Have you ever extended the hoe? Does it lose a lot of digging power if you do? Just bought one of these and don't know much about them. Read that it's possible to add brake fluid to stop hydraulic leaks but a lot of people don't recommend it. Any ideas. Not terrible leaks but more than I'd like. Thank you

I have not yet had to use the extendable hoe, I imagine you would loose some power, but the 680 is regarded as being a pretty powerful platform, so I dont think it would matter much unless your digging stumps or boulders. I personally would not use the brake fluid. Your better off just fixing he leaks, even if its one at a time. I had to do all but two cylinders on my machine, the two I did not do had already been done recently before I got it. The seals were not much. and I did all but one myself. The one I did not do I just couldnt get it apart and gave to to a shop. The brake fluid I believe is thought to swell the seals, but It also will sell seals that are not bad, which might cause more issues. These hole alot of fluid, you would spend a small fortune later trying to flush all of the brake fluid out, and you likely would never get all of it. Many of my seals were so old and brittle that brake fluid swelling them would not have worked anyway because they were disintegrating. Fixing the leaks can be alot of work, it just takes time. I tore into mine and did many of them one right after the other in mid July working on asphalt millings and inside a shipping container. It was brutal, but in the end, the money I have saved from not loosing fluid has covered the cost of the repair kits, replacement fluid, and almost what it cost to have the shop fix the one cylinder. There is some tricks to getting the cylinders apart when they are super tight, but many of mine were not real tight due to the design case used where you line up a hole and put a screw in it. The special tools needed were not super expensive, but you will need a cutting torch to heat up the large nut on that holds the piston to the shaft, as it has some kind of lock agent on it, and a 1" impact gun will help with this nut as well. My gun is a cheap china unit, but has big air line and a big tank on the compressor. It will easily snap the studs right off a semi truck, but would not move that piston nut without it being hot. I just clamped the rod eye in my vise, supported the rod with blocks and then hit it with heat and the impact. I also had alot of leaks in the backhoe control spools, that one is easy, its all o rings. I was able to figure out the o ring sizes and just buy bulk o rings and now its dry as a bone. I still have some drips coming from the loader spool, I got the stuff to reseal that but haven't gotten time to take it apart and fix it yet.

I found one just like yours close to my farm. Don't know anything about backhoes but I need one to clean ditches out on muck ground during dry summer, some tiling, etc. It's supposed to be in good shape and he no longer needs it as he now has an excavator and getting older. Is there issues I should look for on this? 2 wd., no extend a hoe which I wanted both. Thanks for the video.

The only issues is getting parts. The 680 models were great machines, but not very popular, which lead to next to no aftermarket support, and most of the OEM parts have been sold and no longer manufactured. I hunt down and cross over part numbers everyday for the military trucks, so I have an edged up on finding things that will work. If I didn't have the ability to do that this machine would have likely been scrapped or parted out. For instance, the video I did on the steering, the whole reason I did what I did with the heim joints and DOM tubing was because there was nothing to be found for original parts. Other than that, if it is a solid tight machine, and you can get a deal, go for it.

Does this have a 267D engine? I’m having trouble finding an updated parts list/ manuals for filters and basic maintenance! They’re all hardcore rebuild shop manuals available. Any help would be awesome great videos!!

This does have the A267D engine, the one with the injection pump and fuel filters on the Right side if your sitting in the machine. The numbers you need for fuel filters are napa 3511, 3513, and Baldwin BF7726. The air filter is a napa 2222, oil filter should be a napa 1475 BF7726 is an odd one and hard to find, I found mine at zoro tools. If they dont have it you will just have to hunt thru google. The parts list I often use the case website and search under model for the parts manuals, then pic the one for my serial number. It is free to look at, but sometimes the info there isnt the best because if something is discontinued they sometimes dont even let you click on it. I ended up buying an old parts catalog on ebay as a back up.

@@bigmikesmotorpool9263 where is the serial number located on the 680?

@@johnhutchinson5604 If you are sitting in the operator seat facing forward, it is tucked under inside the left side of the body/panel/frame. Like put your foot near the pedals and move it outward, where you hit a steel wall, follow it up and it should be there. Kind of a hard spot to see, especially if you have a cab, but I guess it was put there to protect it. It is a rectangular plate attached by rivets, even if it got painted over, if its there it should be easy to notice.
