You asked, and I've done this myself, so... I'm not quite sure why you didn't just keep the blade centered (vs offset) behind the tractor, angled it so the right end of the blade was closest to the right tire (as viewed from the rear), and added just a touch of tilt to the blade using the 3PH side link adjustment to lower the right side of the blade so it would be a little bit lower than the left side of the blade. You'd then do a down and back pass with the right tire moving along the center of your swale's path. That would have pulled the dirt to the outside of the swale, where it could then be picked up by the bucket. Note that each subsequent pass along the swale's path would have automatically dug the swale a little bit deeper, so you may have eventually needed to level the blade's tilt using the 3PH side link to then windrow the dirt completely out of the swale without cutting it any deeper.

@bluegrallis Год назад
Exactly what I would have done. It wouldn't matter which way you angle the blade, left or right, just drive down one side of the center line and back up the other side. No reason whatsoever to offset the blade to the side.

I have a similar blade made by southern I believe. I had the same problem and ended up welding on some extra flat steel to the plate with the holes and adding a couple more holes. Basically making the plate a circle with holes all the way around. It allowed me to adjust it any way I wanted. For ditching it works great offset throwing dirt out. Was relatively easy addition.

I had forgotten about Summit. I know Courtney over at Good Works Tractors is pretty high on them. I think I had taken them off my shortlist because they hadn't gotten into my area yet. That and I already have a 25hp sub-compact. If I'm still in the market when Summit comes out with something in the 35-55hp range I might look at them again, or if I need to replace my current sub. I remember being very impressed with all the standard features. Did you loose your fuel cap off the Hustler mower? I notices you forgot to put it back on after you fueled up! 😁 We don't miss nothin'! Sorry to hear about your neighbor and his horse. About 2 years ago we had to have my wife's horse she had for just over 31 years put down, so I can sympathize. It was tough. You are a good man and neighbor for helping him out. Thanks Brock! 🤠

Good morning Brock. I too was wondering why you didn't swing the blade the other way to pull the dirt out of the trench and as usual you gave us the answer before we could ask the question. Could it have worked that way with a regular blade or would there have been a similar problem? I was just wondering. I am sorry to hear about your neighbor's horse. The older we get the more attached we are to our animals/pets. They are like a member of our family. Thank you for helping him. You're a good man. God bless you for that.

Hi Brock. It would be useful and save time to have a dump trailer available. Instead of shuttling bucket-loads of dirt back and forth to the pond, fill the trailer and haul fewer loads.

Looks like a single bottom plow going one way then turn around and come back throwing the furrow outward, leaving the center trash free for a good starting point. Then use your angle blade. Drainage ditches look simple, just takes patience. Good luck 👍

Nice little Tractor for 5 to 10 acres. The more horsepower, hydraulic flow and the Tractor weights, the more you can do with it. I have 50 acres and have a 70hp New Holland and 50hp John Deere. You don't think you need a bigger tractor until you do. Larger hay bails, big logs, big rocks, unloading taller trailers and putting hay bails up high, 6 foot bush hogs and heavy grapples and so on. This tractor won't be large enough. I like it and the color, it has a lot of good extras. I would like to see what size tractors Summit comes out with next. Around a 35hp to 50hp tractor would a good size......😮

I live in Georgia. We had a tornado come through some months back and knocked the power out for over two weeks in some places. My neighbor bought one of the 25 HP Summit tractors a short time before the tornado hit. He called me and asked if I had a spare generator that he could borrow as his was having carb issues. I told him that I had a PTO unit that I use on my 1977 Ford 1600, and it was already hooked up on the tractor as we had just used it for 3 days continuous before our power came back on. I was expecting that he would just come drive my little ford 1600 back to his house and use it, but instead he brought his new shiny Summit tractor for the task. I helped him disconnect my old 45-year-old tractor and reconnect his new Summit tractor to the PTO generator. He heads off and gets the lights on in his house and all was good... well good until sometime into the night when he said the lights went out around 1am. I get a call and he sez," can I come get the old 1600 Ford as this POS Summit engine let loose last night and oil is everywhere" I said I would bring it to him and help get it hooked up. Long story short is that my 45-year-old Ford 1600 had ran nonstop with full generator load at wide open throttle for 3 days at my house and 2 days at his house with zero problem. These cheaply made tractors are good for the weekender but may not hold up to heavy usage. We bought the Ford 1600 new and it now had 5100 hours on it. The engine and transmission are original. It is on the 3rd clutch...
@jacobhendrickson8935
@jacobhendrickson8935 Год назад
Shoot there are 200 dollar generators that run for years and the summit engine should as well so this was most likely a factory defect or the generator was meant for a higher power tractor. Either way there are plenty of these tractors out there that have been worked hard for thousands of hours.

My little Ford had 22 HP when it was new 45 years ago which is 3 HP less than the neighbors 25 HP Summit. It wasn't an overload problem of the generator for sure :)@@jacobhendrickson8935

I just did same thing about same distance…I used a single plow and ran it both ways to set depth then used box blade set at angle tilt and drug the sides. I have no tiller and wonder if tilting it to loosen center more so than edges would work…then forget the sway on straight blade and set to kick out dirt to edge…use low end of blade set to inside rear tire width and set your tire in the trench. But hey…whatever works and there’s many ways to cook the chili

The blade should turn in any direction including backwards. Not sure about your situation but if you can't turn it in the other direction due yo it hitting the tractor its because the blade length is way longer than the unit its mounted to due to undersized tractor in comparison. Definitely should be able to dismount, turn and remount.

Yes, I did all of that but when you offset it, it can only angle certain directions. There are not holes to lock it in 360° around the bottom of the blade. There are some angles that the blade can reach, but you can’t lock it in.
