Lacey games has the vibe of when you are just starting to grow out of those old girls go games type websites. When you start to realize why THAT family member isn’t allowed near the kids by himself. Why THAT teacher keeps dress coding you. Why THAT kid keeps stalking you in the halls.
I can see Gradient Joe from Bugbo being a tumblr sexyman. I dont know exactly how i feel about that, but i can see that the recipe is there and that its only a matter of time. Edit: i have no idea if this comment predates it, but MY BOY HAS A SEXYPEDIA ARTICLE WE DID IT!!!
The bugbo show honestly gives me very ‘early internet’ “Smiling Friends,” vibes and I need to watch it now since I’ve seen Smiling Friends more than 3 times in showing others.
The bugbo outro song reminds me heavily of the smiling friends one. It also makes sense though, smiling friends is basically just a newgrounds animation on television. If you liked smiling friends though you should check out "yolo crystal fantasy", it's also made by micheal cusack one of the Co-creators of smiling friends, and it's a pretty solid show as well.
@@patratrick I LOVE Yolo Crystal Fantasy but I got into it because Rick and Morty’s April fools special in 2019 maybe 2018 was drawn by the same person and I found it hilarious.
Chezz kids is probably the closet thing to this, I think it'd be so sick if someone could make an actual website to explore though. That'd blow my mind
I normally don't reiterate something is incredibly dark, as most of what I cover is horror themed, but yeah I really wanted to make sure I warned everyone.
idk, i feel like it just tries way too hard to be scary and becomes more goofy than anything the main problem i have with it is the distortions, it's a trope that bothers me to no end
Holy shit I did not expect Lacey to actually bring me to tears. Though I do have my own personal reasons for being so,, weirded out and triggered by the contents of the game, I suppose. I was given a warning ahead of time, and I recognize that, it's my bad for not heeding it. Fucking phenomenal. 10/10.
Yeah real the second one didnt affect me as much as the first one, it’s not just spooky shit and cryptids, its real monsters and predators, really good in combo with a tween girls dress up game format
I swear being told a jumpscare was coming made it 10x scarier and caused me to panic and turn down my volume. I'm honestly excited to find more of these flash horror styled videos in the future (great video by the way)
Hahah I try to give warning cause I'm a bit traumatized by early youtube screamers, but yeah sometimes knowing it's coming is way worse. Thanks for watching though, glad you liked it :)
That's awesome hope you feel better soon! I wish I had more content on the channel for you to binge... If you wanted some nonhorror stuff though, I do always have my second channel... @ratpatrick
17:34 I've seen a lot of shit over the years of watching random creepy youtube videos, but this thing, this is one of the things that actually gave me chills just by looking at it. It aint just some face added for "ooh spooky face" and it isnt some deafening screech when for no reason. It's simply an eerie and disturbing face almost representing the potential evil in the character, contrasting the simplistic, if a bit creepy, design of the rest of the "game".
I love Lacey’s games so much it’s the first I’ve seen of it and it nails horror so fucking well and is one of my favorite aesthetics. I’d also love elaboration on Poochie too!! I love that you’re covering obscure games no one else is so I have my bell on for you! I wouldn’t have heard of these without you EDIT; I’d also love it if you gave mroe lore of Lacey’s games bc it can be triggering and it’s a lot easier to get it through another person rather than do it myself and upset myself
I'll probably revisit lacey at a much later date, as more comes out for it. I just recently stumbled across it, and knew I had to cover it, and hopefully get so more eyes on the project itself.
gosh oh golly, i remember watching poochie and pansy when i was a kid, and it scared the absolute shit out of me. i’m so glad you talked about it cause it’s one of my favorite strange internet args and it reeks of old scary internet stuff, the jump scares the images, it’s so interesting!
Another digital horror series that I'd like to add to this entry is Fazbear Toddler Fun and Morley Grove. Fazbear Toddler Fun is an interesting take on the FNAF series, as it focuses on the events of FNAF 2 and 4, telling its story through a format of old RU-vid videos showing gameplay of a kids computer game made by Fazbear Entertainment from 1997. As for Morley Grove, it's a series that centers its story on a strange phenomenon regarding an urban legend that's known as the Morley Man. An interesting thing to note about Morley Grove is that the creator behind this series, RemyAbode, is the same guy who made Gemini Home Entertainment and Warding 12.
yea...that first lacey game gave me the creeps XD that face is so uncanny that it legit scared me, I still have goosebumps even after finishing the video
the 2007 lacey game hits different for me. i have the inattentive type of adhd and my whole childhood was just adults telling me that i did things too slow and getting very impatient with me. i’ve always gotten the “your best isn’t enough” from my mom - it’s really disheartening to be so confident in yourself after doing your personal best only to realize that you’ll always end up at the bottom of the barrel. it feels so unfair, like everyone else has this secret tool to life that you’re missing. lacey deciding to off herself may seem overdramatic to most people, but you really do start to feel like the world doesn’t need “useless” people like you, especially if you haven’t been diagnosed with anything.
Oh my God, yes. You described it SO well. I went through the same thing my whole childhood and it's a horrible experience that really sticks with you. I found Lacey's fear/distress towards failure very relatable, and her angry rant really hit close to home. Lacey's games have certainly been a rollercoaster, but I'm really glad that I found them because of how well they represent these feelings. The wardrobe game is also one of my favorite pieces of digital horror because of how executed it's horror was, it really scared me a lot
Not gonna lie, the Lacey Games videos are well made, the scenes are bone chilling which goes down through my spine, as if it was an abandoned game that has something mysterious in it.
i'd agree, but it just tries way too hard to be scary the distortions specifically, it's a trope that bothers me to no end, cause it's not scary at all, just fucking annoying "oh boy! we're in horror mode now! oh look the music is weird, i should be scared!! i should be scared!!" and it really gets to me cause it's so damn close to being great too..
1:39 *I’m not doing that* 3:07 *I don’t like it; I want it gone; Joe, cut it down* 3:13 *R.I.P. Bandicam Logo* 3:26 *Well, no time like the present.* 4:19 *No you aren’t*
Bugbo is by far my favorite character in fiction, he has such amazing quotes "No. I won't do that" "Don't like it. I want it gone. Joe, cut it down" "No you aren't"
THANK YOU omg. Digital horror hits that perfect nostalgia for me as someone born in 1998 who started using the internet pretty early, I'm so happy to see someone highlight more projects, especially little known ones. Truly a great breakdown, too. Pumped to see more, from you and the genre.
Hell im from 2006 and this genre still terrifies me. I see why analog horror performed so well now. Seeing how I grew up (yes I grew up on this style-ish) being warped like this is… Yeesh. Doesn’t help that my intro was Lacey’s Diner tho :P Nostalgia is terrifying after all it seems.
I am beyond excited that people are talking about this. Horror doesn't affect me as much, but *FLASH* games type of horror terrifies me to my core. There's something about it's crudeness that deeply unsettles me....
Lacey Games is fantastic, it's got the best elements of analogue horror (mostly uncanny valley, leaving stuff to the imagination) turned digital 2010s nightmares. I love it
im not suprised that no one has done an arg based off of the death of adobe flash in 2020 something like "someone going back to play some flash games for nostalgia's sake, And finding the game completely empty besides the player character. No enemies No GUI (besides the health bar) Not even a single collectible just an empty, untouched wasteland with nothing but the sound of the music faintly echoing through the speakers, the player characters footsteps, and the occasional deep groan that leaves as fast as it shows up..." Kind-of like sm64 classified, but the player character is sentient
I honestly thought I was the only person that really cared much about Poochee and Pansy back in the day, it was a shock to see them in the thumbnail, I was a teen back then and was interested but not smart enough for the arg
From what I understand the hunt for the gangadiddle arg, a majority of it took place in real life, like every clue solved required someone to go to the location. I'm not entirely sure though, the arg is really hard to research
One thing that I noticed in the Bugbo videos is the theme of repetivity; - In the first episode, The Stone Merchant has a eldritch horror-esque mental breakdown after Gradient Joe decides to strike a deal with him - the exact same thing the merchant wanted to do with Bugbo. - In the second episode, Gradient Joe trips on a circus ball, which makes him go back on his promise of making circuses legal again, which is - again - the same thing the old mayor did when he was elected. IDK If I'm actually up to something, or if I'm just bugging We'll just have to see in the next episodes.
I'd also like to talk about how the "Lacey's [Blank]" series talks about how childhood flash games make everything seem easy (for example: running a restaurant or being a model), unlike how it's like in reality. Pretty good stuff, I tell ya h'what!
Also worth noting the creator of the Lacey game videos has another series/ARG called "Imigrantes Road" which is also very interesting and worth checking out. It's still relatively new as well.
Also, I have a theory of why the second Lacey game starts out so cutesy and kid friendly to the disturbing mess it turns into. I think the cutesy part is what Lacey or the person that is represented by Lacey sees as part of her escapism from her abusive life. But when it starts to get are warped is when the real world starts to slip back in when Lacey can't get her business started like she wants it to. So, like it is stated she ends it all when her new life does go as planned.
You are fr so right when you say the screamer era is something you'll see in a gen z trauma dump- The chair video actually gave me my 1st panic attack ☠
I would LOVE to see a modern analysis on the whole poochee and pansy arg as a whole, especially since even though the main part is over, it's still going. And it has always and will be the greatest arg on this platform in my opinion. Speaking as someone who has and still is participating in it. lol.
My only issues is, I haven't been able to find a community around it. Every discord link i've found to it is dead, and it's just soooooooo much for any new person interested in the arg to catch up on. Which imo kill the experience for most, as the arg is pretty cryptic.
the poochie and pansy remade reminds me of liminal spaces in the feeling of something bad should happen but it just... doesnt, but the feeling doesnt go away. you peek around corners, but nothing is ever there. a feeling that is very underutilised in horror i feel like
Yt recommented this to me and damn what run this video was for that nostalgic rush. All those paint animations, dressup games, cooking ones. Off-putting character models. Perfection. Also I didn't expect Lacey be anxiety including but damn, I gotta go and give them some likes. The art reminds me specifically of old Vocaloid art. The muted colors and everything gives this very familiar vibe and the bad ending "Usless etc." card has that same, edgy feel on some art edits I have seen. "Why can't they wait 3 min of their fucking food" Sums up also my experience with restaurant flash games perfectly.
LACEYS DINER MENTIONED!!!!!! COMMON LACEY W I love Ghost Tundra's work, and her use of audio is incredible. I do wish that you would have discussed the actual contents of Lacey's DINER, there's a lot you glossed over. Especially the Lore. I have it all transcribed.
dear god the knock on the door in lacey’s wardrobe got me everytime bc the sound is on the side where my door is 😰😰😰 anyways Lacey’s flash games is probably my favorite horror I’ve seen yet because it’s a creative way to portray a story like this and the horror is very affective, not to mention how wonderful the art is
Thanks for the screamer warnings sobs I appreciate it so much 😭 Edit: YES PLEASE!!!! I want to see you discuss Poochee and Pansy!!! I love your videos sm
pooche and pansy are definitely childhood trauma for me, if i hadnt watched this and found out theres a difference between the original nd the sanitized version, i wouldve thought i had just imagined the original
It’s kinda funny you mention the idea of a sequel Poochie & Pansie ARG. I remember implications of a continuation or maybe hints at it being for a sequel.(You’re likely already aware of it given the mention of the video) I like the analogue horror but there’s potential for digital horror, I grew up on flash stuff(a little on VHS tapes too but that’s besides the point) so it’d be interesting to see more of it
poochie and pansy fucked me up as a kid, man. i remember it being a jumpscare fest, but something about it feels almost ahead of its time. though that doesn't mean the screamers aren't kind of goofy haha
It was super ahead of it's time tbh, it was like right on the cusp of those early screamer videos, and creepy pastas. For It to go on to a full irl arg is pretty crazy
ive had a soft spot for poochee and pansy for a long time - iirc the original arg got messed up somehow and the unique style of it always stuck with me. im happy to see it mentioned, and revived!!
I wish there was a reliable way to find information on the first arg. I know it involved people going to real life locations to unlock pieces to solve the arg as a whole. But like damn... I can't find enough to piece what was happening together.
That's the hope is I can get more eyes on cool project I feel deserve way more attention. Also I think that's just gonna be a running gag now, the chezzster censor is just too good.
I recently mustered up the courage to admit to my mom im obsessed with bugbo, i linked her the 1st episode and she said she'll check it out when she gets the chance, hope she likes it!
Props to anyone who made or makes flash games foreal or for digital horror cuz learning AS3, Adobe’s own weird version of JavaScript for Flash that u code in weird spots was a pain to learn along w the timeline stuff. So kudos. Learning all that deal is some serious commitment for making a horror series
I noticed that the photo of the outside of Lacey's restaurant is a road called Crispin Street in London. I instantly recognised it because it's next to a really nice food market - took me out of an otherwise very unnerving piece of horror!
"You must pay a hefty fee of 150 shells!" "No." "Excuse me..?" " *_im not doing that._* " "It's a.. big tree I think.." "I don't like it." " *_i want it gone,_* " " *_J O E C U T I T D O W N_* "
