UUUUUUUUUUUUU seeing a TCG's first meta game is a beauty. Hoping this comes to america with a decent following. I wanna play Gabumon and a blue deck so badly.....
Vivien Joly the general release in January but if your card shop signed up for the “super pre sale” they get the starter decks and boosters in November 2020
This is the first video I've seen on this channel, but I've played TCGs my entire life and this has probably the highest production value and information density of youtube video about a TCG besides MTG.
Man, concretizing card game history in real time... so exciting! Have you been keeping up with international online tournaments? And if so, have anything to say about splits/similarities in its meta compared to Japanese tournaments? I'm really hoping for more black support. They're fun to play and beastly in casual games, but blocking becomes less important when players cautiously build up to splashy Lv. 6 Digimon for big end-game assaults. I'm happy they've set the groundwork for each color having unique & interactive removal, at least (so the game doesn't have to immediately launch suddenly into huge wipes or negation to balance itself), and I'm hoping for ruthlessly efficient De-Digivolve cards that make up for the mechanic's inability to generate board advantage.
It really feels like something's missing from Black, they trade well but they don't have good "kill cards" for endgame. I haven't been tracking the results of the international tournaments, it's harder to get data compared to Japan where shops are constantly throwing up decklists on Twitter and recording matches for YT.
Thank you so much for breaking down the metagame and the top cards that makes their color works. This is really important as the November super sneak preview is getting closer. For me and my friends in Indonesia, we have to play with the Japanese cards since it will be the one that would be legal for tournament play according to Bandai's regional rules. Though if Bandai doesn't have any sanctioned tournaments, we can play with English cards. Though I don't see the point of collecting or playing if there's no official support here. Again very awesome job on the video. Keep up the great work!
Another great vid! I went and binged your older vids after your "Why Digimon is blowing up" vid and love your stuff! Great pacing and followable summarizing.
I really loved the section of the video where you went through specific Red decklists, the full decklists, it was really insightful to see all the specifics and how the lists evolved and it was disappointing that for Blue and Yellow you really only talked about the key cards. It also would've been good to talk about Groundramon since for the stated goal of evolving towards Omegamon as cheaply as possible, Groundramon would've been better, yet MetalTyrannomon was chosen, so vanilla choice was clearly not just about how cheap they are but also picking high DP vanillas to dodge Security Digimon. Also, I do think the claim that a completely even split in tournament wins is what a balanced game should have, but there's a lot more factors here. The biggest is simple popularity. Even if all 6 colors are similarly powerful, some will be more popular, maybe to significant degrees based on factors like price, the skill required to pilot, or simply aesthetic appeal. And even when all the colors are fairly balanced in power level and *somehow* popularity as well, if different colors have varying amounts of different archetypes that are competitively viable that's going to lead to an imbalance in win % even if each individual archetype has evenly spit tournament wins. Overall through, great video, looking forward to future tournament coverage.
I think its super important to also acknowledge that over time a card game doesn't travel towards colour balance (in terms of win percentage) equally. Magic has had many "winters" where things were completely nightmarish in terms of competitive play and even as we are talking about this new game is in a position where green has been the dominant colour in various formats for upwards of a year now which sounds insane until you realise that all the colours will have to have this time in the sun to make up for the amount of time Islands and blue decks have had for themselves. It's important to tell a new card gamers base that yes. colour x might be the best thing right now, but win percentages are wholey reflective of game experience and stick with your game long enough and your card/colour/faction/team will have its time in the sun.
Ulforce also can brick quite easily due to their high tamer count or if they dont draw Veedramon or Tachi to start their draw engine. In additional alot of them dont play Matt or play few copies. This means opp can stuck them at 1 memory thus slowing their big play, thats also the reason many of them play hammer spark or digimon that give memory when destoryed.
Great video. Been following this TCG before it even launched and I'm stoked to see it doing well even in these difficult times. I actually have the original starter decks and two New Evolution boxes. Was thinking about getting some Ultimate Power and this upcoming booster box but apparently lBandai seems to be blocking stores online from selling digimon cards. Maybe it's a sign it's coming to the west
Shine Graymon Being my Favourite Graymon Variant, and Angemon line being my favourite childhood Digimon, it seems the game already choose my deck Collor.
Minor correction. You said that it was easy to give Omegamon security attack +1 with bt-1 Taichi, but Taichi only gives security attack +1 to red Digimon. So Omegamon, who is white, can't take advantage of that effect.
@@josh0628 lier he is red and blue in color fusion digimon take the color of their digimon one for example omnimon is red and blue and millenium is purple and black for example
saying a percent should be closer to a certain number because of perfect balance is ignoring the fact that all colors do not have equal popularity. Im certain that even if you consider blue the most powerful deck of the format your overlooking how more popular it is. Example: If a tournament has 64 slots and 32 of those entered are blue players you are almost guaranteed a top by blue even if it is the worst deck because the deck is the most prominent. Overall great video and getting me hyped for the English release.
Another point missed out in this video is deck uptake, If the field before game 1 is already 50% Red and say only 10% Green then Red is already more likely to take a top result even if it isn't dominating. Red and Blue are main characters with base set support which makes them a popular pick but also a greater investment cost for the player to pick up any other colour later (until all colours have theme decks and set support).
Truly a shame Black doesn't have the big plays, it's actually my favorite color right now. But it's big name cards are the underwhelming Milleniummon and Diablomon, which, on top of both of them technically not being Black, both get wrecked by Omegamon.
Is the game expensive in Japan?? I saw the starter decks were sold for 500 yen which is very cheap, but are singles expensive? do you generally get your money worth out of packs? (or do you throw away most cards you get?) Also, how much of a budget gap is there between building a tier 1 competitive deck and a fun well built tier 2 deck? I saw some singles going for waaay too much on amazon, but maybe they were event exclusives i'm not sure.
Singles are mostly cheap until you hit the alt art parallel cards. Most of the regular Super Rares are 480~1500 yen the only expensive one is Omegamon's SR at ~5000. The four Secret Rares are the worst offenders because they don't have a "normal" rarity print, they're all pricey bling cards ranging 2000~6000 yen. Packs are never worth it unless you're going in on a case split with a group, it's always more cost effective to order singles. I'd recommend using a proxy shipper like Tenso to order cards from Japan, the prices international sellers are charging don't reflect the actual value of the cards at all. (TCGRepublic charging $2 for a Common lol)
I hope this game doesn’t do a set rotation like Pokemon. Having to buy a new deck each set is what made me stop playing. Also I see a limit to Omegamon if not a ban
From the Chrono X fangame, I put all of the song titles and artists at the end of each video/series. Here's a link to one of em: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F8YAaXcqfsU.html
