The reason why you would still be on the same save data is because the game cartridge only holds the game data, save files save on to the switch or the micro sd card (well that’s if you have one inserted) because the game is ready to play whilst digital you will have to wait
Thank you so much! I completed celeste a few years ago, but bought the physical copy out of love and respect for the original game. I was worried it might erase my progress, so thank you for the demonstration!
I’ve preordered Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on my PS5 because I wanted the deluxe edition suits for Pete and Miles but the standard edition doesn’t have them so I looked at this video and thank god this solved my problem, now I can get my physical copy edition so I don’t have to worry about it being a different game, it’ll have the same data but it’ll be disc 👍👍👍👍👍
Important note here is that the digital version automatically came with the updates that were released to the point of buying it. So when you pop in the cartridge you will have the updates installed already. If however you deleted your application, after having played the digital version, then put the cartridge in it will ask you to download an update WITHOUT an option to skip the download promt thus being unable to play the game strictly from the cartridge
I finally gave in tonight and bought a game digitally that I have physically. Partly because today I bought two new games physically and had to switch carts out too many times 🤣. Also, my son wants to try Animal Crossing now that my daughter has been playing with me (I got her her own copy recently). Now all of us can play at the same time.
Theirs actually some hidden benifits to physical. Me and my sister had the first switches. Servers went down. All the digital versions had key locks on them. They would not play because they could not do daily connection to server. All the physicals could still be played. Because the physicals act like the key
Thank you so much for this video! I had downloaded the Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered game because at the time it had just came out with no idea at the time if it would ever get a physical release. It will in September of this year apparently so now I know I don't have to remove my paid for digital copy to play the physical copy.
I had a digital copy but then switched to a physical one, how do I remove just the digital version, because the digital version takes up more space and I don’t need it. Also I don’t want to erase any save data
@@StrongBull417 I did actually, what happened was I put the physical copy in and at first the digital copy still takes priority when it comes to storage space, but to fix this you want to hover over the game icon on the Home Screen, press + and then scroll down to “Manage software” and then click “delete software” this does NOT delete the save data it just removes it from the home menu. After it’s done you might have to reinsert the game cartridge to make it appear on the Home Screen again, and you might also have to update the game again. But yeah from there if you go to your save data settings it should prioritize the cartridge meaning it won’t take up as much storage space. It’s actually pretty easy, if you decide you want to use the digital copy again then I think you just redownload it from the eshop since you’ve already purchased it. Anyway hoped this helped, surprised nobody has a guide for it.
Just the video I was after. I have many digital games and have 22 physical games that are different. However I want to slowly get physical versions of digital games I have for future proofing sake. If at a point in the future the online services are killed off, then I have physical copies. I had my fingers burnt in the past when certain online services were discontinued and also when certain games/apps were removed from the store for other devices. I have to avoid physical cartridges like Boarderlands 3, for reasons many will probably know.
And what about the DLCs? I suppose you can access it whether it's digital or physical? I want to buy a digital version of Mario Kart 8 since I often play that game and it's getting annoying to switch the cartridge...
As someone who has a physical copy only of Super Smash Bros Ultimate with purchased DLC I can testify that you will be able to access DLC regardless of the format you purchased the game in.
i wonder though, i lost my smash bros PHYSICAL copy and i want to buy a digital copy so i can play it. will it still keep my save data i had on the physical copy or will it start me from the beginning?
Someone help me.. i have blasphemous, onepiecewarrior4 and undernight in birth clr digital & physical game but why when i insert the cartrige it will appear a new game icon. It is a new update or bug? because in my other physical/digital games don't do that.
I got it physically though as my first choice, but after doing everything in Metroid Dread I want it physically now since it's my favorite game and I want to own my Metroid games
well me If I removed the digital copy after I got the physical copy so it can carrying the save data & digital copy always take a lot of space on Nintendo Switch
You'd think the game would have a performance boost if you have both copies as a reward of sorts, but it's just Nintendo being Nintendo. Wasted potential on their part.
Only potential performance improvement would be load times, but that would require some complex loading mechanisms similar to RAID 1, which I doubt they care enough about to try to implement
