In todays video we are back on the newly rented farm. We start off by finishing a small bit of bushing and fencing before moving the bulls onto their next paddock. And Rory is back again before they finish their travels and head back to new zealand. We make the decision to bring out the feeder wagon filled with a mix of silage and meal - what do you think - good decision?

You should bring up your own digger or massey 50b and dig up the big stones in the fields!!! The digger would be the right job

The cattle doing a good job, hopefully they help you find what fields can be used for silage. If only time and money wasn't an issue I guess you would plough everything to find the best parts for silage, crops and permanent pasture

Do you have a tractor with a loader that you could pickup the big stones as you find them as you deliver the feeding trailer. Also do you have a chain rake you could use to drag over the grass to help dethatch all the old growth?

run your flail mower or mulcher (idk how you say it across the pond) over that thick stuff. mulch it real nice and fine and it will break down nicely and allow for good growth to come through.

That scraggly grass is called thatch and it chokes off light and oxygen to new grass trying to grow.

Better to leave new grass come back and graze it again, then let it green up again and spray it off

If ye are feeding silage would it be worth strip grazing it too? The will eat it, plough it and expose more rocks. It might also be worth looking at maps from long ago online to see where there was old house's, sheds, wall's etc to help find more rock's. I bet there was some building where you showed all the rock's in this video.

Should really have been strip grazing, new strip daily, could even run some grain out on the ground. Then the get good grass and the rough stuff all together. What you’re doing is now they eat the good stuff then leave the rest, feeding the mix won’t help clean up fast. The quicker you have them cattle on good feed consistently the better mate.

Going to try strip grazing the next field and then move them to good grass paddocks on another farm for a week or 2 and then continue the process

@@FARMERPHIL3690 👍👍 can you put the bullocks in with the bulls? Big mob will get the clean up done quicker strip grazing. The cattle adjust to the system quick, strip of grass, some concentrate for energy and the rough stuff to fill them up. I’ve fixed up lots of farms this way.

Could you try an old drum rotary mower for cutting , great for rough stoney ground , stands alot more abuse than a disc mower . Great video as usual 👌
