I like a clean DeskTop. I see it like a kitchen table. in the morning I have breakfast stuff on it ( working project) when done I put everything back. Lunch time (different project) lunch stuff gets put on the DT, then cleaned when done, etc and so forth. Good video a few good hacks, thanks!
For me, once I got used to stage manager it's my go to way to work. If you hit F11 you can also click the border instead of F11 to bring it all back. Thnx for another concise, informative video.
I'm going to start using that last tip, immediately! I've been wondering how to keep a separate collection of pictures and videos, which I would like to share during the zoom meetings, and have quick access to them without always minimizing and expanding the zoom screen. You've helped me. Again!
Gary you are the best. Often I need help navigating my Mac. I always find the exact information I need with your clear concise tutorials. I also learn more than what I was searching for. Thank you!
i use stage manager, i noticed in this video and the reveal desktop video, you mention when you have the the border that surrounds the desktop, you mention you can see those windows in the edge, in stage manger you cant see those windows, im sure you probably know this, others might not, just pointing this out. I loke the videos, even when i know stuff your talking about, i always try those mentions out just to be more familiar, thats how i noticed what i mentioned, i could only see the windows in the edge when i shut off stage manager. i love the feature stage manger. Right in the beginning of using stage manager, i moved my dock to the right side. Took some getting use to, however for me it made using my MBPro so much easier and more functional, its like 2 stage managers. one for your work and one for the dock, if thats makes any sense. I noticed with the dock on the right the desk top was more functional and seemed like a bigger work space. i also use hot corners as i mention in one of your videos, new now is little 1/4 green circles letting you know your entering hot corners. this was a great add on by apple to stop accidentally entering and a reminder you have those 4 spots for quick access.
The top row of your MacBook Pro has the function keys. Unless you have a model that as a Touch Bar. Is that the case? If so, then the function keys appear on the Touch Bar and you have a whole set of Settings to control that.
The real question is how to you get the Finder window to remember its last size? Every time I open Finder, I get this tiny window that I have to resize. I read sometime back a way to supposedly correct that, but it didn’t work for me. Seems a simple thing, but I have yet to find away to fix this.
Hello I have a question regarding my documents and download folders which were backed up by Dropbox the content disappeared but was not deleted. Is there a way to recover these.
Let me apologize in advance for asking an off-topic here, but coming from Windows, I struggle with several things. Can someone please tell me how to add/show the File Type column in the detailed view in Finder? Don’t shoot me, but it’s there in Windows Explorer and it’s very convenient. P.S. Thanks for another very useful tutorial. I’ve said before here but I’m going to say it again: If it weren’t for you, I would have gone back to Windows.
@@macmost : I really appreciate your reply, Gary! Yes, I meant detailed view and “kind” -I’m sorry, I’m a somewhat new MacOS user! Thanks for the help! Not to be greedy with your time, but is there a video where you’ve covered all the (other) ways to do that? Again, thanks!
@@vc07441 No, I don't know of an easy way to have a keyboard shortcut add a new space. Why do you need to add spaces so frequently that you need a keyboard shortcut? If I knew why, then maybe I could suggest an alternative.
@@macmost I was just trying to relocate different chrome windows into diff desktop so i can better organize them. becoz i always have lots of tabs and lots of different other apps window making the screen really crowded. It is very chaotics since they are for diff kind of task so i am thinking assigning them into seperate desktop maybe a good way. I hope there is some better way to do this.
@@vc07441 OK, so try that. You don't need a keyboard shortcut. Just create new Desktop spaces the normal way and see if this idea works for you. Or, maybe consider making each Chrome window a separate Full Screen Space instead of a window on a Desktop Space.
My F11 works the volume. I went to the settings, as suggested, and F11 was marked for desktop. The keyboard F11 still controls volume. Command F11 doesn't work. Pressing F brings up find. There was no stage manager in the same location as the video and I cannot find it under system preferences. All of this for one file that is on desktop 1 and cannot be placed on desktop 2, Chrome. Good times.
Years ago, with much older Macs, maybe. The idea was that it took time for each icon to render graphically and since these icons are always around on the Desktop, it would slow things down. But Macs today are so powerful that that is no longer a concern. But the old blog posts become myths and people still repeat them.
Maybe you have something else installed that does this. Normally, if you Option+Click the Desktop (or any other app) it will switch to that app and hide the app you were previously using. It just hides that one app. So it works if you were using just the Finder plus one app, and you have to be using the other app at the moment, not the Finder.
