Dilip Kumar had an ego clash with Guru Dutt over Pyaasa - an iconic Guru Dutt movie. When Dilip Kumar didn't do the film, Guru Dutt stepped in to play the lead role. Many years later, Dilip Kumar in an interview said that he wasn't keen to do Pyaasa since the role was very similar to his famous role of Devdas and as an actor he didn't find anything new to offer to Guru Dutt's Pyaasa. In the original ending of Pyaasa, Guru Dutt wanted to show that Vijay is left all alone, but on the distributors' insistence the ending was changed. The film was originally titled Pyaas (thirst), but Guru Dutt later changed it to Pyaasa to better describe the film. Apart from Guru Dutt, Pyaasa also had Waheeda Rehman and Johnny Walker playing important roles in the movie.
