmacist you’re and which type is easier I am interested nursing but many people told me nursing school is very hard it has a lot of writing and the job is harder so I decided to switch pharmacy but don’t have any clue for pharmacy I am kind lost I don’t know what to choose while I am the first one of my family goes college without receiving any help. Also still I am struggling communicating English clearly and writing essays. I am fine now in college but I am nervous to university because of my poor English even though I passed my English classes an A. Please let me know if you have any idea which one is easier nursing or pharmacy and has less writing essays and presentation 💐
Hi, pharmacy school doesn't require you to write too much. A lot of multiple choices and memorization! I don't know about nursing school, but hope that helps :).
Siham ahmed ,we have kind of same issue but the difference is I really interested in pharmacy field. But still struggling with my English I have a concern to speak fluidly. Good luck for us !
@PleasantCarePharmacy Are there any good websites/sources you recommend for researching more about different types of pharmacy and the job market surrounding them?
You can check out www.pharmacist.com/ which is American Pharmacists Association. Also, there are local & state pharmacist association you can look up as well. Good luck!
Very informative video..good job..👍. I am from india and i just want to know one thing. Is indian B.Pharma is accepted in abroad like same as their pharmacy courses? Please reply
I have seen Indian pharmacists apply the pharmacist degree to US. However, you have to pass all the equivalency tests and other tests that I'm not familiar with. Good luck!
Hello! specialty pharmacy is a growing field. There are more specialty pharmacies that open up. You can read more about specialty pharmacy here. www.pharmacist.com/specialty-pharmacy. Thanks for watching!
people I still have question , what about the differences between clinical pharmacy and ambulatory care pharmacy .. I mean If i had a promotion in clinical pharmacy , may I get a permission to work as ambularoty care pharmacist as well ??
So is it after we took the bachelor of pharmacy and we can choose any field of this pharmacy to be involved or we have to further our studies to get more specialized knowledge?
Hello! I found this blog article that explains further about informatics pharmacy. Hope it helps you. I find it quite interesting :). connect.ashp.org/blogs/ron-burnette/2013/08/26/informatics-pharmacist-versus-it-pharmacist-whats-the-difference?ssopc=1
Hello, they often say it's the dose that makes the poison. Pharmacology/Toxicology often goes hand in hand. However, poison control is handled by Poison Control Center and that's not a pharmacy. Good question!
Hello, pharmaceutical engineer would not be a part of a type of pharmacy. I can see pharmaceutical engineers working for pharmaceutical companies rather than working at a pharmacy.
Sorry, that's something I cannot answer through this platform since it requires a lot. Best is for you to go volunteer at a pharmacy and see how it works. Good luck!
I have a question doc. Ahm, are these types of pharmacy a specialization? How can you be one of those? And does a Pharmacist also study medicines for animals?
Hi Jamie, I don't know what you mean by Ahm. Pharmacists are not specifically trained on animal medicines, but the principles do apply to animals. There are veterinary pharmacies out there.
Hello, i am a pharmacist from Turkey, i wonder if you take pharmacognosy courses in your school and then how to use your pharmacognosy knowledge in practice? Is there a pharmacist like herbalist in your country?
Hello! I think when you say pharmacognosy courses, it's the same as pharmacology in the US. Yes, we have to take all of those courses. In US, pharmacists are not exactly herbalist. However, I think there's definitely correlation. They always say it's the dose that makes the poison/drug. So there's definitely a transition from herbalist to pharmacist to toxicologist. Maybe in your country, they are the same, but here, they are 3 different professions. I used to be a toxicologist but now became a pharmacist. I love using natural herbs to help with common health issues, so I do practice a little bit of being an herbalist. Hope that helps :)
Pleasant Care Pharmacy thx for replying. In my country toxicology, pharmacology, pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical technology, and medicinal/pharmaceutical chemistry are departmans of pharmacy and pharmacists in my country are not only drug experts but also medicinal plant experts. And we can not be a herbalist either but we can recommend to our patients medicinal plant products or nutraceuticals. Moreover, i said we cannot be a herbalist but recently we have had an opportunity to be a medicinal plant expert like herbalist. We call them phytopharmacists. So i guess things are a little bit different in the USA. For example, clinical pharmacist is new here but in your country a pharmacist have been able to be a clinical pharmacist for 50 years. I hope things will be so better than now for pharmacists in future.
Hi! Since the time I made this video, there are more types of pharmacy. However, I would say that closed door pharmacy is a broad term. LTC pharmacy, infusion pharmacy, and specialty pharmacy are all closed door. The world of pharmacy is changing rapidly, so we will see more types of pharmacy coming out! Thank you for your comment :)
I was in a pharmacology program. Pharmacology is a graduate program where you can get an M.S. or a PhD degree. Pharmacist is where you get a PharmD degree. Hope that helps!
I suggest talk to your boss and let him/her know your goals and ambitions and how you can get there. Also get a mentor who you can talk to and ask for their advice.
Hello Harsha, great question! As the scope of practice for pharmacists change, the types of pharmacy will definitely change. There's oncology pharmacy, dermatology pharmacy such as Pleasant Care Pharmacy, or any kind of pharmacy that we (pharmacists) want to innovate and continue pushing the boundaries and creating new scope of practice for ourselves. This video is now 2 years old, and there have been many changes to the profession of pharmacy!
Hello! There are many subtypes of pharmacy as our profession continues to expand and our scope of practice changes. You are correct! Maybe it's time to update my video? :)
Hi! I actually went through the same agony. Unfortunately, the answer is something only you know. Make sure you expose yourself to both fields (medicine and pharmacy). I suggest you shadow pharmacists and doctors and also read online forums for those two professions. Do you homework! Good luck :)
Hi! I'm not understanding your question. Are you asking if you can get a job at a pharmacy with a four year degree such as a Bachelor's degree? In this instance, you can but you won't be working as a pharmacist or even as a pharmacy technician. You need to have a proper license to work as a pharmacist or pharmacy technician. Hope that helps!
