Yes not the same kind of experience at all. I am very fast with my Leica M, with this Hasselblad, I slow right down, use it a lot on a tripod. The files are amazing, but the camera is slow. It all depends on what and how you want to take photos. But both are great.

I am strongly considering a GFX50s as the lenses are more in my price range however I had the chance to use the Original X1D when it was released for taking my own wedding photos on a tripod with the help of a friend to push the focus and shutter button. I was blown away by the detail and results. I do have an Xt3 which I Love the Fuji files but there was something about that form factor and IQ of the X1D I'm still lusting over it.... I also own a 500CM too so I'm a bit biased to Hasselblad.

@Quinton Gordon: Good point you made. Same here, coming from the analogue world and having done most of my analogue work on 6x6, 6x7 or 4x5, I fully agree. I am using the Hasselblad X1D (Ver1) for years and in parallel I have started with the Leica S System as my nature/landscape backbone, I am often asked on the speed (lack of) of both systems, thre crapy AF and so forth - but I don't care. I am still working as if I would use my view or MF camera, getting the right angle, getting the right view, lighting and so forth and then working from a sturdy tripod, having the workflow clean end-to-end, think twice before you press the button...I tend to think that this was a good and precious school for me...and I still keep my 4x5 Toyo and Arcas, shooting b/w from time to time, just to keep my brain awake...

@@toddkorolphoto I bet you do. I cant say I’m in love with the style of the 100s but its a very easy camera to use once set up how you want it and very programmable. I get the design simplicity and ergonomics of the European brands like hasselblad. I’d love to try and compare the images with the hasselblad lenses. Maybe one day.

@@rogerhyland8283 Yes no question, the 100s is great. I do not fall into the category of "it's just one camera and I hate the rest" I think it's great we have so many choices, and each camera company pushes the other one to do better. The Fuji's are really nice and the files are great. But there is something about the Hasselblad files that are just really special, it's just like comparing 35mm to medium format, tonal separation, the depth, just really great files. Everything is so good these days.

@@rogerhyland8283 seriously I don’t think you can go wrong with either. The Fuji is a lovely camera. Personally I like the actual feel of the X1D better and for me I like the files better out of the Hasselblad. But I really do think both are great!

Yes the 500 is simply a classic. I came close to getting a H3 or 4 a few times, I should have. Just didn’t understand the real slow down part yet. Those are great cameras as well.

I've avoided it as long as I can but the time has come I think. Really can't go wrong with either. They are both slow, but it's about image quality, it's like shooting a film camera.

True, but with the 4x5 colour film I shoot, and medium format colour film plus developing scanning etc, I could easily rack up a $15-20K film bill a year...

This isn't correct and the Hasselblad brand hasn't been out of business! Like many other companies, they are owned by parent companies (Hasselblad have had quite a few over the years) but the products are still designed and (mostly) built in Sweden including the latest 907x. DJI just happen to be the current owners of Hasselblad

@@deanmitchell7795 Much like Ferrari is owned by Fiat. Because their parent company isn't the best doesn't mean their own quality has to be lowered. They still make some very good quality equipment.

Correct, it is owned by DJI but still made by the people who have designed and run Hasselblad in Sweden.

The X1D II is not square it's 546 format, but, you can set it up in the menu to shoot in square format so you are looking through the viewfinder in the square format. When you download the RAW, you get how it was cropped but you still get the whole 645 image the camera shot, best of both worlds.

The bracket is a ProMediaGear bracket, I have the 30, 45, 65 and 90mm lenses for the Hasselblad.😉

Man your camera collection sounds like mine! ;-) Haven't tried that Fuji I was referring to the Fuji GFX 50R medium format. Personally I just found the Hasselblad made out of metal seems more solid. And also, Both take great images! In the end it's all about the image.

@@toddkorolphoto Thanks for the reply, and the clarification... I get it now. I don't like the look of the medium format Fujis but have considered them for the future, but realise now your remarks weren't aimed at the XT range, which seem as well built to me as most. As for the collection, sadly little left now. After ridiculous chopping and changing (and stupid financial losses - sold the M4 and M4P just before the explosion in prices for 1/2 what they would cost me now; ditto the R8, R9 and R6.2), just two EOS1s. mint OM2 and scruffy Om1 and 3 Minoltas (SRTs and an X5 worth about $25 !) and a beautiful Alpa 10D (now that IS well built!). Plus an old mint Zeiss Contaflex just because it looks so nice. I didn't mention the Horseman 4x5 monorails (excellent), the Super Technika - traded before even used, like the Arca Swiss, doh - the Gandolfi (overrated), Penatx 645 sold for a loss with 3 lenses after 2 rolls (much of this "get, lose, re-get, re-lose..." triggered by my vulture of a very expensive and selfishly absorbed Ex - she is one I don't regret losing!) and a Leica Monochrom 246. I regret giving in on that so soon but it came, new, with a filthy sensor and was forever getting dust spots even without lens swapping. Others reported the same - so much for legendary build quality there. But back to the Fuji XT 2 - great little camera, should have kept it!

@@kronkite1530 You have had some great cameras. I too have had and unfortunately gotten ride of some many camera I kick myself. A Pentax 645, a Contax 645, Pentax LX, a Makina, a great Arca Swiss field camera. I did however keep my Leica M6 from over 20 years ago, will never git rid of that. Also I don't fall into the camp of one camera system is definitively better than another like Fuji vs Hasselblad. I think they are both great. I often tell people who ask, go and try a system out, see what feels best in your hands, and what menu system you like the best. You really can't buy a bad camera these days. For me, I love the feel of the X1D and how I have to use it, it keeps me slow like a film camera and hopefully thinking more.

@@toddkorolphoto My trouble is that the operative word is “had”! Terminal GAS. But, I will return to the digital fold at some point. A Hasselblad back to fit the 500cm would be rather nice!

Well with some of these papers and inks they say it will last 2-300 years. The printing I am doing with my paper really looks amazing. Everyone I show them to loves them.

I use a program called FastRawViewer to look at the RAW files, it's very quick and I make my selects, the ones that I will work with on that program. And yes they come into that program as the full 4x3 colour files. I then move my selects to a folder then open up Phocus and import them into Phocus. I work on the files in there, not a great program but great colour science. I do my final weeks in photoshop. Sounds like a lot of work, but really very quick and seamless. I am not a fan of LR. Your process sounds great, for me it's all about slowing down and trying to make a really nice image. Cheers and thanks for watching!

I think sometimes it doesn't look natural because people are actually cropping the image in photoshop, but this just shoots in a square format, I find it's a lot more natural than cropping an image. You are seeing square.

Oh don’t get me wrong, I still Love film!! But for some things I am doing now it’s becoming impractical. 400 rolls of 120 film pretty much now buys you a digital medium format body and lens. For me it’s a little bit more about work. I will always shoot film, it’s just become very hard and expensive now.

Nope. It’s still slow and sometimes frustratingly it can’t find focus. But, I use it like a medium format film camera and just go slow. The quality of the files is still amazing, I was using it on assignment today and the results are great. I just don’t use it for anything that needs fast focus.

Yes Kodak film here in 50% more than Ilford film, it's crazy. And camera stores can't get Kodak film direct from Kodak they have to go through distributors who also crank up the price. It's very sad to see it all come down to this. The photo at 9:07 was about 3 minutes of great light that often happens out here after a day full of clouds. Cheers!

Sorry you can't but I have a bit of a work around. I was going to explain but then I thought I would confuse too many people, so I am going to do a separate video on my settings. Depending on the lighting, I set my colour temp way up and then play around with the tint, I can make the image look pretty monochromatic or with a bit of a sepia look. It will freak people out when then bring the image into the computer, but of course when you shoot just RAW, it's just one click to get it back into daylight, and of course I convert everything into b&w. I realized after I uploaded the video I should have explained that much better. My apologies.

I've tested that myself, but I have to try it again. A monochrom setting for the display and viewfinder would be awesome. Keep up the good work👍 High five ✋

Yes just a lovely little system, that new 45 P is crazy good. I am printing on an Epson P900 on Canson Platine Fibre Rag, just amazing paper.

You know after I uploaded the video I realized I didn't mention that. I have a few but for all of these shots I just used the 45mm, but when you crop it square it gives you the equivalent of around a 75mm on a film camera.

Well, just did my taxes and my b&w and colour film, developing and darkroom bill for all my formats, 35mm, 120, 4x5 and 8x10 was a lot more than the camera, so not just $15 a roll. But yes, not cheap.
