Dear Sir, Planck's length is the smallest measured distance no? I think it is the inability of humans to measure below that. If it is a length, there will be two points x and y on both sides of the segment. But by Archimedean property, between any two real numbers, there is a real number. So we can measure the half of Planck's length. Am I right? May be my ignorance. Could you please explain?
That is the difference between Mathematics and Physics. In a physical system, when you reduce the distance, properties start changing. You can reduce to molecular level and then divide, you will reach atomic and sub atomic level. The moment you reach sub atomic level, then dynamics are completely different. As per quantum mechanics, Planck length or 'quantum of length' is the smallest measurement of length with any meaning. And roughly equal to 1.6 x 10 -35 m or about 10 -20 times the size of a proton. No further division possible according to current science. Treat Mathematics as a tool for modelling. A proper mathematical model has to be devised for a real problem to solve. The domain of the problem may be physics or engineering or economics. In modelling, anything is possible. You can represent "nothingness" or "emptiness" by 0!! That means, you are representing something that doesn't exist!!! Another example to quote is speed. Nothing can beyond the speed of light. But speed of light is a number. There are numbers greater than that. You can always add 1 to the speed of light. But, can anything go beyond the speed of light? Physics finds the rules of the Nature.
