It's because his beautiful voice always contains the emotion of what he is singing. The 2019 St. Petersburg vocalise and the actual full version with lyrics are equally impressive. Vocalise, pronounced voh-kuh-leez is French [from vocaliser, to vocalize, from vocal, vocal, from Old French]. Vocalise is a common musical form used in classical music to challenge singers to exercise their vocal capabilities and dates back to the mid-18th century. It gave rise to related music traditions in the 19th century and would later lead to the development of a vocal style used in jazz, known as scat singing. The words Dimash spoke in a growl or vocal fry at the very beginning and the end were "Ascolta la voce", which means "listen to the voice" in Italian. He is asking us to just listen and feel the music without the distraction of lyrics or meaning. By the way, just before the end of the song, the camera showed his mom in the audience (front row). She is a famous Kazakh operatic soprano.

There is another video of this song with Dimash singing the words and being accompanied by Igor. Igor, and I believe Lara Fabian, wrote this song for Dimash. Igor had been in semi-retirement until he heard Dimash sing Sinful Passion. After that concert, Igor approached Dimash and his father to ask if they would allow him to write music for Dimash. Songs like this, with vocals, Your Love, Stranger, and The Love Of Tired Swans. The lady they showed in the black & silver is Dimashs' mother.

He's begun using that deep, vocal fry as a signature to many performances: "Ascolte ls voce" = listen to the voice. And when Dimash is on stage, that's exactly what we should do.

Vocalize (pronounced vocal-eez) is vocalisations without words. The deep growl at the beginning is in Italian ( ascoltare la voce) and means “listen to the voice”. He has used this growl a few times and usually is a portent of good things to come vocally from Dimash. Lara Fabian has also performed this Vocalize with her own version. She wrote lyrics for Dimash and he has performed it as Know. Cheers from Canada!

How he sits cross-legged on the edge of the stage singing like this is incredible! He does another version of this song with full lyrics but his vocalisation is just stunning. I liken this to the old jazz scat, but a more modern version of that style. Even without the lyrics, he still manages to put so much emotion into it 😊🙏

Over the years that song evolved to it's vocalise no lyrics style. BTW, "ascolta la voce" means listen to the voice. Dimash normally likes to start his vocalise pieces by saying that!
