hey! got a few questions about how it would work if you put the stands in a three tier setup with the elektron devices and cables. I should have shown this more clearly. I have now uploaded an addendum on Instagram which hopefully clears up any confusion. I always appreciate honest and constructive criticism, thank you! Watch here: instagram.com/p/CPSdUlPBK5_/? (let me know if it doesn't work as I am not used to sharing IG links on YT) Here’s the written answer to the 3-tier question. Firstly: low profile or angled cables would be best. Secondly: If you dont put the second tier in its most angled position you can actually tuck the cables in between the legs of the third stand. This is also why I said that I don’t think this is the best solution for a three tier system. I think this is an ideal stand for having one row behind a synth for example as shown in the video. It makes the digis very accessible behind a synth. And if you need to you could add a second even higher tier (like I show) but would then have to make sure you have small cables or angle the stand back more. I should have been more clear. When making videos its easy to think something is obvious and that no one will care about a certain detail. Its this constant struggle between making videos snappy and containing just the right amount of info. Writing all this I realise that this is what I should have put in the video to begin with. So thanks for reminding me.

something i think is cool is that a lot of elektron boxes are built with mounting points for a standard vesa arm, so anything with a normal vesa mounting point will line up with the screw holes on the bottom

Table top stands are the best yet hardest to find at this scale. I save so much space building up since I don't always have the option to install on walls with apt rentals. It's a solution that also makes my work station feel more organized and professional.Thank you for reviewing this item with us.

It's easy to find flat free-standing tabletop shelves like monitor stands... but surprisingly difficult to find angled free-standing risers which are big enough for synths. Notebook risers are usually the closest I can find, and they're almost all too small and not adjustable. So I ended up making mine out of old "Construx" toys I had in storage.

I agree completely the custom metal made is so much better and I absolutely love what you have showcased here! I’ve been using metal music reading stands but my setup is all stands, not tables. I came up with what I did to easily break it down and transport it. Unfortunately I had a stroke and can’t play any of it until I recover, but once I do, I will be getting this system, and yes, it would be worth it to me for my Waldorfs as well, to me. Great point on supporting the independent creator. This was exactly what I was looking for with my current setup! Ordered a set for my Digitakt and a stand that will help it mix with one of my Roland boutiques. But the reason I'm mainly interested is that I was looking for a solution to combine it with a bigger synth as you explained in the beginning of the video. The way I can set this up was exactly how I imagined it to be. Thanks a lot for sharing and it's super kind of you to use your platform to support an independent creator like this.

Thanks for showing this. Digitakt owners are always looking for "the stand". Most of us have weird wooden builds and ipad stands repurposed and it's just not very solid. I think I have a cool idea for Sven: for musicians who have a minimal setup with for example two electron devices and 2 or 3 19" racks for effects and processors. The possibility to have an enlarged VD 105 module in which the racks could go and the Digitakt/tone above. This would create an ultra compact setup but with full accessibility to all the devices.

I would put a couple small bricks under the elevation risers to weigh it down so it never tips forward. I actually use bricks and wood slabs to build shelves in my home studio. It works really well for me for elevating things, but I like these stands. I my self will probably purchase two VD 100s & two VD 160 plates for my Digitakt I own, and the Digitone I have to purchase. I don’t need the VD 105 Elevator’s in my current set up, but knowing I can add them on later is cool. I just want my two Digi units on a solid angle to help the view of the screen and my neck. I can foresee a custom pelican style hard case for transporting them both with the stands attached since they fold down. That’s only if I ever gig with them. First thing is first though… order the Digitone tomorrow.

For 2 synthezisers like Digitakt / Digitone and/or Analog Heat you can use the Roadworx Synthesizer Stand pretty well vor 29 Euros. If you buy 2 of them and a connection kit you can stack them. That seems a better solution for me. Varistand it's a little pricy for what it can do.
@BoBeats

I think the difference is the steeper angle you can have the digis at with this and the modularity. the roadworx looks useful too
@TheTechnobear
@TheTechnobear 3 года назад
I really like this... quite tempted... what Id like to see is a perhaps a bit more 'modularity'. e.g. Id like to have my octatrack, a 60hp eurorack, a pyramid all sitting behind my synth. currently this means buying 3 bases, 3 elevators 3 trays ... pretty much 90euros each (30+30+30) what id like is some kind of bigger base/elevator , perhaps extendable? that could take multiple trays. I think many of us would be happy to sacrifice the independence each units, since we'd likely want multiple units at same height/tilt angle (perhaps in the meantime, some kind of multiple buy discount?) the other thing id like, is would be something (bigger trays?) for a 6U eurorack, say 84hp ... or even 9U. anyway, great design... thanks for hightlight Bo.

Solid feedback for Sven and I agree: often we want a larger ”system” of stands.
@svenbauer6970
@svenbauer6970 3 года назад
This question comes up more often. However, unlike other stands, we generally want to avoid locking devices together. For this there are already plenty of 2-tier, 3-tier etc... Only if the devices remain flexible in themselves, you get the desired individual ergonomics. But I will certainly dive into this topic again and see if there might be another clever solution to this. In any case, thanks for the feedback!
@TheTechnobear
@TheTechnobear 3 года назад
@@svenbauer6970 I don't think there are many options for bigger instruments on the **desktop** - there are quite alot for smaller units (like digitakt) sure, separate units helps with ergonomics, as different instruments might need setting back further or different height to get facias aligned. (though, id still want to lock them together, to gain some extra rigidity/stabiity) - but for sure, its a compromise for price.

I agree with your point on supporting independent businesses that focus on specific markets. But the import process from Europe or America to Asia (where I'm based) is so tedious, plus the ridiculous currency exchange rate with us being on the lower side keeps me from buying gear abroad (I only buy what's necessary) and look for cheaper alternatives where I'm at. If it's a 15$ stand but it does its job while I'm saving to get a better one then so be it.

Hey Bo, I really want to hear your opinion about whether digitakt or digitone should i buy first. I am DJ ing for a long time now and playing mostly raw/hypnotic techno and i also like to keep it simple, minimal but also trippy. I also start to do some productions using Ableton without hardware but it is not going well as i would like to. Especially when i start a project, lining some kick, manuplate it add some features and try to get an idea feels not so insparatual to me. I am looking for some drum machine - sequencer and i heard digitakt is a beast for doing that(also watch all of your guides, they are brilliant). But i also see many of techno producers i have been following most likely switch digitakt to Octatrack at some point but never actually drop their digitone. So i keep asking mysely, is digitone a better alternative to buy for long term. Can i use digitone as sequencer good enough to learn elektron workflow. Or should i just start with digitakt and save money to buy also digitone. I made tons of reseach and couldn't decide it yet. Your opinion means a lot to me. I am also happy to see you well and healthy. Keep up with your good work Bo and i wish you health in this crazy times!

Heya! I think Digitone might actually suite you better since it can do chords and polyphonic stuff. But its so difficult to say. Digitone is mainly a sample player and its mono. Its actually quite good for techno too. But you wanted my opinion: unless you are dying to work with a sample based workflow i’d say the digitone is alot of fun and sounds pretty great. It can do drums too, just remember thats its an FM synth and drums will have a particular vibe to them

@@BoBeats Hey Bo. It is so nice of you to reply. Since i am making research about elektron boxes i have watched many of your videos so i am a big fan of your channel already! I just wanna ask you few more things if it is possible. It is very hard to find answers to this questions since both of the mashines are pretty good and it is great to find some answers from an experienced musician like you. I can only buy one of them at the moment that is why i am trying to be careful, also i won't be able to buy any hardware soon. So if you could only have one of them using it together with a DAW which one would be better choice? Is DAW a good way to bypass digitone s only 4 track limitation? I am totally inexperienced with hardware, even digitakt is sample based, manipulating them with lots of option could be better for learning music production better, or are they similar in that manner? I have no special feelings about sample base production but i also i understand that digitakts detailed tweaking settings makes it a strong groove box. Is digitone as powerful as digitakt at this manner. Also i don't have any other drum synt or keyboard so i won't be making my own samples either. Digitakt being mono is that big of a deal when you producing? Sorry if i trouble you too much with my questions Bo. I really wanna make best choice and i it is hard to find someone as experienced as you to ask this questions. I wish you best and thank you for your great content!

No worries and I will try and answer: For using it with a computer the Digitone will be most fun I think. This is because the computer can manage drums no problems, and its quite fun having external synths to play with. But to complicate things further: unless you want to use digitone standalone now and then I would also look at synths like Minilogue XD. That one is also great for just having as a part of your computer setup. The elektron boxes are absolutely best standalone as their internal sequencers are really cool. So if you are looking to integrate with your daw setup a minilogue xd takes more advantage of your DAW.

Something like this for the MC-101 that doesn't cover the headphone jack should be nice. I've been using a old tablet stand but with that I can use only USB or Line audio. BTW, who in Roland thought that having the headphone jack in the bottom was a good idea?

You simply can't compare to the Ikea stands - while cheap and reasonably functional, they have too much give when you use the push encoders on Elektron gear. It makes the experience a little mushy and results in the stands slowly creeping across your desk with every press.

Exactly.
@BoBeats
@BoBeats 3 года назад
this is my bad for not showing: if you angle the second stand (so not the absolute steepest) you can actually fit cables ”inside” of the third stand. But like I also said in the video: I am not certain this is a ideal use case, and mostly showed it because its a possibility but maybe not 100% what I would call functional. But my bad for not just hooking up cables and showing.

Again, I think this is really cool and something that many have been asking for. Though, I notice that there's none made for the bigger Elektron boxes. But I guess that the universal tray can be used, even though it's a little small, it might be stable enough.
@BoBeats
@BoBeats 3 года назад
I would not use the universal tray for the Mk2 units as they have a sort of rounded design.

@@BoBeats the depth of the universal tray is 15 cm, so that's only a couple cm difference. The length is 25, so that's 9 cm difference. 4,5 on each side. Shouldn't be a problem really 🤔😊

its vesa.... can I mount a monitor to it?that could make a cool stand for like a mixer panel display or something
@svenbauer6970
@svenbauer6970 3 года назад
There are different VESA formats available. Small monitors often use 75x75mm, larger screens have 100x100mm. The elektron devices are 100x100 and so is this adapter. However, I think it is important to note, that the Varidock adapter is constructed in a way so that the Elektrons are perfectly balanced on their VESA mounts. That is a significant difference to what those generic VESA monitor feet usually offer. Now if you want to mount something else than an Elektron to the Varidock, you should check beforehand if the VESA size is compatible and if the positioning of the mounting holes will work at the desired angle.

you would angle the second tier slightly to make the cables fit, or use angled cables. But yes, its a weakpoint that I should have shown more clearly.

@@BoBeats that is what i meant, with 3 the angle would not be possible. i brought that up because often companies (not you) show gear without cables. your addendum avoids frustrated customers, who themselves do not think about the cables before buying. i liked the 3 tier with the angle, but as you showed in the addendum, sadly it is not working with the current version, but maybe they rethink it and change it in the future..

I spend a lot of time thinking about stuff like this. I'm sure it's worth the price. I'm using a wire shoe shelf from Fred Meyer, it's cheap, a tad wobbly. And I am not saying you should go to Fred Meyer instead of the artisan synth stand maker. Also, I had to modify the shoe stand big time to get it to work. I could definitely see myself building synth stands at some point. So, go to the small artisan synth stand maker for sure. Fuck Fred Meyer.

I usually like your videos but I don't think you should call this one a review. You apparently did not play even 5 min with the stands. There was no cable been used and only quick clips of you randomly twisting knobs in a turned off device were shown. When you considered using 3 on a vertical it made me cringe.. I hope you get this as a valid criticism. People trust you. If you start a video saying it is not sponsored, I expect an honest description of your experience using the product, preferably after some days of use.
@BoBeats
@BoBeats 3 года назад
I appreciate the feedback and its a good reminder to be even clearer with what I show on video. What I record on video isnt always representative of what I have done with a product. I often film, test stuff some more, film a bit. So sometimes the video I shoot doesn’t cover everything I have done. But I should have filmed even more as this was clearly something people wanted to see. Based on yours and others feedback I wrote a stickied comment detailing the 3 tier system more clearly. Hopefully this helps. As for my time spent with Varidock this is the second video I’ve made about it so I have some experience with the stands. I am sorry if I did not convey this experience clearly enough in the video, and its a good reminder not to assume things and just be even more clear.Thank you.
