Digitakt II: Making a Track with AstroLab

This week I'm making a song / track / beat from scratch with the Elektron Digitakt 2 and the Arturia AstroLab (both provided by zZounds links below). This is a pretty awesome combo. I'm not sure it's the best beat I've ever made but it was a good time and hopefully watching the process of making it is helpful!

Thanks for the cool on the spot demo, I really enjoyed it and learned few new things! By any chance, would you know if there are different firmwares, because compared to all the YT videos I have checked, some of the menus are different on mine (monitoring option when sampling and the menu that allows you to exclude track from the comp)? Thanks in advance!

Thank you! And yes there have been some firmware updates, you can update with the Elektron Transfer app and download the update from the Elektron website I believe

Hoping Overbridge comes to iPadOS. Can you route the 16 tracks via usb on iPad? Would be sick to use with AUM.

That would be awesome! Audio over usb class compliant is just stereo main output I think, need overbridge for multitrack out. Not even out on pc yet for the 2 but hopefully soon, and agreed that it would be awesome to have that on iPad as well

Great video! I was wondering how you would compare the workflow from sketching ideas to finished track in 1) Digitakt 2 + Ableton Live (once Overbridge works) vs. 2) Push 3 + Ableton Live? Which one would you recommend based on your experiences so far? I am looking for a fast, intuitive but also FUN way of not just producing pattern but finishing full songs :)

That’s tricky with over bridge not out as you said but I’ll still try! If you could only have one, and money wasn’t an issue, probaaaaably the push 3 for its suuuuuper solid integration with Ableton and the MPE pads / built in synths (assuming you also have Ableton suite. Digitakt II with a good synth paired is a LOT of fun though and feels more musical? Less like working with daw and more like crafting audio somehow

That beats turned out coooool man. And yeah, I'm definitely gonna have to cop one. I'll probably wait until Overbridge is integrated, though. I'm getting more and more into techno/house/IDM and I don't know if there's a better hardware option than the Digitakt 2. It seems like it's easy to record audio loops from a keyboard too since you can record during pattern play, right?

Thanks man! Hopefully over bridge comes soon! You can definitely record using the threshold arm option, I still need to see if you can start sample record and pattern play at the same time with a count in though, there’s still a lot I have to learn with this one

@dylanParisMusic It's a nice beat, but a beat isn't a song. A good followup would be about techniques to transition from a beat to a song. Cheers;)

Good callout! I definitely have other videos where I do this with other gear but still pretty new to the Digitakt. Once I get a better understanding of song mode I’ll make something about it, but in the meantime I’d recommend checking other creators out to see how they leverage song mode
