This lecture by Swati Srivastava, Associate Professor of Political Science at Purdue University, took place at BU's Pardee School of Global Studies on Thursday, November 30, 2023.
Srivastava broadly researches private actors in global governance. Her book, Hybrid Sovereignty in World Politics (Cambridge Studies in International Relations, 2022), explores how sovereign power is expressed through nonstate actors such as security contractors, business associations, and NGOs. Her current project explores the global politics of Big Tech. She also theorizes relational approaches like constructivism and new kinds of responsibility.
In 2023-24, she is Visiting Scholar at Harvard University’s Institute for Rebooting Social Media in the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society.
The event was moderated by Kaija Schilde, Jean Monnet Chair in European Security and Defense,.Associate Professor of International Relations and Director of the Center for the Study of Europe and took place as part of Prof. Schilde's Stronger Europe in the World lecture series. The aim of the series, supported by the European Union**, is to prompt critical reflection by a larger public on human and regional security informed by cross-national experiences and a variety of disciplinary lenses as well as to introduce or emphasize EU perspectives into ongoing debates around security integration and global challenges.
