This guest lecture by Paolo Graziano, Professor of Political Science at the University of Padua, took place on Tuesday, April 25, 2023. Graziano explains the emergence “neopopulism,” a phenomenon he describes as distinct from historical “populism,” and the challenges it poses to liberal democratic governments. The event was hosted by Sofia Perez, Associate Professor of Political Science and a member of the Center's Executive Committee, in conjunction with her Democracy class.
Paolo Graziano is also a Research Associate at the European Social Observatory, Brussels, and a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Surrey. He has been an associated researcher at Sciences Po, Paris (October 2019 - September 2022). He teaches Political Science, Political Communication and Public Management and Multilevel Governance. He has published five authored volumes and several edited volumes and journal special issues. His work on Europeanization, comparative welfare state policies, populism and political consumerism has appeared widely.
