A short video about character painting process, it took me about 3 hours to paint a first one and about 6 hours more to finish 4 others. If you want to see my others arts visit www.creativity.pl
i think this was the THE video that really triggered my desire to be a concept artist and 8 years later i can now appreciate this video SOOO much more. id say my art is pretty good now and at a professional level (at least my characters are lets not discuss my landscapes) but i come back to these and still feel like that clueless boy. watching this not only lets me see how far ive come but most importantly thats theres still so much to learn. unbelievably exciting
If line dependency is an issue for you, I recommend watching some videos from Istebrak. she's really good at showing how to draw without the need for linework.
Cool Level ! I hope one day I will be half way ! You are painting the object, shape and interaction with light, the texture and material specifications all in once and without loosing proportion. OK Maybe if you put the knight in a greeny environment and add to all of this that metal reflection with the sky and green landscapes !
Layer discipline is important but it seemed so seamless and that no layers were used...Going from that to the others was a fantastic representation of how concept art should look but the conversion must have been really difficult without layers.
How do you get all that information from just a silhouette? Does a lot of forethought go into something like this before hand? Do you do thumbnails, and them a design like this, or is this just winging it?
+Fellen If the project is high advence I usualy make some sketches and thumbnails> But in case of this one it was a basic idea and spontaneous work. Most of design decisions I make while already painting. Sorry for my english and I hope that I understood you clearly
@@michasztuka8256 Honestly, that's awesome. You're speed painting and how you used color contrasts actually helped get exponentially better than i was 3 days ago. I have better layer management, and more confidence to try something kinda crazy.
swojego czasu zrobiłem nie jedno studium różnych faktur materiałowych na podstawie fizycznych przedmiotów i fotografii. to jechałem już z głowy. ale studium wszystkim szczerze polecam, to absolutna podstawa
Concept art is about drawing the characters and buildings, so later on for example the 3D artists can work according to them. It can be both sketchy and fully drawn as this piece. Look up concept art in Google, and you'll see. Fast and understandable idea is given mostly by moodboard, and the sketches, which helps the staff pick out a design they like the most, and then the artists can make more detailed drawings about those sketches. And the other thing is that not only one person works on a game. Therefore 3 hours for one art is not an oh-so-huge amount of time. :) btw what you meant is probably the basic sketches where they just draw mutiple designs according to the descriptions. That usually takes only minutes, but this is probably a final concept art, not one that they make at the beggining. ;)
